Another early start this morning. We checked out of the hotel at 6am and our transfer, organised by the hotel, arrived shortly afterwards to take us to Kuala Lumpur International Airport. (KLIA)
The journey to the airport took about an hour. We think we got a good deal with the transfer as it only cost us the equivalent of about £15.00.
When we checked in at the airport, we were pleased when they advised that they could check in our bags all the way to Heathrow. We had hoped this would happen, so had packed our hand luggage accordingly. Most airlines allow this if your connecting flight is within the next 24 hours.
Once we passed through security we checked our boarding cards, and were surprised to find that they had categorised our hop through Dubai as a layover. This meant they have automatically given us a meal voucher that we can use within Dubai International Airport.
Knowing how cheap everything is in Malaysia, we thought we would investigate a lounge whilst at the airport. We enquired at the Emirates lounge, but were informed that we did not have enough points for entry to theirs and cannot
even purchase entry. Instead we went to the general lounge. 276 ringgits (£42) got us in. This included a glass of wine each, which Theresa really enjoyed. Also included was a 15 minute massage each, but we did not take these. There was a vast array of hot and cold breakfast foods on offer plus hot drinks. There was also a fridge full of a large variety of soft drinks and fruit etc.
The flight boarded in the normal Emirates smoothness, and in no time we were in the air.
During the flight we got talking to two of the female flight attendants. They were from the north of England. When they heard about our move to Tenerife, they were asking lots of questions, as they had recently made the move to Dubai with their work. We explained to them that one of the things we would strongly recommend that they do is to use the book of Entertainer vouchers. We decided that we had 100´s left for Dubai that we were not going to use, so we gave them to these two girls. We would rather they were with someone who could use them. Maybe this will
encourage them to buy the book for next year.
The girls came back to us a while later with a large bag full of goodies, including bottles of wine, chocolate bars and a whole multitude of other luxury items. All of these were very much appreciated.
On arrival at Dubai, we were out of the airport within about 30 minutes of landing as we did not need to collect our luggage. The flight time was around just six hours.
We are staying tonight at the Holiday Inn Express which is right next to the airport. They have a courtesy shuttle from the terminal. When we got to the bus stop there was already a transfer bus there. One hour from landing, and we were in our hotel room.
After a short rest, we took the local metro train to Al Rigga, near to where we stayed the first time we were in Dubai. We had kept back a few of the vouchers for restaurants that are in this area with the hope that we could use one final voucher.
This was not to be. As we walked down the road, we spotted a Denny´s that had only recently opened. Denny´s was our favourite restaurant in USA, so we could not wait to see if they would be the same here in UAE. We were not to be disappointed. The menu looked nearly the same as the one in USA and the food was up to the normal Denny´s high standards.
On the way back to the hotel, we cashed in the balance on our metro cards, as we would not be using them again for a while. Already, we are planning a much longer visit to Dubai for 2016.
