Day 28 – 20/3/2015 Went to Kennington this morning. Deb did some retail therapy while I fished the reservoir. Had to fish into a fierce head wind (you are only allowed to fish from 2 fishing platforms). Struggled to get any distance into the wind & hence no fish. Went later to Crusoe Reservoir, also a few minutes from the caravan park. Managed 31 Redfin, keeping 4 & returning 27. These were fantastic on the BBQ. The flesh fell apart as it was so fresh. Day 29 – 21/3/2015 Fished Crusoe Reservoir again while Deb did some retail therapy. Managed 27 Redfin, keeping 8 & returning 19. Had 4 on the BBQ again, keeping the other 4 for the cat for tomorrow. Sad to finish our last day, but also looking forward to getting home. Day ... read more

Day 26 – 18/3/2015 Went for a short drive to Kennington. Small reservoir with a beautiful walking track all the way around & opposite a shopping centre. Tried fishing for a short while with no touches. Water was dead still & not the greatest conditions for fishing. Hopefully will get another chance for a few casts, weather permitting. Spend the bulk of the rest of the day at Bendigo Hospital, having treatment on a growth on the bottom of my foot. Got some wonderful painkillers so hopefully things will improve quickly. Went for an evening walk down the road; with those brilliant painkillers I never felt a thing & was able to go quite a distance. Had noisy people on one side of us in the caravan park, so not the greatest night for sleeping. Day ... read more

Day 25 – 17/3/2015 Fuel top up at Echuca: 263.0km 34.54L $1.29.9/L Avg 13.1L/100km Departed Echuca at 9.30am. Arrived Bendigo at 10.55am. Spent nearly 2 1/2 hours driving from caravan park to caravan park, from one end of Bendigo to the other finding that almost all the parks were booked out due to a bowls tournament (will have to keep my eyes out for erratically driven cars with bowls hats in the back)! There ended up being 3 parks only with any vacancies. We ended up staying at the Central City Caravan Park. Sites are a bit tight, but it is quite neat & at least it is closer to facilities (under 5km from a nice trout lake, so might manage to get a bit of fishing in) than the others were (10 & 16km out ... read more

Day 24 – 16/03/2015 Went to Bandicoot Brewery down on the Midland Highway in Echuca South. Only a small brewery just kicking off, but already having their beer sold in pubs in Echuca & Bendigo. Their bottled beer (in aluminium stubbies) are soon to be available in Melbourne. Drinking from a glass straight from the vat tap, I could not resist the Barbed Wire Blonde, available in 330ml stubbies at 5.4% alcohol volume, investing in some to take home. That is of course if they don’t disappear beforehand! Then it was off to the Echuca Workers & Services Club for their Monday lunch/dinner special: T-bone steak with either chips & salad or veggies, also including a choice of sauces & a drink for a measly $11. Makes you wonder how they can make any money on ... read more

Day 23 – 15/3/2015 Hooray! Violin lady left today! Peace & tranquillity is back! Went to the Rich River Golf Club, just across the border into NSW a few kilometres out of Moama. A very nice place with good priced food & drinks. Returned to the Holden Museum just around the corner from the caravan park. Not over large like some museums, but the disappointing thing for me was the lack of Commodore vehicles. I had expected to see the entire range of Holden vehicles, but this was an obvious huge hole in the lineage of cars put out by Holden. Afterwards we went for a walk down the main street, visiting the chocolate shop. Deb tried the Chocolate Liqueur while I sampled the chocolates. Deb purchased a champagne truffle while I had a solid chocolate ... read more

Day 21 – 13/3/2015 Departed Swan Hill at 9.30am, arrived Echuca at 12.00noon. Staying at the Echuca Caravan Park (Top Tourist Park) just 300m from the wharf at the Port of Echuca. The main streets run around this, so everything is within easy strolling distance. Went into the swimming pool which is heated, so no worrying about nippy body parts! Stayed in there until the ducks came in for a swim, flying in like on a strafing mission before crash landing into the water. Returned to the caravan & had some “refreshments”, followed by a long walk of around about 2 hours. It was pretty quiet for the most part except for one hotel where it all seemed to be happening & looked like the local “meat market”! Our walk took us past all the paddle ... read more

Day 19 – 11/3/2015 Drove across the border into NSW to get a closer look at Murray Downs homestead. A very large rural property with a house on it that looks like Southfork out of the TV show Dallas. The property adjoins the world class Murray Downs Golf Club & Murray Downs Resort complexes. Spent the rest of the morning taking a casual stroll along the shopping precinct in Swan Hill. In the afternoon we again hopped in the swimming pool & lounged around on the recliners before returning to the pool again, holding conversations with several couples. Another evening BBQ (why cook inside when you can cook outside?) before chasing mosquitoes in the caravan that were obviously immune to the half a tin of insect spray I smothered them with. Two hands were more effective, ... read more

Day 17 – 9/3/2015 Top up fuel in Mildura: 298.5km 32.32L $1.23.5/L Avg 10.8L/100km. Left Mildura at 9.40am. Arrived Swan Hill at 12.50pm. Got a lovely prime site right next to the toilets with the swimming pool just opposite. Set the annexe up& then hopped into the pool which was very therapeutic. The back of the caravan park has the Marraboor River (100m from the Murray River) running along it. Very calm & picturesque with a myriad of bird life. Day 18 – 10/3/2015 Went 15km up the road to Lake Boga, which is quite a massive lake for water sports of all types. It also has a walking track around it which is well populated by the locals. Spent the rest of the morning looking around Swan Hill, which is a great deal larger than ... read more

Day 15 – 7/3/2015 Rest day. Just looked around the shopping centres in Mildura. Day 16 – 8/3/2015 Went to Gol Gol just over the border into NSW where there were spectacular views of the Murray River. A short drive down the road was the brilliant Trentham Estate on the scenic banks of the Murray River for some wine tasting, a few bottles for later & more photos. We returned to Mildura to the Gateway Tavern Bistro for lunch. Choice of 2 soups, minestrone & mulligatawny, then choice of 3 roasts with a vegetable & salad selection, finally followed by a chocolate mousse, all for $15. No wonder the place was packed out. Returning back to the van to rest up a little before packing the van before heading to Swan Hill tomorrow.... read more

Day 12 – 4/3/2015 Went fishing off the caravan park jetty this morning, landing 2 Trumpeters & 1 Garfish. The Garfish went straight onto the BBQ for lunch. You don’t get any fresher than that! Went back to the jetty later in the afternoon & came back with 1 Silver Trevally which went straight onto the BBQ again for an early dinner. Then it was time to pack up ready to leave for Mildura in the morning. Fuel fill before leaving Pt Lincoln: 144.6km Avg 13.51L/100km Day 13 – 5/3/2015 Departed Pt Lincoln at 2.40am. Arrived at Mildura at 4.10pm. Ran into driving rain as we approached Cowell. The head winds after we left Pt Augusta were fierce, killing any decent fuel economy. The hills between Pt Augusta, Clare & Renmark also blew the fuel economy ... read more
