Day 10 (13/11/16) Woke up at 8.45AM. Caravan park very quiet. Rain absolutely teeming down incessantly, making it difficult to time dashes to the toilets! Rain has not stopped, so basically have written today off since not much is open on a Sunday, so rest up & watch tv it is! Day 11 (14/11/16) Up early for the long drive to Wangaratta. Quite a large town with lots of good facilities & shopping. Managed to pick up a few bargains courtesy of eagle-eyed Deb. Had lunch at the Wangaratta RSL before going to Gapsted Wines. Deb quaffed down a huge array of very generous samples before making some purchases for digestion at a later date! Day 12 (15/11/16) Up early again, but this time to tackle the long, narrow, windy road to Falls Creek. Compared to ... read more

Day 6 (9/11/16) Got up just before 9AM. After some busy days decided to have a rest day. More socialising with fellow caravanners & more fishing of the Livingstone River putting a relaxed, leisurely tone on the day. Another 10” brown trout caught became dinner. Day 7 (10/11/16) A fine, windy day so got the washing up to date before tomorrows trip to Mt Beauty. More socialising & a couple of leisurely walks before washing the car as it was coated in dust. Hooked up to the caravan ready for the morning & had an early night. Day 8 (11/11/16) Left Omeo at 9AM. The road up to Dinner Plain was windy & relatively steep early on before flattening out. The views of patchy snow capped peaks amazing as we drove across the plain on the ... read more

Day 3 (6/11/16) Up early to take Deb to her white water rafting experience. Temps below zero, hands & ears frozen before the sun started to thaw things out. While Deb was rafting, went & fished the Mitta Mitta River. Water running way too fast. Access to river limited & unable to cross it to fish the better areas due to depth & strong current. High winds also a huge challenge to enable casting with any accuracy. Saw fish, but none saw my net! Returned to pick Deb up at 2:45PM. Finally they returned at 3:50PM. Deb thoroughly enjoyed the white water rafting experience. The scenery was out of this world. And who should happen to fall in going through the rapids? Deb of course! There always has to be one! Rafting Australia were extremely professional ... read more

The Night Before (3/11/16) Start KM: 76748 Knowing that we will be too excited & have trouble sleeping, as usual we decided to leave the night before. Departed at 8:40PM. Took our time down the freeway just cruising along. Stopped for dinner in Moe at 10:25PM. Continued to cruise our way along before stopping for the night in the free caravan/RV stop in Sale. Day 1 (4/11/2016) Woke up to inconsiderate noisy people somewhere around 3:30AM, talking like they were yelling across the Grand Canyon, then banging their car doors & revving their engines. Not happy Jan!!! Next thing we heard the garbos around 7:35AM & opened the door to thick fog. Toodled off up the road for breakfast before leaving Sale at 8:35AM. Filled up with fuel at Bairnsdale (knowing it would be cheap!) @$1.15.5/L. ... read more

Day 8 (2/9/2016) Left Adelaide at 5:30AM. Had breakfast at Tintinara at 8:25AM. Had intended to stop at Tailem Bend but nothing was visible as the fog was so thick. Filled up with diesel at Horsham at 12:10 & had lunch at the bakery before pressing on. Arrived at Halls Gap at 1:45. Set up the annexe went for a 1.5km walk into the town. Nothing much had changed since we were last here in 2007. Walked back to the caravan park & got changed before heading to the Halls Gap Hotel for dinner. Returned back to the van & had a drink or six! Total kms for the day was 517. Day 9 (3/9/2016) Had a bit of a sleep in after last nights drinking session. Headed up into the hills to Lake Wartook to ... read more

Day 4 (29/8/2016) Went to Westfield Marion Shopping Centre which we have not seen for a few years. The place certainly has changed & major upgrades have taken place. Decided to have lunch while there & suggested to Deb King George Whiting & Prawns. Deb’s eyes lit up, so the answer was obvious as KGW is her favourite fish. Needless to say it was absolutely delicious! From there it was off to see Deb’s friend Mandy. We spent several hours there before having dinner at Imperial Palace at O’Halloran Hill. The food was sensational & from there we headed back to the van for a good nights sleep. Day 5 (30/8/2016) Deb headed off into the city for lunch with her friend since childhood, also named Deb. Bob stayed at the van for a day of ... read more

Day 1 (26/8/2016) Got up at 3:45am, departed home at 4:20am. Left early to avoid any potential traffic & get a good head start. Got near Ballarat to rain & heavy fog that reduced visibility to about 200m. Slowed down to suit the conditions until we passed out the other side of Ballarat where the fog vanished. It was like travelling through some sort of strange time warp on a distant planet. No wonder they say Ballarat is another world! Arrived at Ararat at 8:20 am, stopping for breakfast & to have a break to read the paper. Resumed travel, arriving at Horsham at 9:25am. Filled up with diesel @ $1.18.9, having travelled 344km @ 8.9L/100km. Fill up took 46.9L. Back on the road again, taking our time & monitoring the new Diesel Engine Scanner from ... read more

Day 3 (25/5/2016) Got up at 8:30am to go fishing. Again. And no fish. Again. Must have forgotten how to fish; perhaps I am getting dementia! So much for catching the meals instead of having to buy food. Returned back to the van for bacon & eggs lunch. With the cold & wet weather settling in we cooked dinner in the Camp Kitchen which boasts 2 fan forced ovens, 2 BBQ’s, 4 hotplates, 2 sinks, 2 fridge/freezers, TV & plenty of seating. Cooked up a couple of nice country Rump Steaks & some boiled potatoes along with some Mushroom & Garlic sauce and a few alcoholic beverages! Day 4 (26/5/2016) Up for an early breakfast & then off on the road for the short trip to Leongatha. Pouring with rain that had settled in for the ... read more

Day 1 (23/5/2016) Left home at 10:45am. Topped up with diesel to get a true indicator of fuel economy with the new performance chip installed. Wild & windy trip with some severe crosswinds. Arrived in Inverloch at 12:35 with a fuel economy of 9.8L/100KM. Had a lukewarm bite to eat at the bakery, picked up a few essentials from the shop & started the caravan set up at the RACV Resort. Blustery winds made putting up the annex a real challenge with Deb nearly being blown off of her “vertically challenged” stool. In between the huge wind gusts came bursts of rain that made it a stop/start affair. After finally getting the annexe up & pegged down, I drilled & siliconed the screws into the new side channels to give the annexe more hold. After the ... read more

Day 23 (6/11/2015) Last day in Cobram & it’s another wet one. A couple of lengthy downpours & the sore knee make it difficult to get out & about. Staying indoors & resting up seems to be the best thing to do. Day 24 (7/11/2015) Departed Cobram at 8AM & arrived in Cranbourne at 1PM. Had an extremely gusty head wind for the entire trip home which pushed the fuel economy up. Not much you can do about it except push on & get home. Traffic shocking as we came through Bulleen with cars bumper to bumper before getting on Eastlink the rest of the way. Glad to get home & see the doctor about my knee. Possible ligament strain is the prognosis, but need to monitor it for a week. If still sore I will ... read more
