Day 8 (2/9/2016) Left Adelaide at 5:30AM. Had breakfast at Tintinara at 8:25AM. Had intended to stop at Tailem Bend but nothing was visible as the fog was so thick.
Filled up with diesel at Horsham at 12:10 & had lunch at the bakery before pressing on. Arrived at Halls Gap at 1:45. Set up the annexe went for a 1.5km walk into the town. Nothing much had changed since we were last here in 2007. Walked back to the caravan park & got changed before heading to the Halls Gap Hotel for dinner. Returned back to the van & had a drink or six!
Total kms for the day was 517.
Day 9 (3/9/2016) Had a bit of a sleep in after last nights drinking session. Headed up into the hills to Lake Wartook to have a little bit of a fish. That did not last long with the rain coming down & a wind chill of about -5C.
Drove a few kms down the road to McKenzie Falls. As we arrived, the sun came out. Proceeded to descend 920M to the bottom where the view was just spectacular! Several photos &
some rest before we attempted the steep climb out. A few stops on the way up made it a bit easier, but the climb was still quite taxing.
Back at the car with jelly legs & a pounding chest, we drove to Reids Lookout. Last time we were here the landscape was charred from the 2006 fires that went through. Todays view was much prettier & breathtaking.
We then drove back down to the caravan park, put the camera on charge, got changed & drove down the road to Pomonal for a look around, then back to Red Rock Olives for a cuppa & light bite.
From there it was off to The Gap Estate Winery where Deb sampled some offerings before taking home some goodies.
Darting across to Lake Fyans to do a bit more fishing & the bloody heavens opened again. Someone up there does not want me catching any fish! Managed to get a few casts in between showers, but headed back to Halls Gap, picked up some marinated steak & returned to the van for dinner before passing out from exhaustion.
Day 10 (4/9/2016) Up early to get
the annexe down after a wet & windy night. Was surprised the van did not take off it was that bad. Our jockey wheel was sunk in the mud after all the rain & we had a bit of difficulty getting out.
Left Halls Gap at 10:15AM. Darted across to Great Western to Bests Winery where Deb got some extremely large wine tastings. The lady there was on cold medication & poured Deb several glasses of the same wines. I never noticed Deb complain, although she did start to get louder as the toll of the massive samples started kicking in!
After picking up some bottles, we headed across to Seppelts for yet more tasting & more purchases. By now someone was half off her face, not mentioning any names DEB!!!!
We arrived at Ararat at 12:20 for a light lunch before heading for home, stopping briefly in Beaufort before arriving home at 4:15PM.
Total kms for the day was 299.
Thoroughly enjoyed the trip & cannot wait for November when we go to the Victoria High Country.
