Day 22 (5/11/2015) Got out early & headed to Shepparton. Saw the Ardmona SPC clearance outlet which sells food CHEAP. The rain closed in pretty early making for a rather bleak day; darting from shop to shop in between the rain. Had lunch at the Shepparton RSL. $10 meals including Barramundi or Roast among several others. Headed back via Numurkah where it pelted down with visibility limited to less than 50 metres with windscreen wipers on the fastest setting. Returned to the caravan park at Cobram to find it flooded after they had 32MM of rain. About 2 hours after getting back the heavens opened again, flooding the caravan park with another 21MM & leaving many people unable to get out of their caravans. The knee was extremely painful today as I try to not use ... read more

Day 19 (2/11/2015) Stepped in a covered drain hole 2 days ago (covered by grass) twisting my knee & the pain has become more pronounced. Spent the afternoon at the hospital getting my right knee checked. Need to have an MRI when I get back home to see what the problem is. Doctor thinks the ligaments along the inside of the knee are damaged, but to what extent is unknown. Got given a prescription for Morphine tablets which are rather powerful. They alleviate the pain really fast but accentuate the effect when you drive or drink. Hence I am swapping painkillers depending on if we are staying in or going out. Day 20 (3/11/2015) The caravan park put on a free breakfast for all the patrons. We enjoyed bacon, eggs & sausages which were all tasty ... read more

Day 17 (31/10/2015) Proposterous weather with thunder, lightning & teeming rain, followed by heat & no sign of the storm. This alternates regularly throughout the day. Flies are stickier than chewing gum on your shoe; you need bloody good insect repellent here as well as a hat net or you end up eating flies! Visited Tocumwal just down the road for the local markets on a Saturday morning which was quite pleasant (once the sun came out) & lots of good produce on display. Went out to the Barooga Sports Club which is quite a nice facility. They also send a bus to pick you up & take you home so that you don’t have to drink drive! Day 18 (1/11/2015) Woken up at some ungodly hour by massive thunder & lightning which rocked the caravan. ... read more

Day 15 (29/10/2015) Went for a drive out to the huge Blowering Dam wall, taking the steep drive up to overlook the dam & spillway from the top. Wound our way back down, cruising along the Tumut River & admiring it’s pretty stretches & camping areas set aside for family access. Went for the short drive up to the Violet Farm, only to reach the gates with a closed sign. Unfortunately this was our last day in Tumut. Had we known how nice Tumut was, we would have stayed longer. But that leaves the door open for another visit in future. Day 16 (30/10/2015) Departed Tumut at 7:50AM & arrived Cobram at 12.25PM. The road from Tumut was winding & had several roadworks, but not as hilly as I suspected. Once we reached the main highway, ... read more

Day 13 (27/10/2015) Departed Jindabyne at 9.55AM & arrived Tumut at 1.30PM. The drive up into the Great Dividing Range & the Bogong Mountains was quite difficult with the caravan on. Narrow roads from the top of Lake Eucumbene until just before Talbingo made it hard going. Following this, the steep descent into Talbingo was ridiculous & extremely harsh on brakes. At under 40KMH and a drop of greater than 45 degrees, the smell from the caravan brakes was quite apparent. One thing is for certain, we will never travel on this road again. Arriving in Tumut was a breath of fresh air; pretty little town with 6 pubs, an RSL, Woolies & Coles all within easy walking distance & one of the nicest caravan parks we have ever seen. Large sites, quiet & peaceful, good ... read more

Day 11 (25/10/2015) Today was relaxation day; shopping for Deb & fishing for Bob. Just as well we are not relying on fish for food as the fish have been less than cooperative. Day 12 (26/10/2015) Last day in Jindabyne & today marks the halfway mark of the holiday. The wind today is quite horrendous; it feels like the caravan is going to take off despite everything tied down & double tied down. Went up to the Cookie Factory where the cookie displays would fit inside a broom closet. Thought they would have had a lot more on show. Returned to the caravan park to find the wind has eased. Decided to take the opportunity to give the car a bit of a clean given that it was covered in brown dirt. Not exactly pristine clean ... read more

Day 8 (22/10/2015) Today was going to be the worst day of the trip weather wise; 11C & rain all day. Decided to head to Cooma for a leisurely drive. Deb managed to pick up some bargains in the shops (as always). Went there to see the Snowy Hydro Display Centre & completely forgot about it. Dementia must be settling in methinks. Had a chat to Mick the guru at the Alpine Angler about all things fishing, then headed off the beaten track (eat your hearts out Leyland Brothers) to a Winery/Brewery/Distillery along a wet boggy dirt road which the Nissan ate for breakfast. Had a few tastings & bought some of the local product for future consumption. Back onto the wet boggy dirt road to make the Nissan completely filthy as it should be. Mud ... read more

Day 4 Part 2 (18/10/2015) After dinner went to the Telstra Tower for some awesome views of Canberra. Unfortunately Parliament House was not lit up, so was hard to find it. Managed to get one excellent photo of the bridge across Lake Burley Griffin. Day 5 (19/10/2015) Today we went to the National Zoo & Aquarium in Canberra. This zoo is magnificently set out with easy to follow trails. While they do not keep every animal, the zoo is undergoing further expansion. Highlights for me were the Meerkats; cheeky as ever & hamming it up for photos. Also the Fairy Penguins who just happened to want to indulge in sexual romps when I started taking photos! We also spoke with a woman visiting from Paris who owns a Bed & Breakfast accommodation charging 75 Euros a ... read more

Day 1 (15/10/2015) Left Cranbourne at 8.05PM to get a start & shorten the following day’s drive. Arrived Seymour at 10.35PM & camped near a 24hour service station. Day 2 (16/10/2015) Departed Seymour at 3.45AM. Extremely busy road with hundreds of semi trailers, but being a 2 lane highway in each direction made it an easy drive. Arrived Wangaratta at 5.10AM for breakfast. Caffeine need was high & it gave the necessary kick to get the body into second gear. Departed Wangaratta at 5.50AM. Stopped in Albury to get petrol: Unleaded $129.7/L 48.74L 379.5km 12.7L/100kms Arrived Gundagai at 9.35AM. Took some photos of the dog on the Tuckerbox & had a brief walk to stretch the legs. Departed Gundagai at 10.05AM. Had lunch 30km from Canberra under a nice shady tree just to freshen up before ... read more

This trip is sneaking up fast. Just a few weeks to go & we already have the hiking boots packed ready to tackle Mt Kosciusko. The caravan got a clean today & had her tyres pumped up. The newly modified annexe is a much neater fit & the additional centre rafter pole should help alleviate the roof flapping of the last trip. We are not quite sure what to expect weather wise, given the higher altitudes of our locations we will be staying at, so will pack a mixed bag. Have also got the lightweight hiking pants & thermals (just in case). Do not want to get our little areas frostbitten! New thermal beanies have been in the car for weeks. Another addition this time will be the HEMA HN7 navigation system, which will come in ... read more
