Spent the last few days based in the Old Town in Phuket. It's an absolutely charming area, with neo-colonial homes and buildings lining the streets and cute little Chinese shopfronts in between the roti stalls and restaurants. There seems to be an gallery or cute cafe every few steps, with many interesting things to look at and wish we could take home. Corb's fave was a pic of a pug though, good to see that 9 months on the road hasn't changed him! The food round here is fantastic (had to get a mention) - and we've gorged ourselves at the various markets, with last night's satay and pineapple noodles being a highlight. We've made a friend in one of the sweet vendors at the day market, though Corb almost did himself in on a chocolatey ... read more

Today we did a day trip to the famous Phi Phi Islands, one and a half hours off the coast of Phuket. It was a nice day, but Phi Phi Don is so incredibly overtouristed and busy that I am glad we are staying in Phuket - makes for a more relaxing time. Phi Phi Leh itself was beautiful - the limestone cliffs thrust clear out of the water, surrounded by aquamarine waters of varying shades. Though I must admit I thought Maya Bay (where they filmed 'The Beach') would be more stunning. Corb had the great idea that it would look best from a helicopter, though a bit out of our means I think. Did some snorkeling and saw a whole lotta fish - though other people were feeding them so it's not surprising. Unforunately ... read more

Having decided not to do the second jungle walk we had planned on, we had a day of rest and reading, finishing off the last of the chocolate Corb had got me for my birthday (a room with a fridge, what luck!). On a previous night we had discovered a super tasty restaurant, which by luck, happened to be the cheapest in town. Heading back there night after night we managed to work our way through all of her curries and a few of the other dishes on offer as well. Mmmmm delicous! Feeling safe, the leeches firmly stuck in the jungle and not at our guesthouse we were wandering along to bed when Corb noticed something crawling across the path in front of us. Looking up us from the shadows was a scorpion, claws out ... read more

Trading the sun and the sea for the jungle clad interior, we set off for Khao Sok National Park by way of Surat Thani. With luck on our side we found ourselves a delightful little bunglow right on the rivers' edge (the River Sok too!) with a hammock-ed balcony overhanging the water. As we awoke we could hear the river rushing past, the birds calling in the dawn, and smell the sweet, brightly coloured flowers that were right outside our windows. After a lunch in the guesthouse restaurant which overlooked the limestone mountains that the area is famous for (they call it the Guilin of Thailand, it reminded me of the drive out to Ha Long Bay), we hurried back to our room as thunder rolled overhead. The whole sky was lit up like a million ... read more

Rockin' on up to Ko Tao early one morning we were feeling abit dazed after the overnight bus/boat trip and were keen for a nap. Wandering our way along the beach we saw a nice little bungalow, only a few steps from the water. Trying to find the little old lady who it belonged to was a wee bit of a challenge but once that was accomplished it was all plain sailing. For the next few days we had our very own slice of paradise on Ko Tao. Each morning we would awake to the sounds of the surf, take a morning dip before breakfast and then spend our days lazing in the shade, reading and napping, taking the odd dip when the urge took us. The beach itself was shining white sand, the water clear, ... read more

So I thought the plane would feel like more of a big deal, after having avoided them for the past 8.5 months. But it was just like any other journey. Though I would recommended Qatar Airlines as the movie selection was great, the food plentiful and they even gave us earplugs, socks and an eye mask - sweet. Seeing the sunset as we flew over the Gulf was pretty sad, kinda felt like the trip was ending in a way. I guess we dreamed a dream, then lived it, and although it was awesome, it has to come to and end and that will be hard to let go of. 8.5 months of travel over in one flight, crazy. Arriving in Bangkok was like deja vu. Everything looked the same and even smelt the same. We ... read more

We woke up to an awful last day in London: low grey skys, a whipping wind, and sideways showers that left puddles everywhere. I guess it was a fitting way to say a sad goodbye, as tomorrow we say goodbye not only to London, but to our overland adventure (sniff, sniff). Despite the rain, I was keen to get one last look at London and so set off to Dali Universe - a collection of paintings, drawings and sculptures by the famous Spaniard. It was a quite sizeable collection and pretty cool to see as most of it was new to me. The highlight by far was the collection of sculptures which were dotted around. I really can't describe Dali in words, but I am sure you've all seen his stuff and so understand; it was ... read more

Today was another day of catching up with friends. We met Sheree, Rose and Roland, all of Galbraiths fame at Victoria Station and set off for the day. Our stomachs took us first to Soho where we had decidedly dodgy Chinese, made all the more funny by the fact the guy there couldn't speak English (silly us for thinking that once we made it to London we'd be able to order our meals without confusion!). Deciding we needed a bit of culture after that episode we headed across town, for a walk across the Millennium Bridge to the Tate Modern. At the moment there is an installation there which is a series of slides in different shapes and lengths from various parts of the gallery. We tried to get on to the high one that circled ... read more

Today our laziness actually worked in our favour. When I awoke the sky was low and grey and it was pissing down. Then it took ages for us to get ourselves organised, and by that time the sky and cleared and it was a nice, sunny day. Heading towards the Thames, we popped out of the underground right under the monument in rememberance of the Great Fire of London in 1666. Deciding that this clear sky could not be wasted we quickly climbed our way to the top. From there we had really magnificent views over the city, the river, and along to Tower Bridge. It was wicked. And we got certificates when we reached the bottom! From there we took a leisurely stroll along the riverbank, stopping to have our lunch in the sunshine. With ... read more

Today was a momentous day! After years of yearning and childlike dreaming I was reunited with a little Bear who had found himself lost and bothered on the platform at Paddington Station. I had wanted myself a little Paddington since I first saw him on TV when I was but a wee thing and waited all this time til I could collect him myself. When Sheryn came to London a few years ago she remembered my dream and brought me back a tiny weeny Paddington, so cute. But now I have the real thing and he will keep me all up to date with my hugs until I return home to Bonsai in December. Other things achieved today include an exploration of the British Museum which was fantastic, and lunch with Sam and Gkee in The ... read more
