Got up and made some breakfast on the camp stove. Then off the to the nice hot shower. The KOA also had a dishwashing station with instant hot water and everything needed. Awesome. Then decided first thing wanted to see the petraglyphs. This was way out in the booneys past the airport. Benefit to this no one else around at all. I misread the website that said easy 5 to 10 minute walk. On second look that is to the base of the cliffs LOL. But I really wanted to see them so I climbed with my trusty walking stick. It was a very difficult climb - lots of loose rock. But we made it and the petraglyphs were amazing and work all the effort. A big challenge for me! http://www.blm.gov/nm/st/en/prog/recreation/taos/la_cieneguilla.html#_=_ Next we went down the ... read more

After setting up camp we headed up northbound to find some dinner then go have a bit of fun. Didn't find anything along the way. Ended up at Buffalo Thunder Casino Resort. It's a huge property and had lot's of dinner choices. We decided to eat at Iguana Cafe. Nice but not overdone. Very good New Mexican food. They do not just send out every table the same chips / salsa / guacamole. They have a made to order bar - we got just salsa. The young man doing this had my husband taste test till just right. Very hot but very tasty. My husband David had chicken with mole sauce - he liked it but said a bit too much chocolate for him. I had pork tamales with red chile sauce - pork was super ... read more

We left out late on Labor Day about 7am. We took a bit different route west this time - 20 to Sweetwater then NW on 84 into New Mexico. This let me see a part of West Texas I haven't seen in a while & a part of New Mexico I haven't seen. Arrived at campground KOA about 6pm their time gained an hour. Beautiful and highly recommended campground. The hosts were very nice. Clean & newly remodeled bathhouse with instant hot water. We didn't check it out but they had a good size barn that was a game room over on the other side of the property. Two or three common areas. One up by the office with a grill and lots of patio furniture to hang out and talk. Very dog friendly camp. Campsite ... read more

Up very slowly today - feeling pretty rough! We had breakfast at The Orleans buffet - wow! I always love restaurants at any Boyd property … all this changed today. We went down about 10:30. They had already almost completely converted over to lunch. Boo. The food they had was just not good and some non-edible. The server was so rude and slow. I asked for a spoon and the server told me a couple of spots on the buffet I could find one!!! Okay breakfast done - we are going to take a bit easier today! First stop Mandalay Bay - we had vouchers for the Shark Reef Exhibit. It is a very very long walk back where the exhibit is. That being said it is a very lovely aquarium, small but lovely. It is ... read more

Up slowly but surely! Time to find some breakfast. We had vouchers for breakfast at Excalibur Roundtable Buffet. Very nice buffet and didn’t mind getting our own drinks. Uncle Buddy really like their made to order omelet station. We gambled a bit there. Uncle Buddy won again. Big Bus Day Tour - bought discounted tickets online. The tour is split in two parts The Strip and Downtown. Open top buses with a hop on / off option. We caught the bus at the Excalibur stop. Rode on the top catching the second half of the strip tour. The switching point for the routes is Circus Circus. We decided we needed to cool down a bit so we gambled here a bit - won some $$$. Then we did the downtown route - not as exciting at ... read more

So we are up relatively early about 8 am. Uncle Buddy was up earlier and ate breakfast at the hotel then visited with other guests. Hubby and I just had a snack at the gas station while filling up. Stopped at the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert NP - no cost as Uncle Buddy has a permanent NP card. We did the scenic drive which is not a loop you go in the east entry just a bit off 40 then out the west right at 40. Part of the old route 66 is still actually in the park. Painted Desert portion first - very scenic views and very pretty. My hubby got to try out our new camera. Then came the Petrified Forest - not what I was expecting at all - I mean I ... read more

Our last couple of days were much more slow heading into the end of the trip. Up and out of the hotel with some breakfast. Drove the last few hours of Wyoming then into Colorado. A stop at the Budweiser Brewery in Fort Collins, CO. http://www.budweiser.com/en/our-brand/brewery-tours.html They have the most beautiful breweries. Fort Collins is more modern but the grounds & stables are gorgeous. We moved on stuck in some horrible Denver traffic finally making if to the stop for the night Cripple Creek, CO https://www.visitcripplecreek.com/ Dave and I made a day trip here on a vacation in Colorado previously and just loved it.. It's a mining town turned gambling town. And they have wild donkeys roaming the town - we have yet to see them though. Check into t... read more

On the agenda for the day: checking out of Cody, Wy then on to Rawlins, Wy but first Lake Yellowstone and Old Faithful Geyser. Go down through the Grand Tetons picnic lunch and maybe boat ride. Check out was easy & no problems. Decided we would find somewhere different for breakfast. Found Our Place Cafe. Wow what a great family run place. Great food & coffee. The owner Jim and his family run the place. Headed for the last time in the east gate of Yellowstone. Got stuck in a huge buffalo jam then something happened. Two huge buffalo demonstrated it was mating season right in front of the car. We couldn't move so we just watched and hoped nothing went through the grill. It wasn't the full ... read more

Big full day today! Started out early with breakfast at the hotel again. Plan for the day was to head into the park straight to Norris Geyser Basin, then back track and check out the Canyon area. Picnic lunch somewhere. Stop at Fishing Bridge then out of the park again. Head back to Cody stopping at the Buffalo Bill Dam. Then time permitting a choice of things to do in Cody. 6pm reservations at Cody Cattle Company for dinner and song. Finally Cody Night Rodeo. Drove straight through to Artist Paint Pots & Norris Geyser Basin very cool to see bubbling mud and steam. Very stinky too from the sulfur. Next we checked out The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. Spectacular! Saw the Upper and lower falls. It was ... read more

Today would be our first day in Yellowstone. Of our group only my Mom had been when she was a little girl. The plan was to go in the east entrance then up the the east side of the bottom loop. Across the middle then Norris and up to Mammoth Springs. Lunch there. Then down to the Tower area with reservations to go on the Cowboy Cookout. From there back to hotel. A little of a slow start due to our late night. The hotel has an interesting set up for breakfast as far chain hotels go. They have a separate gift shop building and in the back room of this is where breakfast is served. Very large area, but the hotel is also very large. Good cooked ... read more
