Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris September 21st 2006

Geo: 48.8567, 2.35099Bonjour from Parie!! Turned out that Paris was every bit as fantastic as I hoped for. The time flew by, and i easily could spend a week there. There is so much to see and do. We arrived in the evening, for a coach tour around the streets of Paris, before heading off to the Eifel tour. Now despite all the antihype I always hear about the Eifel tower, it was still a truly remarkable monument, a real amazing engineering accomplishment. We went up to the second level, for fantastic sights over the city.. It even gets all shiney and sparkley every hour at night, when the lights come on.The next day was our full day to explore Paris. The hugest tragedy of all befell this tour though, as Tuesday, our only day here, ... read more

Europe » Switzerland » North-West » Lucerne September 17th 2006

Geo: 46.948, 7.44815Finally on to Switzerland, despite the bus breaking down again, and us having to get some crappy Italian try hard imitation coach. on the way out of italy we visited the leaning tower of pisa. this thing really is leaning... got some coool photos. the surrounding area and cathedreal is also impressive. anyway, from there we got through disgraceful traffic to come to switzerland. the night consisted mainly of drinks at a bar and then a club afterwards. also saw the renowned lion monument, which is dedicated to the virtue of swiss mercenaries. anyway, im in a net cafe above the swiss army knife shop, il grab one as a souvenir. today has been a lil depressing, as terrible rain and fog half ruined our cable car trip up to the scenic mountaintop, and ... read more

Europe » Italy » Tuscany » Florence September 17th 2006

Geo: 43.6003, 11.6254Our final stop in Italy was the scenic area of Florence. On the way, we visited a small medievil town called San Remo, renowned for its really old and well preserved architecture, and wines. there was another torture museum too... theyr like everywhere in europe. ill be a torture expert when i get back. then after that, on to Florence, Fiorentina. Muchly, a town that was nice to just walk around, explore and shop in, rather than for its actual historic sights. The quewes for the Academia museum, home of Michaelangelos David were too long, so i had to settle for a replica viewing. Only place i got into was the Duomo cathedral, the fourth biggest in Europe which was still very impressive. The evening was really cool, as everyone got dressed up for ... read more

Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome September 13th 2006

Geo: 41.8115, 12.6635now im kinda pushed for time, which is a bit of a tragedy, cos theres SO much to say about this city. first up, its even crazier and socially questionable than venice. theres gypsies, thieves, conmen and beggars everywhere. more importantly though, its astonishingly cultural. arguably the most revered historical city in the world, from the colloseum, to the pantheon, to the roman forum, from ruin to ruin, its overwhelmingly awesome just to appreciate that ure actually there. you cant walk like metres without wanting to take a thousand photos. its expensive here though, and the money is continuously wittling away.. sob. but yeah, i think ive seen about all im going to for my time here, (just came from a monk monastry decorated with thousands of human bones and skeletons) as its almost ... read more

Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice September 13th 2006

Geo: 45.2723, 12.3087Venice was a really nice city. very busy. the thing im finding with italy, is i love the country, but dislike the nature of it all, and demeanor of the population (without being rude, but thats the way it is) hectic, rude, and busy. push push shove shove. i loved st marks cathedral, and the canals. a gondola ride was in order too with a couple bottles of wine. also went to the peggy gugenheim museum, due to the academia museum being mysteriously closed.... read more

Europe » Austria September 13th 2006

Geo: 47.2568, 11.5335it was a fairly brief stop over in austria, but there was plenty of sightseeing on the coach. the austrian countryside is probably the most beautiful countryside ive ever seen. beautiful mountain ranges, rivers, fields, cliffs.. with villages tucked in everywhere, ill definatley have to go back there some time and see more. the focus of our couple hours in austria was white water rafting. this was GREAT fun.. lasting about 2 hours, through breathtaking sights. i got front seat the boat so the main paddling was for me to do! so tiring, but great, and id like to try a rougher course some day.... read more

Europe » Czech Republic » Prague September 7th 2006

Geo: 50.0878, 14.4205Once again, a heaps different type of city to Berlin, Amsterdam and London. Prague is the type of place for me, that whilst it lacks a vast amount of really significant monuments... its the kind of place you can just stroll around for and appreciate for hours.. (grr the little kid next to me in this cafe wont SHUT UP and her geeky father cant tear himself from the computer to discipline them!). Started at the Ancient Czech castle. Which is one of the few to survive damage from the second world war. There is a huge Gothic cathedral here, St Peters i think it was. Really cool, with gargoyles aplenty. As well as fantastic murals everywhere. i think the clinger is slowly getting the message, but ill need plenty of help there. From ... read more

Europe » Germany » Saxony » Dresden September 7th 2006

Geo: 51.0696, 13.5834Just a quick note about the German city of Dresden. After leaving Berlin, we set off early morning towards the Czech Republic, with a 3 hour stopover in the German city of Dresden. This city was really beautiful, much different to that of Berlin. This city was very old fashioned, with cobble stone roads, and heavy brick stone buildings. also had a fantastic huge cathedral. its amazing how some of these buildings were constructed. One of the chapels here actually holds the preserved heart of the great "Augustus the Strong," long departed hero of this city. There was also this cool funky penguin related soft serve icecream which was cool. Tragically, after leaving this city, things took a turn for the worse.... the bus blew its "turbo pipe" thing.. leaving us stranded at a German ... read more

Europe » Germany » Berlin September 5th 2006

Geo: 52.5235, 13.4115ive got around about 25minutes on the net, here in Berlin. Its 7.10pm and im jaded from walking all around the city today. Its a really beautiful city. Ive just visted the Paragon museum or something like that, which had stacks of artifacts from ancient civilisations. Also today ive been on a guided tour around the streets and seen things like the Reichstad, Brandenbourg Gate, Charlies Checkpoint, the site of Hitlers bunker, Holocaust Memorial and much more. Theres a sorta aussie vibe to this place, much unlike amsterdam. The people are apparently very laid back, and almost sorta reserved. Ive been taking stacks of photos. though i still dont have the time or means to upload em. i will try some more, but will definatley be able to when i arrive back in london ... read more
