Geo: 55.9044, -2.94718So finally, our trip around Scotland got under way! Basically my second uncle (i think it is), Joe, and I set off around 8am by car, from Durham to Scotland. Our major destination, Edinburgh. The drive itself took probably around about 3 hours, and we arrived in Edinburgh around lunchtime. We parked the car, grabbed a pint of local Scottish beer, and set off on foot around the town. Walked down the main street to the Castle of Edinburgh. It cost £10.50 to get in, but it really was worth every penny. Got audio guides, and walked around listening to the rich and dramatic history of the castle. There were spectacular views from the top, over the whole of the city. Other highlights were the Scotish crown jewels, inside the keep at the top. After ... read more

Geo: 54.7911, -1.76455Well for everyone back home, especially in Melbourne, you must know of Sovereign Hill. You know, the touristy place that tries to educate about Old School Australia, and the Gold Rush. Well basically, Beamish open air museum is the English equivalent. Instead of the gold rush however, its all about Coal Mines, and old English farms, and towns, and steam.I arrived there with Joe, at around quarter past ten in the morning. Our Beamish experience started with a hardhat tour down an drift coal mine shaft. Its really amazing to consider the way men in this area would have worked back in the early 19th Century, even as late as 1970. The conditions were harsh, and one can only imagine the thousands of medical conditions and issues that may have come about as a ... read more

Geo: 54.7911, -1.76455Now a day of rest in Durham. Well kinda. Its Sunday afternoon. I got up early this morning for a soccer game!! to play in. I managed to get the guy who took us to the Sunderland match yesterday, to allow me to play in a 5 a side match, just near Darlington. Was great fun, how ive missed playing soccer!! its been over 6 weeks now, maybe more. We won the match 16-6, on like a basketball court sized field. I scored 8 goals, and hit the woodwork 4 or 5 times, and set up quite a few :)Tomorrow, we are heading off to a "English Sovreign Hill" type place, like an old fashioned tourist english town, and Scotland the day after that!! hoorah!NOTE:There are more photos on the way... from the second ... read more

Geo: 54.9054, -1.37034Saturday in England, and that means football. First up though, was a trip to Shotton, to visit my great uncle Tommy (grandads brother), and his wife Mary. That turned out to be quite nice, with plenty of nice coffee, pie, scones and cake. They were a really nice couple, Tommy really reminded me of Lawrence, my grandad. After that, it was off to the Stadium of Light, to watch Sunderland play against Sheffield Wednesday in the English Championship (division below the Premier League). Was a pretty impressive stadium, but still no Emirates stadium. The match was entertaining, Sunderland dominating the first half, but failing to score. They pinched a goal just after the hour mark, but then sat back on their lead and were lucky to repell a barrage of Sheffield pressure and run out ... read more

Geo: 54.7682, -1.72513Hey all from Durham, England. Finally decided to get on a bus, and head up to the north of the country for a different perspective on England. Had to run from Victoria station with my poorly packed bag, to make the bus by a minute at 9am. Wasnt too bad of a trip, took 6.5hours, and cost me 15£. Arrived in Newcastle in the late afternoon, and was picked up by uncle once removed Joe. Ill probably be staying here for around about a week id say. Joe ane Maureen have been heaps hospitable, and im sure itl be a pleasure to stay here. I just hope they feel the same about me hehe. Yesterday, after I arrived, Joe took me to see a couple things in Newcastle. After coming to unpack at Joe ... read more

Geo: 51.5002, -0.126236Well ive been here a few days now.. sleeping in Sarahs strange single room downstairs, and tryna see and do a few things, and just getting the feel of England in general. Man i absolutely love the amount of pubs and bars they have here. Like, iv probably expressed that im a fan of places like the Irish at Ozone back home. Good for a meal and a pint. Well rather than finding one every 20minute drive maybe, theres like 6 on every street here in England!! If ure anywhere near London, you are guaranteed to have just a few minute walk from your front door, to get to one. Another thing I like about London as opposed to back home, is theres just so much happening and on. Theres always something to see ... read more

Geo: 51.5002, -0.126236Well ive been a enthusiastic Arsenal supporter for some 10 or more years, so to actually attend a game was a long time coming.. Ive been a member of an international Gunners fan club/ message board for quite some time.. and fortunatley enough managed to make an agreement with a guy on there to attend a game with him. 40£ the cost, but worth every penny. Met up with Gavin around 12.30, and we made our way towards Emirates, going past Highbury on the way, or what was left of it. The new stadium absolutely puts Highbury to shame, and is a fantastic one. Feels much like any stadium back home would (eg. telstra dome) but was extra special, as the home of my beloved Arsenal. After millions of photos, and soaking in the ... read more
