Today is the day,we will finally get to go to Fraser Island. We started the day at the caravan park at rainbow beach. We had no hurry to leave as the low tide was at 2 pm and as such we could not go to the island until ts hours before low tide. This meant it was ideal to get on the barge no earlier than 12 noon. Well, do you think we could wait. We were on the boat at 11.30am. We just could not wait any longer. We released air out of our tyres to ensure we do not get stuck in the sand. They were a few people stuck in the sand. It was so busy. It was like Bourke street. Anyhow we got on the barge with no incident and we jumped ... read more

Hi all, this is the second day of our travel up to Fraser Island. We worked on the basis that we would travel the 1,900kms in two days. yesterday was a killer but today was easier As we only had to do 750kms. We left Narrabri in the dark at 6 am. I wasn't sure about this as we were likely to hit, literally a bunch of kangaroos on the road. Surprisingly we did not see one live. We saw quite a few dead Roos and even pigs. Pigs are pests out here and for them to be hit by cars means there must be a lot around. Anyway the road kill was very small compared to what we had seen at Cape York last year. We still saw quite a few Hawks flying around the ... read more

Hi all, today was a really long day. Got up at 4am all excited to be finally leaving for our trip to Fraser. We left home at 4.50 am and headed out to the Hume to meet the others. 14 hours later we arrive at our destination at Narrabri. We stopped quite a few times. Morning tea, lunch and plenty of restroom breaks, although not sure peeing against a tree or on the side of the road is classed a " restroom" break ( you can do this when you are only 4 years old). Lunch was a pie with sauce and similar food from a local bakery. Tried a chocolate eclair OMG it was awful (but I still ate it). We stopped at the CSIRO telescope just outside a town called Parkes. A pretty impressive ... read more

Hi all, well this will be my last post in this blog. We are home. We came back from Port Douglas in 3 days. We are coming down in a different route than the one we came up in. No dirt roads this time. From Port douglas we stopped and are staying in a cabin in Emerald Qld. Then we drive a whole day and 1,170 km to Dubbo in NSW and on the third day we completed about 860km to get home. A big three days. On the first day we got to see the biggest road train ever. A Toll truck that was true road train. It had three trailers. OMG what a truck. See the photo. Thank you all for following my posts. I hope you have not been too bored with our ... read more

Hi all, what a great day today has been. It is one of the highlights of the trip. It was a full day. First we drove an hour to a small country train station called Freshwater Station. It reminded me of the Puffing Billy station. The carriages were old and rattly. Had a diesel though. The Train took us up to the top of a part of the great Dividing Range to a place called Kuranda. We had lunch there and went to all of the markets and stalls etc. it was full on. It reminded me of a less yuppy version of Port Douglas. Anyhow was nice to see. A little rain mixed in made it interesting. It was certainly colder than the Cape. On the way back we went down using a cable car ... read more

Hi all, today we are based in Port Douglas. We woke up to rain. I think the locals call it showers. Well I call it RAIN. It stops and starts. It might be showers but I don't like them. Anyhow we did not let the weather stop us. We decided to book for a train and sky rail journey for tomorrow. Today we headed towards the Daintree village, in serious rain. What hope do we have. Well it wasn't too bad. When we got to the village it had stopped raining, ohh sorry showers. Well Tonina was immediately attracted to the coffee machine at the local pub so we stopped there for morning tea. Then we booked a trip on a small flat bottomed river boat. The showers had stopped for a little while. Anyhow we ... read more

Hi all, today we left Weipa at 8am. I woke my sister Tracey up at 6am with my normal shake of her camper and some pig snorts From outside her camper. Again she called me a pest. Did 9 hours on the road with very little time allocated for lunch and morning tea. Tonina did not get her morning coffee. She was grumpy (only joking). Stopped at Coen and Laura and had lunch at Musgrave roadhouse. Ended up at a park in Port Douglas. Dinner was a great home cooked steak. Tonight we will plan what we will do tomorrow. Three nights in Port Douglas and then continue our journey home.... read more

Hi all, we woke up at Weipa. I was thinking this might be a quiet day. Well I was wrong. First we decided we would go on a tour of the Rio Tinto mine. Booked for the 8.30 tour which takes 2.30hrs. Well to my surprise Ken and Maureen were on the same tour. Ken was my old boss over 10 years ago. I knew they were coming up here but for us to meet on the same tour was unbelievable. The trip on the bus to the inside of the mine was incredible. There are some pictures attached. They are mining Bauxite in open cut fashion and the miners are all residential and live in Weipa. After the mine we went to the local bread shop and had a quick lunch there. The only two ... read more

Hi all, today is Saturday and we packed up from Mutee Heads to head back towards Weipa. This is the start of our journey back to Melbourne but we still have a week left us here so we will spend a couple of nights at Weipa and then travel down South and stay 3 nights at Port Douglas. before we left Xavier, Matthew and Mason went for one last fish on the Tinny at 6 am. They came back smiling as they caught two big Queen Fish. It is important at this point for me to highlight that both fish were not as big as the one I caught. I still hold the record for the largest fish caught by our group for the whole holiday period. I make sure I remind them all every chance ... read more
