Hi all, this morning we woke up to get ready to cross the Jardine river on the ferry. Let me just explain the ferry. It is a platform that is linked to both sides of the river by a heavy steel cable. the ferry can handle 6 Landcruisers 2 abreast. Cost was $99 per car. We got on at 8.30am. Once on the other side of the river we were in Aboriginal protected land. The $99 we paid included a permit. To camp on aboriginal sites. We drove through a small town called Bamaga before settling into the park at Seisa which is the most northern town in the Cape Pensinsula. Another 50km or more and we will reach the tip of Australia. We unpacked and after lunch went to one of the islands, about 500metres ... read more

Cape York Monday 25th Woke up today on the Southern side of Gunshot creek. It was a reasonably steep entrance and also a steep exit although the exit was dry. The Troopy lifted its wheels off the ground quite a few times as it was going through Gunshot. Let me just say my adrenaline was pumping and heart racing. Troopy did well. After Gunshot we got to Cockatoo Creek. It made Gunshot look easy. The creek was about 30 metres wide and in two spots there were rapids. Oh my god what an experience. The entrance was steep and a little rocky and immediately followed by muddy sand, we then did the crossing in the water, the water got up to the bull bar and in the back the water was up to the exhaust. Hi all, today Sunday 24th May, we are leaving Weipa before 10am (check out time) and driving back out to the Cape Development road and to Bramwell station which is basically a fuel and food stop. It is also the formal start to the Old Telegraph Track known as the OTL. We took a couple of photos at the entrance to the track and headed into the track. About 5 km in we reached our first obstacle. Palm creek had a nearly vertical entrance (looked vertical to me but probably wasn't) and this also had a very steep exit which was winch up only. No cars are able to get up without a winch. I decided to not attempt this. Tonina and Lisa were with me. Matthew was brave enough to attempt and was successful. Very ... read more

Cape York Friday 22nd May Today started with some fishing again. My grandson Cohen caught a beautiful salmon. The one and only for the trip so far. Very proud boy he was. Mid morning, Xavier and Tracey went out on the little tinny we have and the rest went exploring the coast with the four wheel drives. We were in walkie talkie communication with Tracey. She ended up catching 2 mackerel and Xavier caught none. While he was fishing we ended up finding a secluded camp spot that had a set of swings and tables and chairs made of the timber surrounds. Also found a washed up fishing net floater the size of my car. Matthew dragged it behind his ute back to our camp. With this being our third full day my batteries are starting ... read more

Cape york Thursday 21st May I woke up at 6am and Matthew was already fishing. He had already caught a Queen fish. As we were fishing we saw two sharks come up right to the shore. The one I saw was at least two metres long. A Little bit of fishing for the morning. The kids are having a ball particularly with the fishing. The kids put together a floating raft made of driftwood and old thongs/flip flops and put a plastic sail on a couple of pieces of timber. We all wrote our names and put a message in a bottle. We let the sail go and the wind did the rest. Let's see if we get a response from the other end of the Asian world. The middle of the day was extremely hot ... read more

Hi all, today is a relaxing day at a caravan park in Weipa a small town at the top of Australia. Got up early this morning.(5am just can't shake getting up early) and went for a walk to the beach. I found Matthew already walking around the water. This is crocodile central and I was a little scared about a crocodile coming out of the water and eating us alive. Matthew was all relaxed and given the water was as clear as it could be and so so shallow it was safe to just waddle in the water. Later everyone joined in. The water is so warm. The tide was going out and the water was so shallow. No crocodiles. We went to have a look at the pier in Weipa just after lunch. I didn't ... read more

Hi again, this blog is about the trip from Morehead river to Weipa. The night turned out to be very cold and Tonina took my blanket and kept it to herself. what a laugh. We ended up sharing. We did not take too much blankets as it is going to be hot. The day started simple enough with a beautiful morning with a fire and a cool breakfast. We packed up with no hurry as we only had 400km to travel today. Well was not that simple was it. Saver's car would not start. It appears that the main battery was not protected from the fridge drain and the fridge drained the battery. After some ingenious activity we started his car With NO jumper leads. I packed everything but jumper leads. Off we went to the ... read more

Hi all. Finally left Cairns at about 9.15am on Sunday 17th. We were planning to get about half way to Weipa which is in the Cape Peninsula. We got to Port Douglas as a first stop and the girls decided they loved the market and the shops and then decided they wanted to have lunch there. Two hours later we were still there. A five minute stop. Haha. Finally after lunch we left being over one hour behind schedule. The landscape had changed significantly and there were a lot of cane fields and sub tropical vegetation. We went past a few towns including Laura and Lakefield. We finally found a dry creek bed full of sand. This was true four wheel driving action and my sister and her husband Saver got stuck in the sand. I ... read more
