The Development road to Weipa
This is what the dirt road always looks like. Dust and more dust. You have to stay at least 500 metres away from the car in front to make sure you are not in their dust. Hi all. Finally left Cairns at about 9.15am on Sunday 17th. We were planning to get about half way to Weipa which is in the Cape Peninsula. We got to Port Douglas as a first stop and the girls decided they loved the market and the shops and then decided they wanted to have lunch there. Two hours later we were still there. A five minute stop. Haha. Finally after lunch we left being over one hour behind schedule. The landscape had changed significantly and there were a lot of cane fields and sub tropical vegetation. We went past a few towns including Laura and Lakefield. We finally found a dry creek bed full of sand. This was true four wheel driving action and my sister and her husband Saver got stuck in the sand. I tried to pull them out with Troopy but no luck. We lowered his tires and he gout into the camp spot on his own. We cooked dinner as the sun was coming down, this is a mistake in the bush particularly with all of the insects. Morehead River
Camping on the Morehead river dry bed. What a place. So many stars out at night it got dark was about 25degrees and overnights got quite chilly. Check out the photos
