Day 3 Today we woke up to a clear sky and mild temperature at 10 degrees Celsius. We are heading up to Coober Pedy and then final destination today being another one pub town of William Creek which is on the Oodnadatta track. This part of Australia has had significant rain and we won't be far from Lake Eyre. On the way to Coober Pedy one of our team cars, called " whatdoyareckon" had a puncture. It took all of the team , all 16 of us, to change one tyre. It was shredded. This is what I call team work. We stopped at Coober Pedy, filled up the cars and did a little sightseeing. It was bizzarr . Most of the teams headed to the pups and supermarkets to stock up on grog and we ... read more

Hi everyone, today is day 2. We slept well in the swags last night although it was a clear night and only 3 degrees. Woke up to a beautiful morning. Today we are going to a town called Kingoonya. This is a one pub town. We decorated our car with black duct tape stripes to make it go faster. Haha. Driving to this town is on dirt road with a lot of dust. The problem is Xavier loves tailgating and we are copping a mouthful of dust and Xavier is loving the fish tailing and trying to miss the potholes. Plenty of pee stops along the way. Before we left our camp the Mystery Box organisers provided us with a brown bag lunch as we would be in remote south Australia. Well remote is an understatement. ... read more

Hi everyone, well today is day 1 of our car rally. We know the make and model of our cars but we don't know if they run well or not. We stayed at the Ibis hotel in Adelaide last night. This might be the last time we will have a good sleep for 5 days. Anyhow we finally made it to Manheim at 7.30 and found a hundred people either looking for their cars or decorating them and it was raining. Anyhow we found the cars. Our car the ford AU was a gem. No obvious problems at all although as I write this our abs light just went on. Xavier is not worried as he doesn't use the brakes anyway. Lunch was at hungry jacks in port Augusta. Today was a 560km trip to a ... read more

Well today is day 1. We were going to leave at 6am but we could not get all our rubbish into the back of Xaviers ranger . Anyhow we left at 6.30am. It was a pretty smooth drive and we got to Adelaide 30 mins early. Took a while to remember Adelaide is 30 mins behind us. After a quick visit at our cousins place we headed to the Manheim auctions. Well we are going on a car rally to an unknown destination in an unknown car. What a funny auction. A bunch of old cars came through the auction shed. 135 cars being bid for and you don't know what cars are coming. Lots of very small cars and cars that have had a hard life. We got a ford au. Hammered off course but ... read more

It is very hard to pack for an unknown destination. Gotta pack for hot and cold. AND we have limited space to pack. We have luggage for two people including swags to go into the boot of an unknown car. I hope it will be a station wagon but I won't hold my breath. Apparently have to also add a Gerry can just in case we run out of petrol. ... read more

Hi everyone, at the end of this week I will be doing something I have never ever done before. I am joining 300 other people on an unknown adventure in unknown cars. We are all joined in our efforts to raise money for the Cancer Council and to date these 145 teams (teams of two in each car) have raised over $580,000 for the Cancer Council. I will be on this trip with my brother in law Xavier. He will be driving and I will be navigating and hopefully having the odd nap.. The cars we will get will be old bombs worth no more than $1,000. We are bringing some tools with us to the rally just in case our wheels fall off. Subject to internet availability I will blog everyday for 6 days starting ... read more

Hi everyone, this is mt last blog for this trip to Fraser island. We are home now. We spent the last two days travelling 1,900 kms to get home. It was an easy drive to the Big 4 park at Kingaroy. The park was nothing special. Just a place to sleep. We left at 7am to head off to Dubbo. We expected to get to Dubbo by 5pm and we were on schedule. We left Dubbo at 4am the next day. We got home at 1pm. Tonina and I headed to Sarah's place to surprise mum as they were having a mothers day lunch there. We were still in our shorts and thongs. It was a great end to the holiday to not only celebrate mothers day with my sisters and mum but to also celebrate ... read more

Fraser Island Friday 6th May 2016 Today we got up prepared to leave the Island. As I have mentioned in earlier posts the tide times are important. High tide was 7.15 am and low tide was at 1.16 pm. This meant we should leave at about 10 am. Paul wanted to leave earlier but we knew it would be hard to leave too early. We compromised and agreed we would leave at 9 am. In the end he convinced us to leave at 8 am. He was proven wrong very quickly. We had only gone 7 kms and hit our first beach. The tide was too high and the cars were running too hard to just move a very short distance. We decided to wait the tide out at Indian Head and went for a walk ... read more

Fraser Island Thursday 5th April 2016 Today was going to be a quiet day camping on the beach for most of the time. Anyhow that's what I thought. We decided at the last moment that we wanted to continue to the cape of Fraser Island. Now this is the domain of experienced four wheel drivers as there are two big obstacles to pass. The first one is a sandy by pass track that goes inland into a sand dune for about 500 metres after you go through a small rock based water puddle. Anyhow we were not the first there. There was a Ford Ranger stuck in the ruts. It reminded me of my sister Tracey. I think she would have loved this (not). Tracey is still scared from getting stuck in sand at Cape York ... read more

Fraser Island Wednesday 4th Today started normally with Cohen and I getting up at 6 am to have breakfast. Yes you read right, we get up at 6 am every morning. I know we are on holidays but we can't help ourselves. Once the sun is up we are up. Today we are going to spend the day at the rocks at Waddy Point. We were delayed a little as we had a flash thunderstorm. It started pouring at 10 am or so and it was over in 30 mins. We were on the road or bush track by 11.30 am and we headed to the Indian Head beach and started looking for pippies. Man these pippies are harder to find than dingoes. We were supposed to look for small round heaps in the sand as ... read more
