Today we spent the day in Ayutthaya, which was definetely amazing, although we probably could have ditched the non English speaking tour guide that gave us absoluetly gave us no information, except pointing us in the direction of the ticket box, in which we had thought was included in the prce of our tour. Ayuttaya is one of the ancient capitals of Thailand, before Bangkok, and after Sukkathai, it was quite amazing, with ruins that have lived on throught the ages, many of which reamain quite remarkably intact, the spread themselves amongst various parts of the city, with a real mix of old and new, although most of the ruins are within walls, in which there is separate admission fees to each set of ruins, which can become quite expensive to the budget backpacker, however it ... read more

Today we did a day trip leaving our hostel in Bangkok, we began with a trip to the floating market, which was amazing, although more for the tourists than the locals I think, there was so many people down there, but there was many bargains to be found if you wanted them, although taking children is not the greatest idea, as the stall holders really play on the emotions of your children, when looking for buyers, at the end of it we were even offered these unique plates with our photographs on them at the market. Following on from the market we travelled in our mini van to Kanchanaburi where we visit the war cemetary, which was quite moving, especially seeing the ages of many of these young me, before continuing on to walk the famous ... read more

Well we arrived in Bangkok quite early this morning, arriving at our hostel at around 1am, so we had a sleep in this morning before visiting Bangkok's famous weekend market, which I believe is one of the biggest in the world, if not the biggest. I have never seen anything like it, it was totally amazing, it just seemed to go on for ever, and despite the fact that many of the things you could buy almost any where there was a lot of quite unique items to be found here if you looked hard enough, we had a ball, although I didnt buy a huge amount I sampled different delights, and simply soaked up the atmosphere, it was great... read more

We arrived at our resort accomodation mid afternoon, our two days of relaxation and luxury, before we reach Bangkok. The Island was beautiful, with that real tropical holiday atmosphere. We were staying in a luxury resort in Batu Ferringhi, the main tourist stretch of beech, the gardens and pool area, overlooking the most exquisite scenery and beeches, although with a lot of jelly fish the safer option was definetely the abundance of pools at the resort. And whilst the streets during the day were relatively layed back, at night it become awake with the excitement of the night markets which just seemed to appear from no-where. They were almost straight out our door, and there was definetely bargains to be found, especially if you were willing to bater with them, although I have probably bought too ... read more

We arrived at KL international at 11am, and at our hostel at 3pm, after what I must say was a ride that I do not wish to have again, in fact there was a couple of times that I thought if this is what SE Asia is going to bring I am going home right now. As we walked through the doors at arrivals we were greeted by an enterage of drivers, and limo services, after fighting them away, making our way to the bus stop we were followed by a taxi driver, who claimed that he could have us at our hostel in 45 minutes, rather than the 2hr bus journey, so tired and weary we bargained a price with him, however I soon realised that he was not a real driver, as we moved ... read more

Well I went to Singapore with the thought of a semi glamorous beginning to our SE Asian experience, after all Singapore is supposed to be the pearl of the orient, and is poised as the Paris, London or Milan of SE Asia, so there was my first shock. We arrived in Singapore in the morning, having left Australia quite late on a cold night we were still dressed in our winter clothes, which as you can imagine was quite a shock to the system when we walked outside the airport to be greeted by the most intense humidity I have ever experienced. First impressions of Singapore were that the city was very sterile, and too over controlled, I am suprised you are even allowed to walk on the streets in case you get dirt on them. ... read more
