Asia August 31st 2006

Today it was up early and again off to another airport, this time it was off to Ho Chi Minh city, a more modern city as far as Vietnamese cities go, also a city of motorbikes with 8million people and 4million motorbikes, although at least this one is a little more organised. We visit a market, a chinese temple, the war crimes museum, which really was quite shocking. This evening we took a walk around the city, and visit a lovely chinese resteraunt, where I drank about 20 cups of chinese tea, the man kept filling my cup every time I put it down, and I felt obliged to drink. ... read more

Today we were again up early, this time headed for Hoi An, which caused a few mix ups at there was two different groups of five leaving from our hotel by bus to Hoi An, we seemed to catch the wrong bus, but we arrived, eventually. Hoi An is such a lovely Vietnamese city, which really gives such an insight into the Vietnam of yester year, it really is soooo beautiful, especially the area that houses the old merchants homes. We just seemed to spend the day wandering around, just taking it all in very leisurely, wandering the market, looking at some temples, and also viewing the Japanese covered bridge.... read more

Today we all got up at 4am, heading for the airport to go to Hue. On arrival at Hue airport we were greeted by our tour guide of whom had a huge bunch of flowers for yours truely (now that is customer service). We did a Hue city tour visiting the citadel, where Dominic and I dressed as Royalty, for some very regal photographs, we also visit tombs, museums, and took a boat down the perfume river. Lunch today was unbelievable with the most fantastic food carvings garnishing our meal. TRonight we took a trishaw to a night market, where we eventually left with a woman chasing my mother with goods all the way back to our transport, and when Mum refused to buy off her the lady hit her.... read more

Today we visit the world Heritage site of Ha Long Bay, something that we have all been looking forward to and it certainally lived up to expectations. We took a traditional Vietnamese Junk on a quiet trip around the bay visiting a floating fishing village where we bought some fresh sea food that was cooked for us on board, we then took a smaller boat through some caves, before boarding the junk again to go and visit some other caves in the area. As we moved around the bay we had several small boats come up beside us with women and children selling fruit, often with the children briefly climbing on board, other boats floated around with women and babies, it really was quite facinating to see this entire different way of life. ... read more

Today we did a Ha Noi city tour visiting all that is Ho Chi Minh, , is former house, the museum of his life, and of course we lined up to see the dead man himself at the Mausoleum, at first this seemed as though we would be lined up forever but the line moved quite fast, with every-one filing past for their few seconds f viewing of the former president. We also visit a host of temples, the ethnicity museum, and we were also able to view a water puppet show which really gave an insight into an old vietnamese tradition. And of course today was also about the food, and vietnamese food is wonderful.... read more

Today we got up early head for the airport, where we board a flight to Ha Noi, Vietnam. Upon arrival we had a 3 hour wait at the airport for my parents to arrive from Australia, their first trip abroad. We were then greeted by a driver who headed for our guesthouse in Ha Noi's ald quater. Muma and Dad soon became very tense as they recieved their introduction into Asian driving, the beeping of horns, and the erratic side to side movements. The old quater here is quite facinating, and allows you to gain a real incite into the day to day life of Vietnam, and these people never seem to sleep. Ha Noi at first impression is very busy, with 4million people living here and 2million motorbikes that all seem to be one the ... read more

Today is the day that most children dream of. and today it became reality for myself, and my son, today we went to Hong Kong Disneyland. I managed to keep it a secret from Dominic until we reached Disneyland station, even managing to bluff my way through reasons of the Mickey mouse train. And it was everything I ever dreamt of, and truely made all Dominic's dreams come true. From the tea cups, to an African safari, and a trip on space mountain, the Disneyland Parade and the fireworks we enjoyed it all, even a photo with Mickey and Minnie. Today was truely one fantastic day.... read more

Asia » Hong Kong » Lantau Island August 24th 2006

Well we made it to Hong Kong, yesterdays arrival bought mixed emotions, the city to me being quite claustraphobic, and a little overwhelming. So getting to Lantau Island was a great relief from the hussle and bustle of the city. We travelled out to see the famous big Buddah, a Hong Kong icon, we walked the path of wisdom, although I am not sure that I am any wiser, as well as having some fantastic food. Tonight we travelled to Victoria Peak, which despite heavy cloud cover and rain was quite a view.... read more

Asia November 3rd 2005

Well we woke a little earlier than I had hoped and missed out on the twin towers, so instead we headed off to the batu caves, batu caves are not very far from central KL by bus. The caves themselves, which have been converted into a Hindu temple are quite amazing, with brilliant rock formations, and over two hundred steps to get to the top they are definetely worth seeing. This is also a great place to see monkeys, although my suggestion to you is not to get too close, and also it is best not to feed them, as once you feed one, then suddenly there is 50 of them. They are really cute though. We then headed for little India, which was a little dissappointing due to Deepavali celebrations much of little India was ... read more

Asia November 2nd 2005

Well we all woke up a little sick this mornig after quite a big night out. I had full intentions of heading back to KL quite early, however my stomach could not bear the thought of getting on a bus to head around those windy roads. I said a sad farwell to Wil this morning, as he had to go out on a tour, I was kind of hoping to see him again before I left, however this was not to be, I did leave him a little gift to remember me by though. When we finally arrived back in KL for our last night we headed of to the cHina Town Night markets to buy the rest of my gifts, which was a lot of fun, and I bought tonnes of things at bargain prices, ... read more
