What a celebration in a most beautiful setting. Richard and Catherine being married in Villa Rosa overlooking St Georges Bay. Family and friends were gathered from UK , Sweden Malta and Dubai. After welcome drinks the ceremony took place on the terrace with myself and Christer as witnesses signing away my son and his daughter in a happy union. At 5.30 pm as the sun shone down on us we were glad of the fans which had been provided for the ladies!! And so to greet and congratulate the bride and groom we wandered in the gardens by the pool ( 2 swans-not real ones-swimming happily around). Then we were seated for a gourmet 4 course dinner along with toasts of sparkly and lots of wine. The best man , Ben - a friend from uni ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » Wales June 1st 2015

Sometimes an opportunity to travel nearer to home crops up and so it was with an invite to stay in a caravan near Hay on Wye for a few days. It is great to have a network of friends , bloggers and fellow house exchangers which enables me to travel across the globe and also here at home. So at the drop of a hat within a few days of the invite (thanks Patricia NZ friend) I was booked for events at The Hay on Wye book festival and excited to be heading off there. When you fly you are far more economical with the packing but when I go in the car its almost a kitchen sink job. And since we still haven't really seen the summer yet I needed thick wooly jumpers and socks ... read more

Europe » Spain » Galicia » Santiago de Compostela April 18th 2015

When thinking of Spain lots of people do not think of forests, wooded hills, mountains and GREEN spaces.... but Galicia has this in abundance. And why is it so green - well of course the rainclouds travel across the Atlantic and on meeting that North West corner of Spain let go the rain. And being close to the Atlantic coast there is also quite a bit of fog and this was the situation when we flew into Santiago and drove down to the little town of Salvaterra on the River Minho , right on the northern border of Portugal. This place was my lovely daughter-in-law Anabel's homeland and this was my first visit there to meet her extended family. We had taken a flight with Ryanair from Stansted at a reasonable hour and many thanks to ... read more

Middle East » United Arab Emirates » Dubai January 21st 2015

Escaping the winter in England seems like a good excuse to get away to sunnier climes and as I have said before I am lucky with the locations my kids have chosen to live ...so here I am in Dubai at Suzanne's for a month. It is now 10 years since I lived here and the changes have been enormous and seem to continue. On my last visits I tried out the new metro and linking busses to get around - this time it's a new Tram system which links up to the metro around the Dubai Marina area and is set to go further in Phase 2. There are also water busses which take you from the Marina all the way to the old Creek area of Dubai. The ease with which you can use ... read more

Europe » Malta » Malta January 13th 2015

I am indeed lucky that two of my kids live in such lovely locations and so it was time to take a trip see Richard in Malta in November, this time in the company of my dear brother Trevor and Christine. Staying some nights at the Fortina Spa Hotel we had that amazing view of Valetta across the harbour from Sliema. There seem to be two opinions on Malta - a bit like Marmite , you like it or hate it. I can only thinks that those who hate it have had a most unfortunate experience ..maybe they had a bad hotel, bad weather, went to all the wrong places. This is my 4 th time there and each time I like it more... There is so much to do and explore from cruising the 3 ... read more

Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Calahonda January 13th 2015

Part 2 I forgot to mention in Part 1 that I had to fit in a trip to Dubai in August - it was HOT HOT HOT ! i had promised Suzanne I would see her in her new lifestyle there. And you cannot break a promise to your children how ever old they are !! And here I am again in Dubai but the temperature is perfect in January and I can relax and catch up on the blogs you missed. September was over and with enough time to re-pack I headed off to Spain ... A resort at Calahonda along the coast between Malaga and Marbella. Situated right on the beach the Leila Playa resort has a great location near the Cabopina marina and with shopping close by as well as a beach restaurant ... read more

Europe » Greece » Attica » Hydra January 13th 2015

Somehow I never found time and / or had telecoms difficulties to write about my travels in the latter half of 2014 and some folks might have thought I had given up and handed in my passport - of course not !! So urged by some friends and followers to catch up I find I have some time ( I am actually having a month in Dubai) and a new iPad so no excuse now. I did not intend to fill up the year with trips but they just seemed to happen - there was a glorious English summertime in July and August and lots of visitors kept me amused enjoying the delights of Sussex. Then September rolled in and I was off to the Greek island of Agistri a one hour ferry hop from Piraeus. ... read more

North America » United States » Florida » Miami Beach February 14th 2014

Hi all You can see a heck of a lot in 2 days if you plan it just right. We had booked ( 3 nights)into a little motel suite Sorrento Villas a block away from Miami Beach North - all the real action takes place at Miami Beach South but this great value motel was right on a bus route which took us either Downtown or to South Beach. And being a block away from North Beach it was great for a late afternoon beach stroll when we arrived. I didn't quite know what to expect of Miami - it hadn't been on my radar but it was on Suzanne's and I am so pleased we spent some time there, A huge city of course - driving in on these roads is not for the fainthearted ... read more

Our last week in Florida. What can you say about Disneyworld ... Walt is so good at make believe and fake destinations. It's time-travel on a budget -yes in one day you can visit Asia and Africa by just turning a corner or crossing a bridge . So a walk round the lake at Epcot saw us wandering from Paris to Morocco, Norway, Italy and Mexico to name just a few countries and on the way you can rub shoulders with Alice, Snow White , Donald Duck and Mary Poppins will make sure you are on your best behaviour. From the Tree of Life and Swiss Family Robinson's home to the African Savannah and Tom Sawyer's Island we were whirled around on mono-rail, old fashioned trains, paddlesteamers and rafts for 4 days visiting Epcot, Magic Kingdom, ... read more

Hello everyone Before I set off to meet Mickey tomorrow I better get a few days of blog up to date.
