Part 2
I forgot to mention in Part 1 that I had to fit in a trip to Dubai in August - it was HOT HOT HOT ! i had promised Suzanne I would see her in her new lifestyle there. And you cannot break a promise to your children how ever old they are !! And here I am again in Dubai but the temperature is perfect in January and I can relax and catch up on the blogs you missed.
September was over and with enough time to re-pack I headed off to Spain ... A resort at Calahonda along the coast between Malaga and Marbella. Situated right on the beach the Leila Playa resort has a great location near the Cabopina marina and with shopping close by as well as a beach restaurant ..what more could we ask. This time my dear friend Janice was with me ... First time on holiday together and she is a great companion ...we shared lots of laughs throughout the week. This is an area of Spain I have been to several times but as a first for Janice I was content to visit places I had been to previously
... With wonderful weather we walked the beaches, sat in the sun drinking cafe con leche, and cerveza not to mention getting through a few sangrias. Fish fresh from the sea was filleted at the table at our favourite restaurant on the beach.
When we got tired of relaxing by the pool we were entertained by a paella cooking demo and chose couple of excursions ..to Mijas, a beautiful Andalusian town up in the hills a few km away from the coast ...All whitepainted houses and narrow streets filled with flowers and donkeys ...very touristy but lovely nevertheless. And then Janice surprised me by saying lets go on a day trip to Tangier ... Well I couldn't refuse that ..to set foot in Africa. Does that count ?
An organised tour as such does mean you have to get up very early and are herded around a bit ..but it's a taster of a place and an experience you might otherwise not have. So a coach along to a ferry from Tarifa to Tangier .. Picked up by another coach there and whizzed around the outskirts of the city .. Embassies, parks and villas and a stop of
for some folk to ride a camel ...gave that a miss!!
Then we were out of the coach and on foot wandering the streets ( in the group - no wandering on your own) through the souk , with stops for a carpet shop and an old pharmacy and of course lunch . Streets are pretty scruffy but I expected that and we got pestered a bit but being ex- teachers Janice and I put on our sternest looks ..no thank you politely , don't look them in the eye, don't engage in conversation and we weren't hassled too much. It was a great atmosphere, colourful and I wouldn't have missed it. I wondered why lots of men were wearing yellow slippers ..if someone knows the answer ????
So if you are in that part of Spain with an opportunity to have a side trip to Tangier ...take it ...its a different world there.
All in all a lovely week and kept me going with sunshine until November when the next trip would be Malta and I do hope Janice will come with me again on holiday.
To be contd ... Part 3

Tangier
We've been to Morocco and love it but didn't make it to Tangier. Hopefully we can pop over there when we make it to Spain. We love cooking in our tangine.
