Day 3: Saturday, November 13th, 2010 The next day, Renata and I went on the NBC studio tour. We saw the set displays for Saturday Night Live, the Dr. Oz show and the Daily News. It was interesting to learn how they use camera tricks and angles to make small spaces appear larger on television. All the NBC studios we saw were a lot smaller than how they appeared on television. At the Daily News studio, we got the chance to pretend to be news anchors. Renata volunteered to be the weather girl from the Daily News. It was really funny watching her read the weather report from the teleprompter while moving her arms up and down on the green screen, trying to point to the right city. We were all cracking up ;-). Next Renata ... read more

Day 2: Friday, November 12th, 2010 Today we decided to decided to see one of the most iconic monuments of New York City: The Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty was given to the United States by France. It depicts a robed female figure representing Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, who bears a torch and a tabula ansata (a tablet evoking the law) upon which is inscribed the date of the American Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776. In the past, the statue of Liberty was the first thing new immigrants noticed when they arrived in America. Next to Liberty Island is Ellis Island, which was the historical gateway for millions of immigrants to the United States. As a major tourist attraction in New York City, it took more than 2 hours waiting in ... read more

Day 1: Thursday, November 11th, 2010 For Remembrance Day weekend my sister Renata, and I decided to take a trip to the fabulous city of New York. We arrived early Thursday morning in New York city after taking the overnight Greyhound bus departing from Toronto Wednesday evening. When we arrived in New York city, we picked up our New York Pass, which gave us access to many of the attractions in New York City. We had lunch at Planet Hollywood and then waiting in line at Time Square to buy reduced tickets for a Broadway show. After we brought our tickets for the musical "Promises Promises" that evening, we headed to our hotel to unpack, relax and get ready for our night of Broadway. "Promises Promises" was a witty and entertaining musical. It starred Kristin Chenoweth ... read more

Sunday, October 10th, 2011 The next day Renata and I decided to go up the mountain to visit St. Joseph's Oratory, whereas Liane and Candy went to see the botanical gardens. I woke up early to take a shower and hopefully get an early start to go site seeing. However, my sister was fast asleep and I did not have the heart to wake her up. When she finally woke up we headed up the mountain to see the Oratory and it was freezing up on the mountain. My hands were going numb ;-). The Oratory was beautiful; my second favourite church in Montreal. My favourite church is yet to come. The Oratory reminded me of Sacre Coeur in Paris and it provided a great view of Montreal from the top. This is the church that ... read more

Saturday, October 8th,2011 The next day we went back to the underground to go shopping. My sister and I bought a nice pair of jackets and boots for $100.00. It was buy one and get one for $1. The store was called Ailes, which had similar stuff to one of our favourite stores, Fairweather in Toronto. After shopping we headed off to this street that Renata thought had antique and artist shops but it was pretty much a dead end. I did get a couple of pictures of the graffiti on the walls, which was pretty cool. After wandering around the streets and realizing that there was nothing interesting there, we headed back on the subway and went to this beautiful Church, Marie de la Monde. We then headed of to lunch at a local fast ... read more

Friday, October 8th, 2010 The Thanksgiving long weekend has finally arrived and thus the road trip to Montreal begins. Our bags are packed, the rental car and hotel have been booked and its just us four girls (my cousins Candice and Liane, my sister Renata and I) and 6 hours of open road from Toronto to Montreal. The trip to Montreal was not complete without a stopover at Tim Hortons for our morning coffee and breakfast. When we arrived in Montreal around 1:00pm the highway was packed. Apparently, it was a half day and everyone was rushing home to get ready for the long weekend. We finally settled into our hotel (The Omni hotel) and went to Chinatown for lunch (yum dim sum ;-). Then we headed off on the Underground (McGill Station) to 'Le Promenade' ... read more

Day 16: London, England Thursday, October 22nd, 2009 So it was the end of our Topdeck Journey, but the beginning of our journey in London, England. Today Renata, Kathy and I got a London Pass to explore the major sights of London. But first we went to the Evans Evans tour company by Victoria station to book a tour to see Windsor Castle, Stonehenge and Bath the next day. We decided to first glaze upon the crown jewels found at the Tower of London. We got our own guided tour of the Tower of London from a Beefeater, dressed in their very own beefeater outfit. Apparently, they live in the Tower of London. After the Tower of London we headed over to and London Bridge Experience and the London Tombs. In this interactive experience, actors delve ... read more

Day 15: Amsterdam, Netherlands to Brugge, Belgium to Calais, France to London, England Wednesday, October 21st, 2009 It is back to London with a pit stop in Brugge, Belgium to buy some famous Belgium Chocolate before the trip ends. Brugge was a beautiful little town and we found a nice chocolate shop hidden in one of the many alleyways in Brugge. After we got our chocolate we headed back on our coach to drive to Calais, France where we had to catch the ferry into London. At customs we had to show our passports and although my sister was stopped and asked why she had a temporary passport we both were able to get onto the ferry and into England. When we arrived in London, we took the train to Norbury where our cousin Jean picked ... read more

Day 14: Amsterdam, Netherlands Tuesday, October 20st, 2009 It was an early start this morning as Renata and I boarded a train from Central station to The Haag, in pursuit of Renata temporary passport at the Canadian Embassy. We spent most of the day at the embassy with us slightly freaking out because we were told that we may have to come back the next day to get Renata's temporary passport. This would mean that we would miss the ferry going back to England and would have to spend another day in Amsterdam. It would also mean a lot more money spent finding accommodation and a train or plane ticket back to London. But it all worked out and Renata was able to get a temporary Passport, at a cost of course. We were also able ... read more

Day 12: Salzburg, Austria to Rhine Valley, Germany Sunday, October 18th, 2009 On to Rhine Valley, Germany today where we got to stay in a old century castle. I was kind of excited about living in a medieval castle, but when we finally got to the castle in Germany it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. We stayed in a room of 12 people with some of our tour mates and it was pretty cold for a castle. The food at the castles wasn't the greatest, and there was not much to do. A group of us just got together and started playing some card games and then called it a night.
