Geo: 42.1296, 12.1735We have been blessed with wall-to-wall sunshine in recent days, sometimes a bit too hot for comfort, so we have adjusted our routine accordingly.Yesterday (Saturday) we drove to Manziana since online resources claimed it is picturesque, with the Main Street lined with boutique shops. In reality, compared to locations we have visited recently both claims were wide of the mark. On a positive note, David got a hair cut and on the outskirts there is a small retail park with a Carrefour supermarket. After our last shopping experience, this was just what we needed so took full advantage and came back with supplies to fill the fridge and the food cupboards. We have taken to eating our evening meal quite late once the sun has gone down and the temperature lowers. Last night it was ... read more

Geo: 42.1299, 12.1727Apologies for lack of entries in the last few days, but the Internet here is not particularly user-friendly, so here we go...Monday morning we left Assisi with our friendly Milanese neighbours waving us off on what we thought would be a relatively straightforward transfer to our next stop on Lake Bracciano. We got to within a few miles of the lake on a mixture of motorway and minor roads, the condition of the latter leaving a lot to be desired being rutted and potholed in many places. Using the guidelines for the final approach as given in the ACSI and Caravan Club sites handbooks, on reaching the lakeside we followed signs for Bracciano, taking us in a clockwise direction through a number of small villages and towns. The book gave no indication of how ... read more

Geo: 42.1299, 12.1734(We have not used the Internet for a few days, so now time for a catch up.)Friday - we knew that it would be a long day's travelling, but as we left Punta Sabbioni in the morning after a night of on and off thunderstorms, it was not one of our more memorable days.Once on the motorway, we passed Venice, Padova, Ferrara, Florence, travelling through mixed weather, starting with chilly drizzle, then to sunny and warm, but as we left the motorway to travel eastwards towards Perugia, the heavens opened and the condition of the road surface deteriorated also. So after more than seven hours on the road, we arrived at Camping International Assisi just before 3.00. First impressions were that the site was not one of our best though the heavy rain did ... read more

Geo: 45.4413, 12.4224Wednesday, we did Venice as planned and one day was more than enough! There is a limit to the number of narrow streets and tourist shops selling brightly coloured Murano glass, decorated masks and other tat you can experience. We caught the 8.30 ferry from along the road in Punta Sabbioni which got us to St. Mark's Square and in the queue for the Basilica by 9.30 ready for opening of the doors at 9.45. Given the notoriously long wait, we decided to do this 'must see' sooner rather than later, but time soon went as you chatted to fellow tourists and marvelled at the amazing facade, despite the scaffold in place for repairs.Once inside, I was surprised how dark the interior is compared to other cathedrals and the like which we have visited over ... read more

Geo: 45.4408, 12.4226Yesterday at Camping Park Sexten was cold throughout though the snow had disappeared from the site by midday, but still visible on higher ground. We did not venture far - just some groceries and top-up of diesel ready for the transfer from San Candido. The awning was packed away in the afternoon so we went for a short walk from the site up the valley, after making a reservation at the Taverna again. We enjoyed another good meal. This time we both chose pasta, but different types. There was even live entertainment with a guitar-playing vocalist by the name of Alessandro. He was quite good and it made a pleasant change, and a fitting end to a pleasant stay. It is a rather quirky site with some unusual features. For instance, one of the toilet ... read more

Geo: 46.7034, 12.3504Yesterday (Sunday) was bright and sunny, but at times there was a distinct chill in the air. We started the day with breakfast in the awning, then had a relaxing day in, cleaned up a bit, did the ironing, read, ate, drank red wine, etc.By evening during a Skype with Lou and Olley it had started to rain, though not heavy. We were in bed just after 10.00.This morning, on waking at 6.00, we had a cup of tea whilst outside it was raining, followed by some heavy claps of thunder. We both turned over for a second doze, but imagine my surprise to look outside at 8.30 and see that it was snowing! I woke David who went out to shake snow off the roof of the awning since it is not an ... read more

Geo: 46.7034, 12.3504It would appear the entry I posted on Friday did not appear on line and has disappeared from the app where I draft the entries prior to publishing, so hopefully this extended one will bring you up-to-date on the past week. Our last couple of days at Innsbruck were so hot (30 degrees plus) and humid that we just pottered about, reading, puzzling, doing chores, passing the time of day with fellow travellers, as you do.Come Thursday, we left for the comparatively short transfer to our next site. Taking the motorway south via the Brenner Pass, we entered Italy after a drive through stunning scenery featuring alpine meadows littered with chalets. On exiting we headed east, turned right at San Candido (also known as Innichen - many places round here have two names which I ... read more

Geo: 47.2384, 11.3378Monday - after googling and references on Trip Advisor, we had the name of a favoured cafe where we stood a good chance of finding the perfect apple strudel. We therefore caught the 10.30 bus from outside the camp into Innsbruck, located the said cafe and on seeing the fine array of cakes and pastries on offer decided to return in a little while for a coffee and a slice. We made our way then to the church of St. Jacob which was recommended as a 'must see'. It is an ornately decorated baroque masterpiece with elaborately painted details on walls and ceiling. Not huge like some places of worship but impressive all the same. Then, back to Strude Cafe Kroell on Hofgasse where there were several strudel options open to us. I opted for the ... read more

Geo: 47.2364, 11.3373The forecast, once the early morning cloud had been burned off, was for sunshine. So after morning coffee we set off by car for Igls where we intended to take the cable car ride to Patscherkofel - a peak of 1953m overlooking Innsbruck. The journey to the top took us past assorted winter sports facilities, such as the bob sleigh run, which had been used during the two occasions that the olympics had been held here. Once there we set off on a walk route featured in a local leaflet and the panoramic views were spectacular over the Stubai Valley and pine forests. The approximate mid-point of the 6km trek was the Alpengasthof Boscheben where we took a rest over a piece of apple cake, me with a small beer and David with coffee and an ... read more

Geo: 47.2364, 11.3373Friday was spent doing chores like cleaning the caravan, washing and shopping. With the European holiday period looming, we also looked at our plans for the next month or so and mapped out where we wanted to be and for how long. Our next site over the border in Italy at Sexten in the Dolomites (yet more mountains, but probably our last for a little while) is booked from next Thursday. We were in this area last 10 years ago with the kids and Janet and Grahame though not at this same site. We loved it so for us it is a welcome return. The site we have chosen at Venice will not commit to a definite reservation but suggests that if we arrive during the morning there should not be a problem, but to ring ... read more
