Not an overly exciting blog today sorry guys. It involves a bus, a wait at a bus station, another bus, then a ferry and another bus. Massive travel day however after 12 hours we have arrived at Roatan Island in the Carribean Sea. The day started with us catching the 7am 'chicken bus' from Copan. A chicken bus is the name given to the old American school buses that for some reason have been acquired by the Central American countries for use as public buses. We had pre-ordered breakfast so were glad when our egg and bacon rolls were handed out. Unfortunately, we had also ordered strawberry smoothies however as the guy was handing them out, 3 of them somehow tipped over and spilt everywhere all over the floor. Even worse was that because I was ... read more

Today we didnt have to meet too early thankfully – 8.30am and 'the bridge'. No one knew where the bridge was as our tour leader hadnt elaborated on 'the bridge'. So we all ended up at Welchez Coffee shop for breakie as Jacob had recommended it. It took ages for food to come out cs we all arrived at similar times so we changed meeting time till 8.45am. We both had an omelette and ben got a smoothie and I had a coffee. All was good and we were stuffed full to start the day. Thankfully as we were debating where the bridge was, our guide for the ruins walked in looking for Jacob and then walked us there himself. He was brilliant. His name was Saul – like China he claimed! He says he learnt ... read more

We were up relatively early this morning for our big travel day out of Guatemala and into Honduras. We were told by our tour guide, Jacob that the coffee shop up the road does good breakfasts. What we didn't factor in was the fact that all our tour group were, of course, going to go to the same place for breaky too. So when we arrived there wasn't actually much food left and because there was only one girl behind the counter serving everyone, she was a little run off her feet! We finally got a couple of lattes and some banana bread to go and rushed back to our waiting minibus. Rach really liked her coffee and said it was one of the best ones she's ever had! We bumped along the cobble stone streets ... read more

We woke up a bit dazed today at 6am realising we had slept pretty much a solid 14 hours! We obviousy needed it! We (well I was) were absolutely starving as we had slept through dinner last night so we got up and changed and quickly headed out to go in search of breakie. We stumbled across a place that had a few people in it which is always a good sign, saw that they did coffee and crepes and we were sold. It was the best breakie we have had in such a long time! I had crepes with nutella, strawberries and banana. It was really rich cos it was lathered in nutella! I was only able to eat half of it but it was so so good.. And ben had crepes with seasonal fruit ... read more

We had to get up really early this morning...like in the 4's to catch the 5.04am train to Newark Airport. We said our goodbyes to Susan who dropped us off at the train station, what an absolute trooper after driving us around the East Coast of the states all week! We made it through the longest security process in history at Newark Airport including having one of those crazy xrays where you have to stand like a teepee. After a quick bite for breakfast (including a sampler at Aunty Anne's pretzels...Rach couldn't buy a full one because she ate too much breaky and wasn't hungry!!) we hopped on our United Airlines flight down to Guatemala City. The flight went pretty quickly and 5 hours later we landed. We had a pretty good run through the airport ... read more

After a full on 4 days in the US we were excited to have a chilled out day today in New Hope! We had a decent sleep in and did a few blogs and I got out of the shower to find my amazing boyfriend by the name of Benjamin had cooked me turkey (again!) sausages and candy pancakes for breakie! An odd combo but yuuuummy! We enjoyed breakie and a coffee and decided to leave Susan to it today for as long as poss and she was battling with her sewing machine and getting a bit stressed as she had to make a Technicolour Coat for Jackie's concert tonight, and it was not co-operating with her! So she dropped us in New Hope and said she would come and pick us up in the arvo ... read more

We had to get up early this morning as we were driving the Washington DC. We left about 7.30am and headed south-west, me in the front seat with directions playing navigator, Rach in the back nice and comfortable with an assortment of bedding for the long road trip. We hit morning peak hour traffic around Philidelphia and crawled through the outskirts of the city. Rach and Susan were amusing themselves creating business venture ideas for daily commuters, including a mobile gymnasium in the back of a semi, and making up ways to ensure the kids wouldn't hurt themselves while the truck was in motion. We had a lot of time to kill on the long journey and Susan filled us in on some American history. It was quite interesting to learn about the civil war between ... read more

We got up and wandered into the kitchen not knowing what Susan concoction we'd be treated to this morning...breakfast burritos (with Turkey sausage). And I must say, it was the best turkey breakfast burrito I've ever had!! That filled us up and ready for our big road trip to Lancaster. We started on the road and reached a lovely little town called “Bird-in-Hand”. Telling you what, the people around here who were charged with giving all the towns names must've been drunk at the time! We pulled into a little souveniur shop and tried a local delicacy, Shoofly Pie. Bizaare name and a bizaare taste – sort of looked like apple pie, sort of tasted like xmas mince pies and a strong honey flavour aswell. We hit the road again and found our destination, the Amish ... read more

We had an amazing sleep last night after recently not actually having the luxury of sleeping in beds! We didnt have orders to be up early this morning so slept till about 8.30, got up, changed and spewed all contents of our packs all over the room and gathered up a mountain of washing to be done. We wandered into the kitchen, got taught how to make coffee with their coffee maker and then got made pancakes with candy and bananas! Very spoilt! We then got in the car and headed to the train station to go to New York for the day! It was freeeezing! We looked at the weather forecast and it said it was currently 1deg and getting to 5!!So cold! So we were completely rugged up as if in Scotland still with ... read more

We both got a decent night's sleep on the plane thanks to the assistance of a couple of sleeping pills. We awoke, had a quick bite of Saudi Arabian airline food and before we knew it we were landing at JFK. We arrived at the passport control area and after standing in line for ages, finally got to the front and were greeted by a power-hungry high horse of an immigration official. First of all, he did not consider Rach and I travelling together a 'family' and required us to fill out separate customs forms, even though we were told on the aeroplane and also by an assistant whilst waiting in line that we'd only need to fill out one. So Rach had to run back and fill out the form exactly the same as me ... read more
