So quite unhappily the front desk rang us at 2.45am for our wake up call!!!! Not 3.45 as we asked which already would have been freaken early!! So after 3 hours sleeping we were awake. Mum rang them and said can they please call us back in an hour. We had just fallen asleep again 10mins later they rang again confused with what we had asked them and then telling us they understood, they rang us back at 4pm – the time our taxi was arriving!! Lucky we were up already – cos none of us went back to sleep!! Good thing was due to the crazy hour of our taxi ride it was quick so we had hours to kill at the airport. We actually had to stand and wait for check in to actually ... read more

We were stoked cos today we had almost a full day till we flew out so could have a day all of us just relaxing by the pool. We got up about 9am and wandered down to breakie to enjoy the buffet style again! Then togs on and down by the gorgeous pools! We started off in the shade actually skyping home – nanny, gramps, Janine and barry – to get all the local goss back home! J Then dad stayed in the shade and mum and I headed for the sun. It was so hot! Ben tells me apparently it was 37deg! So I didn’t last long between swims! I was in and out of the pool like a yo-yo! But was really nice. We then had a break from doing nothing after about 5-6 ... read more

We slept in until after 9am, we must’ve been really tired! After leisurely showering and dressing we wandered down to breakfast...a great assortment to choose from...bacon (quite salty tho) eggs, croissants, fruit, cereals, and a coffee machine...not too bad at all. After breakfast we were off...at least keith and I were off on a day trip on a boat...for someone who feels seasick on a boat moored at the harbour, not a great thought...but, armed with wrist bands that were supposedly going to stop the seasick feeling, off we went, leaving Rach to lie in the sun and catch up on some of the blogs. After being picked up in a bus, we had to weave our way down to the port to catch the boat, down a really steep, really narrow road on the edge ... read more

Europe » Greece » Attica » Athens July 14th 2012

We were up early this am to get a ride to the airport in Rome for our flight to Santorini! Whoop! Mum was very excited as this and Venice were the 2 places she was most looking forward to! We had a verrrry dodgy taxi driver who seemed to be taking pics on his phone of a girl driving next to us! And was trying to keep even with her the while time till she turned off! Very dodge and meant it took a lil while longer with a few diff routes i am sure to get to the airport! But anywho, we got there in 3 pieces J we had to fly to Athens first which only took about an hour and a half and then our flight to santorini took 25 mins! We thought ... read more

Today we had a day full of tours planned! Kate tried to get on our tours but we weren’t sure it was the same tour or not as she had a diff starting point! So ben came and met us at our hotel and kate went off to her meeting point hoping we would meet up somewhere along the way! We got picked up at the hotel by bus and headed to Vatican city for our Vatican tour. Pretty much as soon as we got off the bus we saw kate in her tour and miraculously without us even asking the 4 of us got put with kates group! There were alot of groups so we were just very lucky! The tour was amazing! I had no idea what to expect at all as don’t know ... read more

Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome July 12th 2012

We had quite a relaxed start to the day today cos our train to Rome wasn’t until 12.30pm. So we all met at our hotel and wandered down the road to a place for brunch – as both of our hotels did not have a nice breakie at all! It was delicious! Tarts and croissants and good coffee! We all felt ready to go. We had to stop in at a postcard place for dad who had bought a realy funny postcard for barry and proceeded to write on it allll over the card including the area where you are meant to write the address of the person you are posting it to! He wrote the entire postcard before realising “oh crap where do i put the address?!” So we got him another postcard and monitored ... read more

Europe » Italy » Tuscany » Pisa July 11th 2012

Up again nice and earlyish to get our train to pisa to explore. We had a very average breakie at the hotel this am so were awaiting a good coffee when we arrived. So we wandered to the train station and met ben and kate at the station to catch our train. Took us a while to figure out how to actually buy tickets there but good ol be had it sorted eventually and on we hopped. It was only an hour to get there which flew by, literally with the speed of those trains! When we arrived we had no idea where we were headed cos we expected to see this giant leaning thing in the sky! We did not...so we found coffee! Potentially the most expensively not nice coffee wev had all trip but ... read more

Europe » Italy » Tuscany » Florence July 10th 2012

We all woke up very sad to be saying bye to venice and the aqua palace hotel! What a place! So we had one last breakie at the hotel and then met kate down in the lobby to catch our water taxi to the train station! So much fun! Ah it sux to be leaving this amazing place! We chugged into our parking spot and got our ticket for the train. The trip was pretty fast – 220km/h! And only took about 2 hours to get to Florence. When we arrived we realised how lucky we were again to have ben and kate there to help get us to our hotel! I was still loving the no directional responsibility that I have at the mo! We all walked to Piazza Santa Maria Novella which was supposedly ... read more

Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice July 9th 2012

We awoke after a squeaky night on the world's noisiest sofa bed. We strolled downstairs for our breakfast at the Aqua Palace, which consisted of ham and cheese croissants to which Rach exclaimed "mine tastes like jam" (it wasn't until the next morning we realised the little ones were filled with apricot jam). We also discovered ordering a latte in Italy involves getting a long black and a big jug of milk, and was amused by watching Rach attempt to scoop coffee out of her cup spoonful by spoonful until there was sufficient room to put the milk. We strolled out into the heat to start our days adventures. We made a beeline for Saint Marco square (and didn't get lost) and marvelled at the sight of the tower and buildings surrounding (however was quite disappointed ... read more

Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice July 8th 2012

We were up at 6.30am, which was not ideal, but it was necessary to make sure we caught our plane to Venice. We were looking forward to Venice, as we'd heard so much about it. We decided to catch a taxi to the airport because we would have had to make two train changes with our suitcases if we'd taken the tube. Unfortunately there had been heaps of flooding so it was a VERY slow ride. Still, made it on time, and boarded for this unique little place, Venice. Well, we weren't disappointed, we flew in over the canals, and arrived to a sunny, blue skied day, something we have seen very little of since leaving London! And hot...well over 30 degrees! We walked a few minutes to catch our water taxi to the hotel...awesome! Fell ... read more
