Well I'm writing this the night before I work my last ever shift at The Railway Tavern. Feels very weird to be saying that. I remember being terrified of this place and some of the people here the first day I arrived. Now i've become such good friends with all of them that as much as I want to go it will still be hard to go and even harder to say goodbye to some people. I've already had to say quite a few goodbyes as it is Christmas and people have already left town to go to Perth or else where. A few people will still be here tomorrow. I'm getting ok with goodbyes in the hopes that it's not forever. Ben, the guy living in the pub is leaving to go to Thailand with ... read more

Not much new here. My time is quickly winding down here. 2 weeks to go and i'm getting really excited. I can't wait to be on the road again! But first: CHRISTMAS!!!! Whoooo!!! I have to say, after being away for my second christmas i'm really missing the snow. I know you are all unhappy about the snow and cold but I miss it! Last week, two of the AMMS boys were let go so we had a bit of a party for them at the Railway. That's what all the pictures are from. We had a good night and then went to a house party afterwards. I'm going to really miss the AMMS boys. They have given me a lot of entertainment and i've had fun with them for sure. Hopefully I will still run ... read more

Well, I'm in my last year of being in my 20's now. Can't believe how fast my 20's have gone. I've been very lucky to travel as much as I have in the last few years. I was finally given a day off on my birthday. I slept in and then Kylie and Jade came and took me out for lunch at the other pub. Man it was SO nice to see some other scenery haha. Had a great lunch and then spent the afternoon relaxing. All the AMMS boys came down after work to celebrate with me. Had a good low key kind of night. We shut the pub around 8:30pm and a few of us just sat out the back in the beer garden until 1:30am or so. The countdown until I leave here ... read more

On Sunday we had a huge storm blow into town. In the distance we could see the red dirt in the clouds. Out of no where the wind just picked up and we had a massive wind storm. Our doormats outside the pub went flying down the street. A tree across the street from the pub cracked and half of it fell over. Then our power went out. It was a pretty cool storm. Some thunder and lightning throughout the evening. The power came back on almost 2 hours later. The bosses went out of town again this week and left me in charge of everything. I had to do all the banking, do the post office stuff, pick up a few things in town and do all the beer orders. Kind of full on for ... read more

Hello everyone! Life in the Southern Cross is still just as crazy. Last week I did 65 hours and i'm wiped! But because i'm always working and the locals seem to love me I have about $250 in my tip jar even though they don't tip in Australia. Go me!!! I have an 82 year old Scottish guy named Alex chasing after me when he comes into the pub. I also have a 72 year old named Jim who is head over heels for me haha. He owns the tire service shop in town and has suddenly been coming into the pub almost every night. Last night he asked me to go for a drive with him so we could have a kiss and a cuddle hahaha. Another guy, Skeeta who just became a grandpa is ... read more

I know it's been a while since I've updated this blog. Lately I have been so busy working that I dont have any time to myself. Jo, the other barmaid left almost 2 weeks ago and the owners have decided not to replace her to cut back on wages and I've been happy enough to pick up as many hours as I can. The first week Jo left I worked 50 hours, this last week I picked up 60 hours. It's been a bit full on and when i'm not sleeping, i'm in the pub working. It's been great money wise but not much of a life haha. But working in the pub is very social so it's not that bad. The last two weekends we have had an event on and i've been working the ... read more

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and ate way too much! Not too much new here in Southern Cross. Our skimpy missed the train on thursday morning so we didn't have a skimpy on Thursday night so I ended up working. The other girl who works on Thursday night, Kylie, decided not to work as it was her birthday so it was a big night for me all on my own. Turned out to be a good night though. As there was no skimpy I got more attention then I wanted haha. Note to self, leaving your hand on the bar is not a good idea. Guys here take that as a sign you want them to hold your hand haha....NOT!!!! Ah well, I ended up going to a house party after I finished work ... read more

Well i've really started to get to know some locals, guys that come in quite a bit. One of my fav regulars, Dan, is a kiwi but has been over here and all over the world for a long time. Anyways, he's 38 years old and has just retired. He's got it pretty good! Sadly though, he's left Southern Cross which sucks for me, he was really nice! Jo and I had a night off together as a local girl works the bar with the skimpy ( a girl in lingerie behind the bar) on Thursday nights. Skimpy's are a big part of history out in this area because of all the goldmines, the miners needed some entertainment back in the day. So, the pubs hire girls called Skimpies who come out to the country pubs ... read more

Well, here I am in Southern Cross, population: 1000. There is nothing around here but mines, farms and desert. My new boss Jo was at the train station to pick me up when I arrived. She drove me into town and took me to the local coffee shop. Not much variety here my friends. Then she drove me to the Railway Tavern, my new home. It's an old pub, about 100 years old. Above the pub are 9 rooms. There is only 2 girls bathrooms in the whole place. One in the pub and one upstairs. My room isn't very big but it's all mine and I dont have to share it with anyone. I met the other barmaid who is also named Jo. She is an english backpacker but is here on her second year ... read more
