While Sarah and Jason were at work I headed up to the Red Hill Lookout which is in Kambalda. You can see the big salt lakes from up there. Kambalda is split into two parts, Kambalda East and Kambalda West. I did a little drive around to check out the place. I picked Sarah up from work and then we picked up the girls from daycare. On Saturday we decided to head into Kalgoorlie to do some shopping. Jason was working this weekend. So Sarah, me, Lucinda and Isobel had a girls day shopping around the town. We stopped at Mt. Charlotte lookout which is also where the town's water supply is piped into. Lucinda had a great time with my camera taking tons of pictures. We had lunch in town at the cafe which was ... read more

I was up at 5am to catch my train from East Perth at 7 am to Kalgoorlie. Checked my big backpack and then boarded the train. It's a pretty modern train. I ended up having a seat to myself but the train was mostly full. It stops at some small outback towns along the way. I watched one of the movies they had on the screens and fell asleep for a bit but the rest of the time I was just looking out the window at the countryside. I didn't get to see any Kangaroos bouncing through the outback. The train stops in Southern cross so I caught a glimpse at my new home. The town is set back in the trees away from the train stop so I didn't get to see much which means ... read more

I'm getting really excited to get to Southern Cross to start my country pub job. I don't start until Sept 21 though. Today was really sunny out so I decided to hop on the train and go to Cottesloe Beach. Heath Ledger grew up in this area of Australia and this was the beach he apparently hung out at a lot. It's a gorgeous beach as you can tell from the pictures. It wasn't very busy as I was there in the middle of a working day. I stuck my foot in the water and it was freezing! I did see a couple of people swimming but not for very long haha. When I got home I had a message from my cousin Sarah who lives in Kambalda, close to Southern Cross. So I gave her ... read more

Well, after another week of not working I treated myself to the zoo. I did however go to an interview with yet another recruitment agency. Same old same old. She liked me and my resume but I haven't heard anything back from her. I applied to another recruitment agency as well. But the sun was sort of shining so I headed to the zoo to cheer me up. I love animals and Perth has a pretty good zoo. I saw lots of cool animals like the Tree Kangaroo, SO cute! Loads of Kangaroos aren't in a cage but they are all so lazy they just lay there staring at you. But really, a zoo is a zoo anywhere you are. It was a good 3 hours of my day spent walking around in the sun. On ... read more

Hey everyone, Yes yes, it's been a while since you've heard from me. Sorry, but my life isn't that exciting right now. When i'm not sleeping I'm looking for a job and it's soooooo boring. After saying bye to my irish flatmates, Leahanne came and picked me up to take me to the airport. I couldn't ask for a better friend while I am over here. 4 hours and a nap later I arrived in Perth. Lucky me for having such awesome friends as Kevin was there to pick me up. Kevin and I met back in Ireland as well. He drove us in through Perth and along the Swan River. Perth is SO much smaller then Melbourne but it's super nice and very sunny and a lot warmer!!! We drove along some of the coastline ... read more

Well, for the last week and a half I sat on my butt trying hard not to spend any money and not getting any calls for work! I walked down to the beach a couple of days when the sun came out but that never lasted long enough and it's been raining most of the week at some point in the day. Finally on Wednesday I got a call for work that day so I rushed in to the City to work for the City of Melbourne again. This time I was helping out with Melbourne Spring Fashion week. I have been helping the Events Coordinators organize volunteers for the fashion shows and things. I have put in a ton of hours in only 3 days. I worked from noon until 8pm the first night, 8:30am ... read more

Well, I've had some ups and downs since i've moved to Australia. Leahanne and her roomie Karen were so awesome for letting me stay with them as long as I did but it was time to move on. I found a backpacker apartment to move into in the same area as Leahanne. It's an agency that has a couple of apartments and rents them out to backpackers and puts small groups and singles together. So, I went to check them out and while they aren't the greatest of places it will do in the meantime. Because it's winter these apartments aren't full at the moment. I moved in on Monday to a 2 bedroom apartment. am in the larger room which has 3 single beds in it but lucky for me, no one else is in ... read more

Since I am temping there are many days that I am not actually working which is frustrating to say the least. But everyday I keep trying and trying. Sunday was a really sunny warm looking day out and Leahanne was off to spend some time with her family so I decided to head down to St Kilda beach. It's obviously too cold to go swimming. I headed down the famous Acland Street and went past Luna Park and found a pier. It was so beautiful down there but really really windy which made it a tad chilly. I sat along the waterfront and people watched for a bit. On Sundays there is a craft/art market along the waterfront area as well so I looked through that. They have lots of cool little things and some really ... read more

So Leahanne got us tickets to an AFL game. Her mom is a huge Carlton supporter and they were playing Collingwood on Saturday. So the three of us headed down to the MCG stadium. It was pure craziness down there. Thing Stanley cup finals crowd wise....soooo many people. These Aussies love their Aussie football. Melbourne is a city really into sports. There is something like 20 or 30 stadiums here i'm guessing haha. Anyways, we headed in and found our seats. The crowd was announced later on at 76, 980. Thats insane!!!! It's a very confusing game but everyone was really into it. I started really getting into it in the end. We were cheering for Carlton. But our team didn't really show up and we were getting our butts kicked! It's a really interesting sport, ... read more

So I've been making my way around Melbourne working here and there at a few temp jobs that are only for 2 or 3 days a week. It's keeping me alive here but i'm still trying to get full time hours which are only 37.5 here instead of our 40 hours. I went into the city the other day and went to the mall in town called Melbourne Central. There is an old building that instead of ripping down they have just built the mall around. Pretty interesting and now stores are inside the building as well. I spent an hour or so at Borders which is like Chapters. On the friday Leahanne had the day off so we went shopping at the factory outlet mall. I needed a pair of nicer shoes for interviews here ... read more
