So Leahanne got us tickets to an AFL game. Her mom is a huge Carlton supporter and they were playing Collingwood on Saturday. So the three of us headed down to the MCG stadium. It was pure craziness down there. Thing Stanley cup finals crowd wise....soooo many people. These Aussies love their Aussie football. Melbourne is a city really into sports. There is something like 20 or 30 stadiums here i'm guessing haha. Anyways, we headed in and found our seats.
The crowd was announced later on at 76, 980. Thats insane!!!! It's a very confusing game but everyone was really into it. I started really getting into it in the end. We were cheering for Carlton. But our team didn't really show up and we were getting our butts kicked! It's a really interesting sport, hard to describe, kind of like rugby, soccer and our football all in one haha. If you get a chance check it out!
I've still just been temping here and there but i've done quite a few interviews. I am registered with 3 temp agencies for administration/reception work. I just registered with a scientific recruitment agency. She told me that she didn't have
any specific jobs to put me forward for but she wanted to send my name and details to a couple of companies to see if they need any temp help. Fingers crossed!
I applied to a lab job in Sydney that said that they welcome working holiday makers to apply. So there is a little hope. I am seeing lots of lab jobs being posted in Perth and Brisbane so I might have to make a choice and head to one of those places.
I've talked to Miriam and her sister Janet lives up on the Gold coast but she wont be in Australia for a bit as her daughter Katie is competing in the States for swimming and training in Singapore. We will see if I get a chance to meet her.
For those interested:
Income is very good here. For my temp jobs doing reception I was making $23/hour which is almost what I was making back home as a lab tech. However, it's expensive to live here. Food isn't that expensive but rent is astronomical. I'm very lucky and grateful that i've been able to stay with Leahanne for as long as I
have been. To share a 2 bedroom apartment with 4 other girls it will cost me $150/week which is $600/month roughly. That's for sharing a room.
To find a room on my own i'm looking at about $200 to $220/week which is way out of my budget if I want to save any money. So i'm stressing out about all of that and trying to get steady work. I've just come down with a bit of a cold and I think it's from all the stress i've been putting on myself. But I'll get better and keep plugging away.
