I check out at 10am and headed over to the train station as my train wasn't until 11:55am I had to wait a bit. Turns out Jo was also there as her bus left from the same station and she is on her way to another country pub. So we got to have a hug and say goodbye again. No matter how many goodbyes I go through they never get any easier. I hopped on the train and was asked to switch seats with a guy as he wanted to sit next to his gf so that was ok. I had a seat to myself until we got to Kalgoorlie. The train zoomed past Southern Cross one last time for me. I made sure to wave. I'm in the red service cars and while they aren't ... read more

I spent most of today packing up and organizing my things to take on the train. I walked into town and ran a few last errands and then I headed out to Freo to have a last visit with Kevin. We stopped at his fav pub for a drink and a nibble and then we headed over to the beach to watch the sunset over the ocean. It was so beautiful! I am so glad that I came over to Western Australia. I met some of the most amazing people and worked in a place way out of my comfort zone. I've made some lifelong friends and learnt a lot about myself. Working in a country pub was one of the best things I've ever done for myself. It gave me a huge confidence boost and ... read more

This morning we went to check out the Margaret river surfing beach. The waves weren’t so good and no one was out surfing. So, we headed to the Aboriginal culture centre. Our guide took us around the bush and showed us all the different uses of the different trees. It was amazing to find out all the medicinal uses of these trees. What I really liked is that instead of killing the trees they just took what they needed from the trees. After the bush walk we got to learn about all the tools aboriginals used. He explained about boomerangs and how they used all kinds of stuff from nature to make knives. It was really cool. He showed us how easily he could make a fire without any matches. That was really cool. He then ... read more

Up early again and we were off to Albany. We went up to a lookout to see some amazing views and then over to some rock formations on the coast called “The gap” and “The natural bridge”. Really beautiful spot that reminded me a lot of Ireland. From there we headed to Walpole to do the tree top walk. We were about 40 meters up in the sky and the trees were still way above us. That was really cool. We also went to the bicentennial tree which has these spikes in it that you can climb up to the top. The tree is about 72 meters up. I only went up a little bit but it was a bit scary to come down. There is no net and if you slip there is nothing to ... read more

This morning we got up and drove over to the Flinder’s range. Here we drove up to the car park and did a hike. It was a tough one. Me and one of the other girls took it really slow and only made it about 3/4 of the way up. It was just sooo hot and very steep. Beautiful views from up there though. We then had lunch and headed down and drove through the ranged before getting to our camp on a farm that had facilities. We were all so happy to have a shower. We had an awesome dinner and some more good chats. ... read more

Up early this morning and One group was doing a longer harder hike and the other group was doing the Frenchman’s peak hike which although it was shorter was straight up a mountain. I decided to do the Frenchman’s peak hike. Surprisingly I was able to make it up the mountain. I just went slow and took my time. There is no set path up the mountain but there are markers to show you which way to go. It was not easy as some parts were really steep. After the hike we headed back to the campsite to wait for the others to get back. We had lunch and then headed off. We stopped in Esperance again and then we were off to a bush camp. Basically a bush camp has no facilities or anything. It ... read more

We cruised down to the seaside town of Esperance this morning. We got there just before lunch. It was nice and sunny but very windy there. We all explored the town and me and an english girl on the tour stopped for a drink by the ocean. Sooo nice! After we explored we all hopped back onto the bus and we drove out to Cape Le Grande National Park. Our camp was next to the most stunning beach I’ve ever seen. The whitest sand you will ever see and the water is the most amazing blue water. The sand is mostly silica so it’s soft and white and it squeaks when you walk on it. As we were setting up camp a small kangeroo came to check us out and look for food. While we aren’t ... read more

I was up early this morning and ready to go for my tour. THe bus came and picked me up at 7am. We had a pretty full bus of 15 people. I sat next to an aussie lady who was from Darwin. A lady infront of us was from Slovenia so I had a good chat to her about where my relatives are from there and she knew the area which was really cool. As we drove out of Perth we made our first stop in a town called York. It’s a small historical town with all kinds of cute old buildings. We continued on our way and stopped at a small town for some gas and we made it maybe 15 km out of town when our bus decided to break down. It was so ... read more

Happy new year to you all! I've started 2011 with quite a bang. I spent the last few days at Sarah's house mainly at the swimming pool. We met up Sarah's friend and her kids and we all had a good time in the water. Isobel (Sarah's youngest) loved jumping into our arms from the ledge. She didn't want to get in the water at first but then she loved jumping in. Lucinda is a good swimmer as well. New Years Eve was a bit quieter. Sarah and I mad a bunch of nibbly food like Sushi, nachos and pizza. Sarah was so tired she couldn't hang on until midnight but I stayed up and talked to people on the phone. On my last day with Sarah we got to go out to the Kalgoorlie golf ... read more

Merry Christmas to everyone!!! My last days in Southern Cross were really good and a bit sad saying bye to everyone. I was definitely ready to get out of such a small town. I worked my last shift and then everyone came down to the pub in the evening. Jo had made a leaving banner for me so everyone that came signed it with a little message for me. It was awesome. Kylie, the skimpy from the club (a canadian girl), Jo, Stevo and me all sat up on the back balcony after closing the pub and had a few drinks and just had a chat. It was really awesome. The next morning i finished packing up all my stuff and Kylie and her son Jayden took me to the train station. Kylie and I cried ... read more
