Today was the big St Kilda Festival. All week and weekend long there has been a few things going on with lots of bands playing at the pubs in the area and an outdoor cinema on the rooftop of a building on the beach. But Sunday was the big day with the main event. My friend Jess who lives in Bendigo (a couple hours from Melbourne) came into Melb for it. I met up with her at the tram stop. It's a free street festival, all the roads in the area are shut to traffic. There were a couple of good buskers out putting performances on. All the pubs, cafes and bars in he area have a patio and they were all full with people. Down on the beach they had the main stage set up ... read more

We decided to be big kids today and headed to Rainbow's End, Auckland's theme park. It was an overcast day but still quite warm out and a bit humid. Since it was a weekday the park wasn't as busy so we rarely had to wait in any lines which was great! We went on the pirate ship ride, then went on two different kinds of go-karts which was a ton of fun! No crashing either! So proud of myself for that. Haha. We went to a ride in goldrush town which is cool, you walk through this underground mine then you get into an old mining car and it's a rollercoaster that takes you through a mine haha. Sooo much fun! They also have a log ride but they call it a log flume which I ... read more

Pete owed me a day at the zoo from the last time I was in New Zealand so today was the day! We drove over to the zoo and I was really excited. I love animals so much and getting to see them in their habitats. There is a little Aussie walkabout there that you go through and there is kangaroos, wallabies and emus roaming around. That was pretty cool. Pete and I had a good day out at the zoo and enjoyed the sun as it was out. Enjoy the pics!... read more

Pete wanted to take me to MOTAT today which stands for the Museum of transport and technology. It reminded me a bit of Heritage park. There are a few old buildings and cottages that have been moved to the site. An school house as well. Some old fire trucks and the first tram cars in NZ. Lots of neat little exhibits on kiwi life. They have an old tram car that still runs and takes you past the zoo to the other part of MOTAT where the airplanes are kept. So we rode that over and checked out the planes. It was a really fun day and because it was Auckland Day we got in for half price. Later in the evening they had fireworks over the harbour to celebrate Auckland day which was really cool. ... read more

Pete came and picked me up bright and early to get to the drag races. We had to drive an hour out of Auckland to a place called Meremere where the races were being held at a race track. There were tons of cars there already when we got there at 9:30am. Parked the car and headed over to the track. We stood near the starting point where the cars do 10-15 seconds of burnouts to warm up their tires so they stick to the road better. Then the 2 cars line up side by side and wait for the green light and race down the track. It was really cool to see. Some of the cars were really old but you could tell they have new souped up motors in them. Some cars were top ... read more

After a slight delay with my plane I finally arrived in Auckland. A bit of confusion at the airport but I finally found Pete and we drove to the hostel. Mom was outside when we pulled up and it was great to see her and get a Mom hug. She already had the key to my room so I threw my stuff in and found dad. Great to get a dad hug too. After a quick change Pete drove us down to the skytower. We showed mom and dad around the casino and they we were allowed to go up to the skydeck to have a look around. They have glass floors up there to stand on. A bit freaky but I did it, my legs were shaking though! We took the elevator up a bit ... read more

Today is Australia day here in Oz. Kind of like our Canada day. So everyone had the day off of work. Leahanne and I got ready while we waited for some of Leahanne's friends to come over. We had a few pre drinks at her house with everyone before walking down to the park by the beach. Leahanne's new flatmate Dave works at a restaurant and they put on a bbq in the park for them and we got to go along. We spent the afternoon in the park having a few drinks and just chatting away. We made our way back to Leahanne's around 10pm and just hung out there for a bit longer. Some people had to work in the morning and I have a plane to catch in the morning so we made ... read more

Leahanne and I hopped into the car and headed out of Melbourne city to the seaside town of Portsea. We drove all along beach road which is right on the coast of Morington Peninsula. Amazing views the whole way down. We drove up to a place called Arthur's seat for a view down along the coast. AMAZING! We were 200 and some meters up. We continued on down to Portsea. We stopped for lunch at the Portsea pub. We sat outside overlooking the coast. Had an amazing lunch and then we stopped at a place called Sorrento beach. Beautiful beach but the waves were pretty big. We stopped in Frankston on the way back to the city to see leahanne's friends Anita and George. Well we were up at 6am and got all packed up and walked over to the bus station for our bus out to the train station. We got there with plenty of time. Catriona and I weren't seated next to each other but the nice lady next to her let me swap seats with her so we could sit with each other. We were seated in front of and next to a young family with 3 kids. The parents clearly couldn't control their kids and it was quite annoying! At one point the little girl pulled my hair while I was trying to sleep. The dad kept leaving to the buffet car so he didn't have to deal with it. Gee thanks mister!!!! We arrived into Adelaide at 7:30am. After getting our bags we found the skybus which would take us into the city. We were told to make sure that our train was going the next day due to the Victoria floods. So we ran inside and checked and the train would be running as far as they knew. The rail tracks are elevated above the water at the moment. So we headed into the city and Catriona and I were already booked into the same hostel so that was awesome. We put our bags in storage as the room wasn't ready yet and along with another girl from the train who was also staying at the YHA we walked into town. Adelaide is a really pretty city. The tallest building is 34 stories. There are no skyscrapers ... read more
