After a slight delay with my plane I finally arrived in Auckland. A bit of confusion at the airport but I finally found Pete and we drove to the hostel. Mom was outside when we pulled up and it was great to see her and get a Mom hug. She already had the key to my room so I threw my stuff in and found dad. Great to get a dad hug too. After a quick change Pete drove us down to the skytower. We showed mom and dad around the casino and they we were allowed to go up to the skydeck to have a look around. They have glass floors up there to stand on. A bit freaky but I did it, my legs were shaking though! We took the elevator up a bit further to The Orbit restaurant which is a restaurant that revolves around so you get all the views of the city.
We had a great meal and some wine and got all caught up with my parents. Pete fit in really well and mom and dad liked him. Pete took us back to the hostel and mom and dad went straight to bed as
I think the jetlag finally kicked in form their long flight.
The next morning I took mom and dad to get some breakfast and then we headed across the harbour to Davenport. We sat up at the top of Mount Victoria overlooking davenport. You can also see Rangitoto island from here. It was quite a cloudy day out but still quite warm. So we decided to head up to Mount Eden which is an old volcano and has a crater. It just started to rain when we got there.
From there we decided to head to Half Moon bay. It was pouring out by the time we got there but dad spotted a couple of fishermen. He got out and had a little talk with them while mom and I stayed in the car. Mom read something about a scenic drive so we headed over to that. But, the clouds were so low we didn't get to see much of the valleys or the scenery. By this time dad was getting tired of driving so we headed to a supermarket to get some supplies and headed back to the hostel.
After a couple of beers we headed
over to Burger Fuel. It's a burger place here on the north island in NZ. They make gourmet burger so I introduced mom and dad to them. Dad tried the Ford Freakout, mom had the Biofuel and I had the Bacon backfire. YUM! I got them to try Kumara chips (like sweet potatoes) and L&P which is a NZ soft drink.
Pete met up with us after dinner and we played some cards and had a few good laughs. Dad did good driving on the other side of the road and car. He only got beeped at a few times and I think he was starting to get the hang of it. He was starting to remember not to turn on the wipers instead of the signal lights too hahaha. They are off to the Bay of islands tomorrow so hopefully the weather clears up!
