Left-leaning
The governing Socialist party led by Evo Morales has governed the country since 2006, following the first ever majority victory by a single party. I think the main reason US tourist numbers in Bolivia, and South America generally, have dropped off, is the implementation of reciprocal visa fees applying to Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and until very recently, Chile. Those 500 bucks will influence a tourist’s behaviour more than the political leaning of the government.

Thanks for your comment...
Our guide, Juan, kept mentioning 2009...perhaps that was the date where reforms were enacted. I agree that a country that has a mostly Indian population should be represented by an Indian and that the land reforms that give the land back to those who work it as opposed to the privileged who have controlled Bolivian society and politics should have these reforms. But you can do reforms without being unfriendly to those who wish to visit your country. And as for reciprocal visa charges, I wish the U.S. government would take the first step and stop charging tourists from those countries. I wonder whether Brazil will do so for the 2016 Olympics.

Tara, Linda and Bob on the Altaplano

A fabulous day!
Camera, umbrellas and possessions may come and go, but travelblogging friends are forever! It was great that we had lots of time in the car and at lunch to get to know each other--it seemed we packed in more than a day's worth of fine time getting to know each other. You two are on quite an adventure--and still more to come. See you sometime in your beautiful Colorado! And I love this photo of the three of us--good show!

TARA IS No. 1 GUIDE
Fantastic you met up with Tara. Surprised you refer to another as your Guide, she being known to many as Number 1 Guide, but I guess she does not need the title while guiding you guys. Another TB event of discovery...well done.

Moon Valley

Sounds like fun
I am glad you were able to spend some time with Tara. I know I really enjoy her company. It is fun to follow along with you and see how you are seeing and doing your trip and the differences in it from mine. It sounds like you are having fun and your pictures are great. I really like the one of the 3 of you.

Grand adventures and travel blog gatherings!
Fantastic that you were able to get together for a day. Tragic that the camera is lost but hopefully soon it will be replaced. I'm sorry to hear that people from the U.S. have decreased their visits to Bolivia and it is rich in history and beauty. One day we will get there!

Fine times!
How great that you're learning so much, enjoyed your time in magical Machu Picchu and got to have that fabled buffet! As others have said, that's a great new photo of you two!

Steps Steps Steps
Bob and Linda, I am proud of you for going up and down all of those steps. They are not easy to navigate, as you both know, and seem to go on much longer than it looks from the ground. Great blog and great pictures. I am looking forward to following the rest of this trip.

Wow
I am thoroughly enjoying being back in Peru via your blogs. It sounds as if you are having a great time and meeting some nice people. Your new profile picture is amazing. When I saw it, I wanted to comment on it, but saw that D&MJ had already done so. Enjoy the rest of your time down in SA.

Great photo!
I can't figure out how to comment on the photo itself, but what a lovely photo of you both at Machu Picchu! Definitely a profile pic! What a fascinating place it is, I can't wait to visit one day.

Glad you enjoyed Machu Picchu
Good to hear that you are enjoying Peru. It was one of our favourite places. I guess that by the time a worker had spent 20 years lugging those massive rocks around at that altitude thay may not have had much life left.

Great to hear from you...
your trip was an inspiration for ours.

Machu Picchu
One of our favorite places in the world. We went there to celebrate my 50th birthday so my present was a night in the hotel at the top. It was amazing. After all the tour buses had left there were a few of us sitting and enjoying the ancient site until they kicked us out. I felt something there I still cannot describe. Looking forward to seeing more of your trip.

Ollabtaytambo
As we climbed to the top I kept hoping the view would be worth it and it was. All the great stuff to look at is always up a few hundred steps. Your A frame sounded nice. I enjoyed the Peruvian food although I'm not eating the guinea pig again.

Even die hard environmentalists drive a car.
Logical fallacy: false analogy. Still made me laugh!

Hahaha love the title of this blog
I also called it "sexy women" for a while... its just easier that way! I am glad you discovered that every guide has his own version of things in Cusco, we also felt the same way! Hope you enjoy the rest of your touring, especially the food part of it!!
11th May 2014

My title was also an experiment...
to see if the word sexy generates a huge number of hits. Not only to guides have a different view of facts, spelling also varies. For example Cusco is also spelled Cuzco. And Sacsayhuaman can also be spelled Saqsayhuaman. As there was no Inca or any other tribal written language, many words and names are just assigned by scholars. Thanks for your comment!
