Geo: 51.1922, -2.36139We drove down from London a little despondent as our paperwork for the car was still not back from customs who in their wisdom decided to send it second class royal mail, which probably should be named second rate royal mail. Given it is not possible for us to leave the country in the car without it we were more than a little anxious when it did not turn up by the allotted time. Regardless we headed down to Cousin Bevs which is an amazing little village, surrounded by lush green pastures right in the middle of crop circle country and in the right season so we have been studying the fields as we drive. This area is not noted for its wide, straight roads and hence we feel like we have been making ... read more

Geo: 51.5085, -0.12574It is a very well known Buddhist proverb that a journey of 1000 miles starts with a single step. That step was a tram ride to Wimbledon, a train to South Hampton, well two really as we got on the wrong one to start with and then a wait for he correct train, followed by a short walk to the docks to get our car out of the shipping container. The UK was very organised, we arrived at the nominated time and there was a container on a truck with a couple of guys waiting for us. They opened the container, removed the packing wood, untied it and Darren connected the battery. The car fired up no problems and Darren backed it down the ramp out of the container.Awesome, looked just like the day ... read more

Geo: -7.83075, 112.697 After a 10 hour taxi ride we arrived inBukit Lawang which is the access point to the Orangutang forest. Onarrival a couple of chaps helped us carry our baggage... thankfullybecause On The Rocks, unlike Nepal where Everest View Hotel is nearthe Indian border, is up a steep climb of nicely laid out steps to aplace that can only be described as paradise in the jungle. The placeis right on the edge of the jungle border and has a collection of 4bungalows made in the traditional style arranged in a secluded layoutwhere you can parade around naked, if it takes your fancy. When theafternoon monsoon rain fell it took my fancy…. During our firstnight in the Bungalow we were attacked by a butterfly that had a wingspan the size of my hands..we both hit ... read more

Geo: 2.66785, 98.857The last morning in KTM was well planned $400NPR for the taxi to the airport and $300NPR for breakfast. All went well and as the plane turned towards Singapore we were able to see the snow capped Himalaya clearly as opposed to the slightly grey appearance of the smog of KTM.We arrived in Singapore quite late and booked into the Crown Plaza transit hotel in Terminal 2 as we had a very early flight to Indonesia the following morning and could not believe the quality of the room.. had both a bath and a shower for no other reason than we could. Hot water and clean white sheets with soft fluffy pillows and a TV and….. oh it was a nice change. Specific good points:1. The toilet seat did not swivel off the toilet ... read more

Geo: 27.7029, 85.3182Wow what a crazy time has been had since the decision to pack up and head back Oz. The house packing seemed simple enough however Nepal came to the party and had a nation wide Bandha which translates to nothing is open and no traffic moves.. Yep no joke the whole country came to a standstill for the whole day for a reason that still baffles me so i wont go into it.... Long story short Gyanu from NAMUNA agreed to help move our stuff on the Tuseday so we could head to Phokara to off load the bike with Nathan at Bullet Base Camp and renew our now nealry expired visa.We had advertised the bike on a KTM web site and again long story short a Nepali chap convinced me he would buy ... read more

Geo: 27.5, 83.45For those who are not yet aware the project has run into a sand bank. We didnt really have all the compnents needed to do the project onboard which was the reason we ran aground and hence don't have any choice but to head home. We will head home via Sumatra to kill some time as flights are not readily available at this time of year. If you are wondering how we feel about the situation I can only refer to a conversation I had with a Buddhist Monk of all people. As you are travelling you probably feel that you are out of your comfort zone. I agreed that this was the case. Here in East the people have much physical suffering. There is often not enough food, clothing or a warm shelter ... read more

Geo: 27.5798, 84.4971NEPAL for those who don't know the country title stands for Never Ending Politics And Loadsharing. The government is currently attempting to revamp the Constitution and re-caste the states. What this means for us is increasingly less power, increasingly more bandahs as any one of the seven political parties decides to throw their weight around and this last week we can add a complete lack of petrol. The road from Kathmandu to Bhairawha passes through an area that had a bandah (was in complete lockdown) the day before and by all accounts they were vandalising vehicles so we played it a bit cautiously and travelled the old road to Hetuanda and stopped off at Chitawan National Park where we knew we could get some reliable advice about the road ahead. The Nepalese view the ... read more

Geo: 27.9392, 84.4168Given our late departure from Bhairahawa because of the fire we decided to stop half way to Kathmandu in a lovely little town that does not allow cars or motorcycles to drive in the main street. Firstly we could not believe this to be true given the rest of Nepal, however it was reality. Little coffee stalls and a slate paved road fantastic views of the Annapurna Range which looked very impressive in the afternoon sun. It was the first real view of the Snow since our arrival, normally the view is clouded with a slight mist. The road to Bandipur was a single width road that climbed steeply fro 8 kms from the valley floor withnumersour switch backs. Geo: 28.3949, 84.124I awoke to the sound of our pump kicking in and commotion upstairs. It did not sound too good so I jokingly asked Darren "Do you think we need to evacuate" Rather annoyed with me for waking he slowly climbs out of bed, gets dressed and heads out the front. Comes back two seconds later saying Yes our house is on fire. With that I leapt our of bed, got dressed, threw on both our money belts containing passports and am out the front door before Darren has a chance to tell me “Don't Panic” Seriously what part of the house is on fire should not result in panic. We have a couple of Nepalese orphans living upstairs and smoke was billowing out of their room. It is the one house but they live upstairs ... read more
