Geo: -25.7704, 32.6864 to panic.. it went on like this for some time. Low range was engaged and the tyres let down. All the time there was still no signs indicating we were going the correct way. (we have taken some video). Thankfully the GPS indicated we were still generally heading north which in this case this was good. The map we had loaded on the GPS indicated a road would start somewhere up ahead.. I was slightly sceptical and we stopped to ask some cattle Sheppard (yes I know a Sheppard is for sheep what do you call a cattle herder!!) After some time of repeating the name of the capital Mapito with various different inflections (trying to make it sound Portuguese) the chaps pointed straight ahead.. so off we went.. after 500mts on a ... read more

Geo: -26.8982, 32.8821South African caravan parks are wonderful, providing you can traverse the track in. Note the warning sign on the way in. This was the last sign for some time and unbeknown to us we veered left when we should have veered right at the crest of a sand hill. Well bugger me if the track didn't degrade into something bad, the funny thing was the Hubs were not locked thus I could not grab 4WD, if we stopped we definitely were not going to go forward even with the hubs locked … the Shorty came through with the goods, foot down and get the Mickey Thompsons digging until flat firm ground was found. How they tow boats down here I will never know. The biggest surprise was to find a caravan park down the end, ... read more

Geo: -28.1253, 32.0718We stopped in the most gorgeous tented Camp in Hluhuwe Umfolzi National Park. We were not allowed to stay in our roof top tent but had a permanent on suite tent with outdoor kitchen raised off the ground about a metre. Africa adds a whole new meaning to spot lighting. You are not permitted to drive after dark but we hopped on a the back of an open "backie" (ute) and driven around by a guard complete with large shot gun. We spotted a number of animals going about their business including a family of white rhino, elephants and hienna. Quite surreal really. Sitting eating dinner after our night drive the hienna's wandered around the tent and looked straight up at us. It was clear that anything we had left in the car were ... read more

Geo: -29.7167, 31.0667Mission successfully accomplished. We have the Shorty!!!! Yeh Yeh, yes we are excited. It would appear that along the way the battery died and someone has attempted to jump it across both batteries using a 24 Volt supply which would have been quite exciting. One of the terminals has suffered a bit of boot damage but otherwise the car is in one piece. Darren's makeshift security barrier worked like a treat, there was evidence that someone had been trying to get into the back but failed so everything was intact.South Africa has so far completely blown us away with its friendliness. Nothing is too much trouble for anyone, our guest house has been an absolute pleasure, customs clearance started out a little tricky until one guy took charge and basically pushed us up the ... read more
