Today we ventured outside of the city of Quebec. Our first stop was the Parc De La Chute-Montmorency just outside of the city. These waterfalls can be seen from the main road and really are a bit of a tourist trap but you dont know that at the time! Cost us $32 to park the car and go up a short cable car ride up the mountain to see the falls. If you don't want to go up in the cable car you can walk up the 487 steps to the top. The stairs are anchored to the cliff side and from the stairs you are meant to hear the full force of the falls. There is supposed to be a guide to talk about the falls on the ride up but we never saw one. ... read more

Weather is definitely colder here In Quebec...time to bring out the warmer clothing again. We have found that the locals here are more willing to speak in English - could be because of the large amount of tourists they receive via cruise lines. In any case the language barrier is not what is was in Montreal. Slept soundly in our king size bed here at the Best Western - certainly a change to sleeping in the RV...even better is the ability to soak in a hot bath - how you miss the simple things in life when on the road. It was cloudy and raining lightly this morning when we left the hotel for our walk up to Old Quebec - but it wasn't enough to ruin our plans. Walked through Place D'Youville again only today ... read more

Hotel 7 Saison may not have been the flashest hotel on the block but we would stay there anytime over a Hilton or similar. The place had character and the staff were such good value. Real people who enjoyed a joke and a chat. Last night Geoff and I spent several hours chilling with the hotel staff - great night with plenty of laughs...oh and by the way they moved us to another room as they were unable to fix the hot water problem today. Left Montreal around 9am after breakfast at the hotel and arrived in Quebec City around 11.30am. Drove straight to our hotel - Best western Plus Downtown $78 per night. We are here for 3 nights. There is valet parking here $22 per day including in/out privileges - not much choice with ... read more

Beautiful sunny warm day here in Montreal - fantastic weather for Thanks Giving Weekend. Had a good breakfast down in the foyer of the hotel. The receptionist told us she got robbed last night as she was walking down the Main Street. Someone grabbed her handbag and took off. Nobody helped her and you could see she was distressed about the incident - and the police were not interested about it one bit! So here I was thinking that Montreal felt like a very safe city - but I guess it's no different to anywhere you travel -Geoff went and checked on our rental car - all good - sigh of relief! Then she tells us that 3 weeks ago a 72 year old lady was stabbed to death outside the IGA - that's it we ... read more

Another beautiful fall day here in Montreal..it's cold overnight but the days are just super - couldn't ask for any better. Dropped off the RV this morning and then took a taxi $60 to airport to pick up hire car. We ended up with a Hyundai Sonata $280 for 7 days hire including full insurance - no complaining with that. We booked our hire cars on the Internet with "economy cars" - used them plenty of times before - they are very competitive with their pricing. Next we booked into our hotel in downtown Montreal - Hotel 7 Saisons...a very cute heritage hotel. We were a bit worried as reviews for this place weren't too good but we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Staff could speak broken English and were very friendly. The hotel is ... read more

Well here we are in Montreal - the city of beautiful people and where everyone speaks French! And then there's us - two independent Aussies (well 1 Aussie and 1 kiwi) who can't speak a word of the spoken language. We drove the 80 km into Montreal no problem - even though all the road signs were in French. The first 40 km of the drive were through beautiful countryside - dairy farms and local crops being grown in the region. All of a sudden the scenery changes and the highway becomes a mass of vehicles and the scenery is that of a big city. Tonight we are staying at a KOA in South Montreal - the closest RV park to the city - 22 km drive to downtown. We got directions to the Metro station ... read more

Overnight Temperatures dropped to 2 degrees C. overnight but the day has ended up being just perfect. Sun shining and no wind maximum 18 degrees. Ottawa is the capital of Canada and has a population of just under one million. We got an early start to the day but that's where it ended. Made our way to the Park & Ride station but the car park was full. Geoff asked someone about the train line and was told there was no trains in Ottawa and we should just drive the RV downtown - only 20 minutes away... The drive into the city was slow - should have turned around then and found another Park & Ride but we kept going - bad mistake...made it downtown - now the fun begins - to find a park for ... read more

Today was a 10 hour driving day leaving Toronto around 9am. Passing through the city was the usual slow haul but once out on the open highway we had a good ride. Made a detour at Port Hope and had morning tea by Lake Ontario. Today was cool but bright and sunny. Lake Ontario looked sparkling blue and very calm today. We took the waterfront trail between Port Hope to Belleville. The road along this trail was not the best - anything that wasn't tied down in the back of the RV went flying. It was disappointing that we couldn't complete the trail but we couldn't stand the condition of the road to continue on with it. We filled up with fuel at Belleville - $1.13 per litre (which we thought was a great price until ... read more

Rained heavily again last night - forecast for the day was rain so we were happy we had decided to take a country drive today rather than fight the city public transport in Toronto. Filled up with fuel before our trip $1.17 per litre. RV took $170 to fill. After visiting numerous cities on this trip we are starting to feel a little tired. After all each new city requires new research into their public transport and city parking. We are saving ourselves for Quebec and NYC! Well the country drive ended up being an 8 hour round trip through some lovely towns and villages along the water front trail of Lake Erie - Port Burwell to Port Dover. It was a very relaxed day - one of those days you wish would never end. The ... read more

Rain fell heavily all during the night and was still heavy in the morning. Glad we chose to visit the falls last night as there would be no chance of seeing much today. Drove the short distance to the international border - no line up - everyone must have been sleeping in on this wet day. It is certainly a lot easier to enter Canada than USA...very few questions asked before we were on our way - but first you have to pay a toll $6.50 for an RV. Along the highway there were lots of wineries lining both sides of the roads. In New York State there was also a significant number of wineries as well - must be the ideal temperature to grow grapes. Stopped by at the Ontario welcome centre - the lady ... read more
