Had a reasonable start to the day - headed off towards the Miami area. All good until we hit a traffic jam on the freeway. Took ages to get down to Miami in stop/start traffic. Finally arrived in Dowtown Miami around 11am. This part of Downtown Miami was very different from the Miami we saw yesterday. Found some metered parking (3.50 per hour) and walked over to Bayside Markets and the Bayfront Park. Although the plaza area was quite nice the surrounding area was not so good. A lot of homeless people hanging around and we sure wouldn't feel safe wandering around this area at night. The views of Port Miami were lovely - and there were lots of restaurants overlooking the Port. There was a large Hard Rock Cafe in the plaza - have to ... read more

First day in Florida and its a write off. I picked up a stomach bug which landed me in the bathroom for the day. Can't believe it! But hell not much we could do. Thought I felt a bit better around lunch time so we jumped in the car to head to the beach - only made it around the corner before I felt dreadfully sick - I said to Geoff - I think we need to go back home - but too late - I threw up in the car! What a terrible day that was. Geoff went to the grocery store and got me a bottle of Gingerale. It seemed to settle things down and the next morning I felt better - not perfect - but a better than yesterday. Day 2 - we ... read more

Packing bags ready for airline departure is never fun but hey it's a necessity. Being in the cold weather means we have so much more bulk to pack. Most of this will now be put away as we head to the warmer weather of Florida. What a great time we have had here in NYC - quite relaxed - as we have already seen a lot of the "must do's" therefore we didn't have the usual running around first timers have. This morning we said goodbye to Rick - promising to return in the summer of 2016. We caught a private taxi service to la Guardia airport - around 9 miles away from Harlem. Rick told us about the private taxi service and how it works. Unlike the yellow taxi cabs the private service is just that ... read more

Today's mission was to get on back down to B&H and purchase some equipment for the camera. First up we visited the local bakery "make my cake" as recommended by our Innkeeper Rick. as a thank you gift for Rick we purchased him a large sweet potato pie (his favourite and only $10 for a large pie). I tried out a strawberry shortcake (no added sugar) and Geoff chose a red velvet cup cake...all so yummy and very cheap (by Australian standards). Made it to B&H by 10am - the staff here have so much knowledge on photography gear it is totally unbelievable. We spent more than we intended but we were so impressed with the professional knowledge we received we figured we should go with it. There is nowhere else we are ever going to ... read more

What a fabulous day to begin 2015! The sun was out - shining bright - it was a cold day -2c this morning but the wind chill made it feel like -7c. After a great breakfast and a chat with Rick - we picked up some more tips for today's travel. First we jumped on the local bus M2 to the East Village - included in the metro card price - travelled the length of 5th Avenue - past Central Park and museum mile and got off at the last stop in The East Village. We had a chuckle as we watched all the tourist buses going by with people paying $50 for a day pass for the on/off buses. We are seeing all the same places for the price of a MTA ticket $2.50 per ... read more

Enjoyed a pizza last night at the local pizzeria Tarantino's which was close to the hotel. After having a quiet afternoon in the hotel we packed up reday for tomorrow's early morning flight to NYC. flying Air Alaska we fly to Seattle from Bozeman then havr s short layover before boarding anothe plane to nyc. The domestic flight cost $490 PP. Wake up call at 3am - tempersture in Bozeman at 4am -13 heading for a low of -26c. No fuss at the airport - Bozeman is a small airport with no pressure. Before take off the plane was hosed down to remove all the ice that was covering the body of the aircraft. It was a bit of an eerie feeling sitting on the Tarmac in the pitch dark while this was happening. The tarmac ... read more

Enjoyed the hot/cold buffet breakfast at the Quality Inn hotel this morning. There was a wide selection of foods including cereals, waffles, bacon, yoghurt and fruit. Coffee was exceptionally good here. After checking out of the hotel we had to stop by the grocery store to pick up a few bits and pieces including some duct tape to repair my suitcase. Even though we have purchased good quality cases they get so roughly treated going in and out of aircrafts they just don't last too long..anyway the duct tape has done a good enough repair job. Rental car dropped back at the airport then we had nearly 2 hour wait for the shuttle bus to take us to Mammoth Hot Springs in YNP. The bus was old (40yo) in fact but it was a comfortable and ... read more

Up before 7am - breakfast and finishing the packing - ready for our flight to Bozeman. Had a coffee with Linda's Swedish friends Be-be and her husband Gustof...they are a great couple. Gustof is a practising dermatologist and Be-be is a retired general practioner - both are in their 70's. We all agreed we should meet up again in 2016! Rain in Seattle today. The drive to Seatac airport was straightforward even in the rain. After dropping off the rental we caught a shuttle bus over to the terminal. SeaTac is a huge place. When we arrived at the self serve check in counter we noticed that our fight had been brought forward by an hour - now leaving at midday rather than 1pm. Luckily we had arrived early for the flight. We got an early start to the day as its our last full day here in Seattle. Tomorrow we will be flying out to start a new adventure in Yellowstone National Park! Looking forward to going to YNP but kind of sad to be leaving Seattle. First up for the day we headed to Ballard to check out the Hiram M Chittenden Locks. What an amazing place this is. The Locks, built in 1911 and often nicknamed the Ballard Locks, provides a link for boats between the salt water of Puget Sound and the fresh water of the Ship Canal, which connects eastward to Lake Union and Lake Washington. Tourists and locals enjoy watching the parade of sailboats, motorboats, tugs, barges and yachts passing through, as the locks' water levels are adjusted to allow their safe ... read more

Our inn keeper Linda provided us with some super ideas for a road trip outside the Seattle area. Off we headed - starting out by using the Washington state ferry to Bainbridge Island. The ferry is huge - cars are loaded onto the ferry and then passengers are welcome to sit upstairs in the lounge. The ferry has a restaurant and a bar onboard. The trip takes around 30 minutes and cost $20. Great views of Seattle are seen from onboard the ferry. Once we disembarked off the ferry we drove through numerous quaint small towns including Suquamish, Poulso, Port Gamble and Chimacum. We drove through Hood Canal and then over the Bridge - The Hood Canal Bridge is a floating bridge located in the U.S. state of Washington that carries Washington State Route 104 across ... read more
