Surfing on Lake OntarioRain fell heavily all during the night and was still heavy in the morning. Glad we chose to visit the falls last night as there would be no chance of seeing much today.
Drove the short distance to the international border - no line up - everyone must have been sleeping in on this wet day. It is certainly a lot easier to enter Canada than USA...very few questions asked before we were on our way - but first you have to pay a toll $6.50 for an RV.
Along the highway there were lots of wineries lining both sides of the roads. In New York State there was also a significant number of wineries as well - must be the ideal temperature to grow grapes.
Stopped by at the Ontario welcome centre - the lady working here was very helpful - providing us with maps and information for our stay on the east coast. A little further down the highway we detoured to have a look at the city of Burlington which has a lakefront area. The weather here was overcast and very foggy. We were interested to see quite a number of people out in the
Steam Whistle Brewerywater catching waves on their surfboards. Geoff found it quite amusing that people would be surfing in Lake Ontario.
We took a walk along the water front taking photos of the lift bridge and lighthouse that was in the canal area. Then drove to our KOA campground in West Toronto. The GPS once again took us on a wild and strange way but hey we made it. We will be staying here for 2 nights before moving on a 2 day trip to Ottowa.
Being as its a Sunday we thought we would take our chances at going downtown in the RV - we figured not as much traffic today...I don't know why we always do this must be the insane side of us both! Cause it was madness downtown - roadworks everywhere through Chinatown (which seems to go on for miles). Actually there was construction work and roadwork everywhere in Toronto.
Having driven through Chinatown and Koreatown at an extremely slow pace we decided that we didnt need to go back and look any further. During part of this drive I had to close my eyes as there was very little room for error!
We
Lake Ontariomanaged to find a carpark in Old Town Toronto - parking $1.50 for each 1/2 hour so we set out on foot to do some exploring. We managed to walk a fair way and see quite a bit - here's a list of what we saw on today's downtown adventure:
The Steam Whistle Brewery - had a free sample of their beer (pilsner).
Roundhouse Park - rail museum right in the heart of the city.
Rogers Centre - home of the Blue Jays baseball team.
The hockey hall of fame - we didn't go inside as we are not hockey fans but I hear its brilliant.
The Gooderham flatiron building - one of Geoffs favourite type of buildings to photograph.
Cathedral church of St. James.
St. Lawrence Market - Sunday is Antique Market Day.
"The Pasture" which features 7 cows laying in a pasture of green grass in the middle of the financial district.
100 workers Monument- a Monument commemorating workers of Ontario who have died in the workplace. A selection of actual incidents between 1901 and 1999 one from each of the years have been chosen to honour workers who
Lift bridge over the canallost their lives in workplace accidents. The plaques line the wall.
Simcoe Park which is next to the 100 workers monument.
Isabella Valancy Crawford Park.
We had intended on going up to the top of the CN Tower but the fog was so thick today there would have been nothing to see from up top. The fog continued to be thick all day before finally starting to go around 6pm this evening.
We were back at the campground around 8pm this evening - easy heat microwave meals tonight before making plans for tomorrow. Instead of going back into the city we plan to visit some of the spectacular scenery this province has on offer.
