This is how we got from Flores Guatemala to Caye Caulker Belize. 1. We booked our bus to Belize City through Hostel Los Amigos in Flores for Q100. The bus picked us up at 5am, drove around picking a few more people up from different places and left the island at 5:25am. 2. We arrived at the border at 7:20am. Just before the border a cambio man got on the bus to change money claiming that at the border there was a worse rate, however the other changers at the border when you got off the bus offered the same rate. 3. The bus stopped with Guatemalan immigration on the right. No questions asked and no forms required. It cost B$5 or Q20 to get a stamp. Our Arrival The bus from Rio Dulce dropped us off in Santa Elena which is the town on the other side of the bridge from Flores island. The bus station was too far down to walk to Flores with our backpacks and the bus was met by taxi drivers. The first driver quoted us Q20 each which we rejected and walked outside the terminal. There a driver offered Q15 for the two of us which we agreed to. Where We Stayed Hotel Aurora - on Calle Union. Q125 for a double room with bathroom and TV. The place had internet, a roof top terrace, laundry sink and clothes lines and a small kitchen but no fridge. Rooms upstairs with views of the lake were more expensive. Our Arrival Our boat from Livingston arrived at 11am. From the dock walk up the path under the bridge to reach the main road of the town. Where We Stayed Hospedaje Marilu - Q100 for a double room with private bathroom. Located just off the main road at the start of the bridge on the right hand side as you are facing the bridge. Wasn't a pretty room, the toilet had no seat and had to be flushed with a bucket and the fan wasn't very good. We stayed there as all the waterside hotels were really expensive. Our Arrival We arrived at the dock in Livingston at 12:15pm. The street in front of the port is the main street and there are several hotels on the road to the left from the port. Where We Stayed Hotel El Viajero - a few mins walk along the waterfront road to the left. We were quoted Q60 for a double room but charged Q70 a night plus an extra Q5 on check out. Room had its own bathroom and internet. There is a bar at the river side of the hotel which sold Q10 litre Brahva's. When we stayed the town had no power for a couple of days bar a few hours one afternoon and the room got really hot at night as we couldn't use the fan. What We Did Walked to Los ... read more


This is how we crossed the border at Corinto from Honduras to Guatemala and travelled to Livingston. 1. We left Roli's Place in Omoa at 8:05 and walked the 15mins back to the main highway to catch the bus coming from Puerto Cortes to the Guatemalan border at Corinto. The bus stop is signed and just to the right of the road out of town. 2. A bus to Corinto arrived at 8:25am. It cost L45 and arrived at the border at 9:35am. The bus drops you off by some restaurants. Walk over the bridge and through a passport check to a big building on the left for an exit stamp. There was no charge and no questions were asked. Our Arrival The bus from Puerto Cortes was heading to the border with Guatemala so we got dropped off at the main road turn off to Omoa. It takes about 15 mins to walk to the beach from the road. Where We Stayed Roli's Place - L180 for a double with shared bathroom. We paid L250 for a double room with private bathroom. There are also dorms available. Rooms are spacious and have a TV. There is a kitchen, free drinking water and free bicycles and kayaks. The hostel is set in large gardens with hammocks, seating areas and a sun lounger. The area is great to chill out for a bit and lizard spot in the gardens, we also saw a scorpion. They have 2 friendly dogs and a guinea pig roaming the grounds. There ... read more


Our Arrival The ferry docked on the East side of town. Turn left to walk into town. The ferry is met by a lot of dive schools trying to get you to sign up with them. Where We Stayed Hotel Sea Side Rooms - from the ferry walk along the main street until the far end of town near the beach. $15 for a room downstairs, $17 for a room upstairs next to the balcony. Room 201 upstairs is bigger however was missing a fly net on the window so we stayed in room 204 opposite which has 2 double beds and a tiny bathroom. Wifi, kitchen, water view and next to the beach. Our Arrival We caught the Diana Express bus from San Pedro Sula which arrived in La Ceiba at 4pm. It dropped us off at their offices near the Mall Megaplaza. A taxi to the town centre cost L25 per person. Where We Stayed Hotel Granada - in the market area on Avenue Atlantida between Calle 4 and 5. L280 for a double room with TV and bathroom. We originally shared a taxi to Banana Republic Guesthouse however they only had dorm beds which were $12 each! We walked up the road into town and there are plenty of hotels around the market. Where We Ate We had dinner in somewhere next to the hotel not worth mentioning however there was a supermarket on Avenue 14 de Julio just next to our hotel. There are also a ... read more

Our Arrival Our shuttle dropped us off on Calle 18 Conejo opposite Hotel Don Moises. Where We Stayed Hotel MarJenny - up the hill on Avenue Mirador, 1 1/2 blocks North from where the bus dropped us off. We were met at the bus stop by a tout offering rooms in this place for $20. We declined and started walking down the street but he went down to $15 so we agreed to look at the place. There was a decent sized swimming pool, roof terrace with seating, hammocks and nice views and a small TV in the room. Our room was by the swimming pool so was a bit noisy but for $15 during semana santa was fine. There was hot water when we first arrived but didn't get any since. What We Did Visited ... read more


Our Arrival The bus stops opposite the tourist information office on Calle Principal in the town. You can walk to your accomodation from there. Where We Stayed Hospedaje Zulema - on Calle Rancho Grande near Calle 14 De Febrero opposite Hotel Jere. Q100 for a double room with shared bathroom. Good wifi and a bit of a balcony. What We Did The weather was very overcast whilst we were here with limited views of the volcano on the lake. Therefore we didn't do any boat trips just walked around town and did a bit of shopping. Where We Ate At the lake end of Calle Rancho Grande are food stalls with your usual chicken and tortillas etc for Q12. At night food stalls set up down Calle Santander.
