Our Arrival The bus drops you off next to the market in the middle of town. Where We Stayed Hostal Brisas Y Olas - $18 for a room with bathroom. We were up a spiral staircase and I think the rooms downstairs were $20. Free water which sometimes ran out, kitchen and balcony. Sunset Guesthouse - $10 for a double with shared bathroom. Small room but friendly owners. Nina's Guesthouse -$15 for a double with shared bathroom. Nice rooSm but no kitchen usage for guests. Hospedaje Soya - $12 for a double room with a shared bathroom between 2 rooms. Use of the kitchen. In Playa Maderas Matildas - $20 for a double with a shared bathroom between 2 rooms. Central America Caribbean January 20th 2014

Our Arrival In Altagracia The 2pm ferry from Granda arrives just after 6pm about 3km down a bad road from Altagracia. On the boat people come around and try and sell you their hostel and taxi ride into town. If you decide not to take them up on their offer get off the boat early as there was only 1 small pickup that wasn't run by a hostel/hotel. We took the minivan taxi arranged with the man off the boat. You will need to give in your ticket on departure. In Santa Cruz We caught the 9:30am bus from the park opposite the church in Altagracia to Balgue. The driver dropped us at or hostel Little Morgans just past the Santa Cruz turn off C$17. Our Arrival The minibus from Managua UCA dropped us next to the central park. Where We Stayed Hospedaje La Libertad - $10 for a double room with shared bathroom. Thin mattress and a bit grotty but cheap. Small kitchen, free salsa classes and an expensive bar. When we stayed it seemed to be full of long term stayers. Spanish speaking staff only. Hostal Entre Amigos - $5 dorm or $18 double with shared bathroom. Opposite La Libertad and next to Bearded Monkey. The dorm has some double beds and non bunk beds. Clean, free drinking water, TV in courtyard and a kitchen. Hostal La Casita - $16 for a double room with shared bathroom. Nice courtyard, kitchen. Backyard Hostel - $16 for a double room with shared bathroom. Firm mattresses, swimming pool, kitchen and cheap bar. ... read more


Our Arrival We took a taxi from Leon C$75 each which dropped us at the hostel. Where We Stayed Bigfoot Beach Hostel - $24 for a double room with shared bathroom with one other room. Right on the beach and we were the only people there. There is a free shuttle from the Bigfoot Hostel in Leon at about 3pm so it gets busy in the evening during the sunset. There is a fairly pricey menu and bar. What We Did Enjoyed the beach and the waves. Watched the sunset. Where We Ate At the other end of the beach to the Bigfoot hostel, near the bus stop, are a collection of cheaper bars/restaurants. Where We Went Next We went back to Leon. Our Arrival The minibus from Managua UCA dropped us at a bus station North of the town. A taxi or pedalo to the centre costs C$20 each. Where We Stayed Bigfoot Hostel - $6 for a fan dorm or $8 for an aircon dorm. Dorms are very dark but come with massive lockers (BYO padlock). Marketed as a party hostel but the bar closes at 11pm. For those who want to continue the party the staff show you to another bar in town which stays open later. Has a restaurant and can book tours. Lazybones Hostel - $8 for a dorm. There is a swimming pool and breakfast is available. Hostal Madrid - $16 for a double room with TV and private bathroom. One block North from the cathedral on Central Avenue. Our Arrival We arrived late in the evening and had prebooked (and prepaid) for an airport pick up through Managua Backpackers Inn ($20 for 2 people). Once through immigration ($10 for a 90 day visa) and a quick bag scan we were met by the driver holding a sign with our names on. He dropped us outside the hostel. Where We Stayed We stayed at Managua Backpackers Inn $10 for a dorm bed. The hostel has a kitchen, small restaurant for breakfast and a pool. Free water refils are available. The backpackers is near a shopping mall and supermarket. What We Did We visited Parque Historico Nacional Loma de Tiscapa a crater lake with city views.
