Our Arrival The bus from Playa Del Carmen dropped us off at the ADO bus station in downtown Cancun on Avenue Tulum. Where We Stayed Hotel Tankah - North of Mercado 28 on Tankah near Xel-ha. M$250 for a large room with bathroom, aircon and non cable TV. Free hot and cold water and internet. The rates posted inside the hotel are a lot higher but are negotiable. Near the market and supermarkets. Hostel Kankun - M$150 for a double room with share bathroom and internet. Roof terrace. Good value for one or two nights. Can use the kitchen. There was a lot of the owners stuff lying around and it was a bit rough around the edges (we had to walk through their wardrobe to get to our room). Main door is locked and you ... read more


Our Arrival The collectivo from Tulum arrived at 11:55 on calle 2 and avenue 20 in the middle of town. Where We Stayed Hostal Colores Mexico - Avenue 15 and calle 2. M$300 for a double room with bathroom and TV. Internet in common areas, share kitchen and share balcony. Posada Del Carmen - Avenue 45 and calle 50. M$1500 for a week. Double room with bathroom, TV, aircon and internet. Share kitchen but the owner was quite fussy about what bit of fridge space we could use. A bit out of the way but did a cheaper weekly rate. Still within walking distance to shops and the beach. What We Did Went to the beach and walked 5th avenue. Visited the Sunday market on calle 54 between avenue 10 and 30. Our Arrival The ADO bus from Vallalodid arrived at 2:55pm. The bus terminal is on the main highway between Jupiter Norte and Alfa Norte in Tulum town. There are free maps available in the bus station. Where We Stayed Hotel Maya - on the main highway a couple of blocks south of the ADO bus station. M$300 for a dark double room with bathroom and internet in the room. We walked around Tulum town for a long time trying to find somewhere to stay and this was the cheapest we could find. What We Did Went to the beach - we have more time than money so decided to walk to the beach. It took about 1 1/4hours. We walked down the beach road and at the end you reach a fork. Our Arrival The bus from Merida dropped us off at the bus station in town on calle 39 and calle 46. Where We Stayed Hostel de Huespedes - calle 39 and calle 48. M$180 for a double room with bathroom and TV. Internet worked in reception area. The whole place was pretty grubby and there was a dirty kitchen which could be used but no fridge. However it seemed to be the cheapest place in town and the room was large. What We Did VISITED CENOTES Cenote Zaci - in town on calle 37 and 34. M$25 admission. A half open cenote with swimming. Cenote Samula - out of town on the way to Dzitnup. We walked there and it took about 1 1/4hrs on a path running alongside the highway. There are also colectivos that ... read more

Our Arrival We arrived at the 2nd class bus terminal on Calle 68 and Calle 69. From there it is a quick walk into town. Where We Stayed Hotel Marsella - on calle 68 and calle 63. M$250 for a double room with bathroom, TV, aircon and internet. What We Did Walked around the City looking at the churches, parks and buildings. You can get a map with information about all of the areas from the tourist information on the square. The best market in town is the Mercado Municipal Lucas de Galvez near Calle 67. Where We Ate There were places to eat around the big market and the bus station. There is an Oxxo convenience store on calle 63 and calle 64. Our Arrival We arrived at 6pm at the ADO bus station. To get to the centre of town we took a taxi from the rank outside to the Plaza Principal. It was a set fare of M$30 total for us both and took about 15mins. Where We Stayed Hospedaje Teresita - Calle 53 near Calle 14. M$180 for a double room with bathroom. The room was set off a courtyard with lines for drying clothes. Could have been a bit cleaner but the price was good. No internet. What We Did Walked around the city. It cost M$10 to go up the city wall at the Puerta de Tierra and included admission to a small pirate museum. There is a long waterfront promenade which gets busy in the evenings. This is how we crossed the border from Corozal in Belize to Campeche Mexico via Chetumal. 1. From the bus station in Corozal next to the market we caught a bus to Chetumal. The bus left at 8:20am and cost B$5. It arrived at the border at 8:40am. 2. Go through Belizean migration. (When we got off the bus many people left their bags on the bus so we did too thinking that the bus will wait. The bus doesn't wait but runs back and forward shuttling several people to the Mexican side of the border on different trips. The same bus did pick us up in the end but it definately would have been better to have our backpacks in our possession). First there is a desk where you have to pay B$37.50 exit fee ... read more


Our Arrival The bus from Orange Walk dropped us at the bus station to the West of the park. It is a few mins walk to the middle of town. Where We Stayed Sea Breeze Hotel - B$60 for a large room with TV and bathroom with hot water. Free water, kitchen available for use and internet. Breakfast available for B$10 and there is a bit of a bar upstairs. We also checked Maya World Guesthouse which was B$55 but didn't have internet. What We Did Not too much - the town is pretty quiet and hardly anything is open on Sundays. Where We Ate There are small stalls and restaurants selling tacos around town. Two for B$1. Europe May 10th 2014

Our Arrival Our bus from Belize City arrived at the temporary bus terminal just to the West of town. The bus stopped on the road next to the cemetry. To get to town (as you are facing the cemetry) walk right to the end of the road and turn left. At the traffic lights you have reached the main street. To go to Akihito Hotel turn right at the traffic lights and it is on your left. Only a 5 min walk. Where We Stayed Akihito Hotel - B$45 for a small double room with TV and bathroom. There was no sink in the bathroom. Internet doesn't work on the top floor where our room was. What We Did There isn't much in Orange Walk. Our Arrival We arrived at the San Pedro water taxi dock on the East side of the island in torrential rain. There were some touts waiting to show rooms although most seemed pretty expensive. I waited with the bags under shelter whilst Gearoid went to look at the cheapest one for B$35. The rain started to ease so we decided to walk around and check some more places. Most were pretty expensive (about B$50/60 for a room) however after nearly an hour we found a really good guesthouse. Where We Stayed Sandy Lane Guesthouse - B$21.80 for a double room with sink and shared bathroom. Private bathrooms are available for B$38.
