This is how we crossed the border from Cuenca in Ecuador to Chiclayo Peru on a night bus. We then caught further buses to Trujillo and our final destination of Huanchaco. 1. We bought tickets for the international night bus the day before from Cuenca bus terminal. Ticket window was no 3 for Super Semeria. They offered us $13 for a bus to Piura or $18 to Chiclayo which was $2 less than the other companies Pullman Sucre and Azuay. They also told us there would be one bus whether Pullman Sucre said we would have to change buses. The bus was at 22:00 and stopped at Mancora, Piura and Chiclayo. A passport was required to buy a ticket. 2. There are different exits from the terminal to the platforms. Super Semeria buses left from exit ... read more

Where We Stayed Hostal Alta Montanita - $12 for a double room with shared bathroom. Warm showers and internet worked well. Rooms were a bit threadbare and chilly at night as weren't sealed and only a sheet was provided. There was a much needed mosquito net. What was weird was that they didn't provide toilet paper in the shared bathrooms. When we first arrived there was some there but it soon ran out. We asked for some more and they told us that we would have to buy it! It is located just over the bridge (back towards ... read more

Our Arrival We arrived at 2:35pm from Quevedo. The bus drove into town along the main road, turned left along the main road to the beach and turned around in a dirt area in town. This is where we got off the bus. We turned left and were on the main drag to the beach. Where We Stayed Hostal Shelmar - $10 for a double room with shared bathroom. Room was small with worn away cushions instead of pillows on the bed. The bathroom was downstairs and there was only one shower/toilet combo for everyone. This meant a wait of 15mins to brush teeth or use the toilet if someone was showering. You were able to use the restaurant kitchen. There was internet but it didn't work very well, even downstairs. So after Quito this was our pointless detour to Riobamba. After Quito we hoped to spend a couple of days in a nice mountain town whilst we planned a bit and caught up on some internet stuff. Unfortunately this was where not having a guidebook was a bad idea. We took out our Ecuador map which we received when we crossed the border from Colombia and looked for somewhere between Quito and the coast where we could hang out. Riobamaba was marked on our map as a historic town so after a brief internet search we decided to head there from Quito. There were lovely views of the snowy volcanoes on the bus ride and we got into Riobamba early afternoon. The bus station is on Epiclachima and Leon Borja. We had looked up a couple ... read more
