Geo: 28.5377, -81.3774Supposed to be at Animal Kingdon today, but its not open due to Hurricane Matthew. Everything is closed. Schools, public transport, all shops, outlet shops, delis, everything. They say that there was millions of dollars damage along the coast, but there wasn't much on the news that showed any significant devastation. We had rain and wind, but we didn't notice anything in the hotel. Have since seen some reports of lost homes and roads washed away but it turns out the eye of the hurricane didn't make land, so it wasn't as bad as expected. Done nothing. Hotel is full of people that have been evacuated due to the Hurricane. As there is no food available the hotel has been very good and they put breakfast on again for lunch and again for dinner. Geo: 28.5377, -81.3774Ok, up early for breakfast as Jodie's not letting us miss that shuttle. Departs 8.55am.We didn't reach Walt Disney World (Disney) until 9.45 which is just a ticket office. But a ferry and then a bus later we make it to Hollywood Studios (10.50am). The upside of the bit of rain is that the parks area empty, all the employees are saying make the most of it. After the debate to change to Magic Kingdom, we stayed with our plan. Enough waffle, onto the good bits....First we did the Great Movie Ride which was very lovely. Then onto the Indianna Jones Stunt Spectacular which was really interesting.Toy Story Mania ride was THE BEST!. he competition was on to shoot and get the highest score. Jodie won the first round. Decided to go back through again, ... read more

Geo: 42.8854, -78.8784Well no photos and no exciting adventures to report. We moved on to Buffalo, near the airport and next to a shopping centre. We walked into a few shops, including Sears who had clearance sales and Kirsten and I bought up. It was cheap, even with tax and our 30%. ... read more

Geo: 43.0955, -79.0559Headed off on a long walk to the Whirlpool. It's raining, but we decide to soldier on as we heard it wasn't too be missed. After an extremely long walk, one look (and admittedly we didn't walk to the bottom, just the lookout platform) and we were suddenly very weary. Really wasn't much to look at. Decided to pay the extravagant cost of $27 to take us back to town. Onto more exciting things. Tickets for the Mistrider Zipline. Awesome, Kirsten used to GoPro to record it but Ella was left behind a little and she wasn't happy. Then onto Maid of the Mist (the Canadian one is now called the Hornblower). The sheer force is such a spectacle to behold.Another walk along the 'falls strip' and then decide to let the girls do ... read more

North America » Canada » Ontario » Niagara Falls October 2nd 2016

Geo: 43.1066, -79.0642Day started off slow as everyone was up late and then on the way to breakfast Ella was sick. Eventually had to leave breakfast as she wasn't good. By 11.30 we were on our way to the falls. We started on the South end of the Canadian side and they were spectacular. You simply can't realise from the photos the vastness or the amount of water going over which is about 650,000 million litres going over the falls every second. We walked along to the bridge to cross into USA when the skies opened so made a run for cover. Went and played Wizards Mini Golf (basically glow in the dark mini golf). Pretty awesome actually, especially when the spider scared Kirsten enough to run away. Also saw the upside down house.Back to the ... read more

Geo: 42.4078, -77.2239Hammondsport wasn't mentioned anywhere but we stopped in for breakfast and although it was by far our worst meal and even worse service the town was pretty as a picture. Its located on Keuka Lake and had a nice little market underway with some quirky things. Walk down to the harbour and look around before heading to Letchworth State Park.Letchworth was a huge park. Takes an hour to drive from one end to the other, but all the really interesting things are at the South end. The gorge is over 500ft high and referred to as the Grand Canyon of the East. Quite awe inspiring, can't imagine what the Grand Canyon would be like. Walked to the Upper Falls and yes, we have water, they are beautiful. Heard them before we saw them. Then ... read more

Geo: 42.3806, -76.8733Well into the Finger Lakes area of New York Stated now and heading off from Ithaca straight to Watkins Glen Gorge with our supplies of donuts and fruit. Was planning to walk to the Chequeta Falls at Montour Falls first, but you'll see from the photo has lacking in water that one was. Didn't bother with the walk.Onto into the Watkings Glen gorge and it was breathtaking from the start. It even beat the gorge at Robert E Treman State Park yesterday. Every step just looked better and better and the photos don't do any justice to the size. It was gorgeous and no one complained about the 785 steps upward. The town wasn't much but the people were helpful and we had our donuts and fruit down at the marina bay. Decided to visit the ... read more

Geo: 42.4405, -76.4955What a morning. Trouble with maps, can't charge anything, no power. Found some in the bathroom. AND, its finally raining. Meant to stop at Wegman Supermarket for supplies (code for donuts) but with everything going wrong, we neglected that stop as well!Rain doesn't stop us, but the lack of maps tries to stop us. Had to find the Ithaca Falls on our own. Up near Cornell University. We managed to find them but due to a lot of work you can't see all of them. Bit disappointing.Off to Taughannock (pronounced Taganuck Falls). 30minutes later and nothing, not even a trickle. Apparently this one and the Buttermilk Falls feed the lake, and with no rain for nearly 20 weeks they've dried up. We decided to do the walk to the falls anyway, because Ella was ... read more

Geo: 42.9469, -76.4294What a beautiful day today, the sun is shining again and the St Lawrence River looks great. Crossed the border back into USA (much quicker than lat time) and oops, passed the viewing tower. The views from there would be fantastic today. Never mind, on we go.Made it to Watertown in good time. They had a little market. We walked around and we tried some cheese filled salami which was too good to pass up. Moved onto Skaneateles which was the most beautiful little town. It was so picturesque. We walked around the town and checked out the bridge and foreshore area. Its only early afternoon so decide to keep moving and head to Ithaca or Watkins Glen.Only made it to Ithaca. Quite a busy place and not the picturesque beauty of Skaneateles. But ... read more
