Geo: 48.8566, 2.35097We woke fairly early, due to jet lag, and set off for our first breakfast of this trip. We decided to eat at Cafe St Regis as it was less than a minute's walk from our hotel. Hubby had Eggs Benedict and loved them, I had a cheese omelet, together with a baguette and cafe crème. The omelet was delicious but a tad too cheesy for me (and I love cheese!).We then set out on our self planned walking tour of the left bank, using the City Walks app on my iphone. We used these apps all around Paris, Amsterdam and Den Haag with quite a lot of success. We had a bit of trouble occasionally when the GPS appeared to get its signal blocked, but generally could always work out where we were ... read more

Geo: 48.8566, 2.35097We flew Emirates from Melbourne to Paris, via Dubai. We arrived at around 1.30pm on Tuesday 2nd October, stopped to purchase two four day Museum Passes at the Tourist Desk at CDG and were then met by the shuttle from Hotel St Louis En L'Isle. We were checked in and in our room by 3.00pm. We were fairly happy with the hotel room, although typically small, even though we booked the largest room. I will do a separate hotel review. After a quick shower and freshen up, we simply wandered Ile St Louis for a couple of hours, finishing up with a glass or two of wine at Cafe St. Regis followed by dinner at Caveau... read more

After an approximate twelve hour flight from Heathrow, we arrived in Kuala Lumpur. We had visited Kuala Lumpur about four years ago, so this was very much a relaxing stopover, with the biggest focus being on lying by the pool and warming up in readiness for our return to an Australian summer. We caught a taxi for the almost one hour drive from the airport. We learned on our last visit, that purchasing a return taxi voucher from the stall at the airport is by far the cheapest way to do this trip. Unfortunately, we have had a few cases of being ripped off by KL taxis, so having a prepaid voucher protects against that. We stayed at the Mandarin Oriental, right next door to the Petronas Towers, which is where we stayed last time. One ... read more

Geo: 51.5002, -0.126236Today was our last day before our night flight home. The hotel had given us a late checkout so that meant we could use the day for some shopping before returning for showers before the flight. We caught the tube to Knightsbridge so everyone could have a look at Harrods. We then went for a long walk beside the park as my husband wanted to see the Albert Memorial after he had seen my photos of it last year. We then went for a long walk beside the park as my husband wanted to see the Albert Memorial after he had seen my photos of it last year. It was a beautiful sunny day, so a very pleasant walk. We then caught the first bus that came along for Oxford Circus and sat up top having a last look at London. We got off near John Lewis as a lady on the bus told me that there were good clean toilets there! We also noticed ... read more

Geo: 51.1717, -1.77897This was our final full day in London and we didn't really have any definite plans. I was tossing up between Hampton Court or Windsor Castle, but our son really wanted to see Stonehenge, in fact it was his only request for the trip. I didn't think we had the time (or money!) to visit, but it turned out that we had seen all the things on our main to-do list and had actually spent a lot less than we had planned – mainly due to the 2-4-1 offers. I was tossing up between Hampton Court or Windsor Castle, but our son really wanted to see Stonehenge, in fact it was his only request for the trip. I didn’t think we had the time (or money!) to visit, but it turned out that we had seen all the things on our main to-do list and had actually spent a lot less than we had planned – mainly due to the 2-4-1 offers. I really don’t enjoy bus tours with big crowds, so I decided to telephone the private taxi company who did all our transfers and they quoted me £300 pounds for all of us for a ten hour day. While expensive, we much prefer touring this way as ... read more
