Geo: 7.97501, 98.3515Today we decided to have a lazy day. Yesterday had been a long day and even though we did nothing except sail around in boats, it was still very tiring. We also had our big dinner planned for tonight as this was Mum's actual birthday. We spent the morning having our complimentary full body massages at the Kata Palm Hotel spa which was so good we had to immediately book another one for another day! We then caught a tuk tuk up the hill to the Small View Point... read more

We spent the morning having our complimentary full body massages at the Kata Palm Hotel spa which was so good we had to immediately book another one for another day! We then caught a tuk tuk up the hill to the Small View Point Cafe for a light lunch and a look at the spectacular views. The afternoon was spent lounging my the pool and having an afternoon cocktail at the swim up bar. Life is tough! For our dinner we went to Mom Tri’s Kitchen at. As usual there, the ... read more

Geo: 7.97501, 98.3515On Tuesday we were picked up and driven to the pier for our speedboat tour of Phang Nga with Phuket Sail Tours. We had a organised a private charter as we were a group of nine and we had a wonderful day. It was our second private charter with Mark, we went out on the Sakai a couple of years ago. This trip was just as good. The beauty of doing a private charter is that you can choose the start and finish times. Normally the pickup is very early, but as it was ju... read more

This trip was just as good. The beauty of doing a private charter is that you can choose the start and finish times. Normally the pickup is very early, but as it was just our party, we were collected at around 9.00am in a very comfortable minivan for the approximately one hour drive to the north east of Phuket to the pier. We hopped onto the speed boat and immediately headed towards the Krabi region ... read more

Geo: 7.97501, 98.3515We have been to Phuket three times before and we love the place. Hate Patong but love staying down at Kata Beach. As my brother lives in Perth and our mother here in Melbourne with us, it was decided to go to Asia for her birthday instead of my brother and his family flying here to Melbourne. Stupidly it is actually cheaper for them to go to Thailand by plane and stay in a hotel than to come to Melbourne! Originally we were going to Bali, but as it appears to be high season there, it was looking quite expensive, especially for us from Melbourne. The hotels were crazily expensive in comparison to Phuket and none of them seemed to be in the type of location we were after, so we decided to go ... read more

Geo: -37.8143, 144.963We flew Thai Airways Melbourne to Phuket via Bangkok. The flight was fine, except a lot of the seat back screens didn't work properly, including ours, which was a dampener for my husband and son. Didn't worry me as I prefer to read. ... read more

Geo: 5.4712, 100.246Today we used Jamahl, the hotel driver again for a trip to see some temples and churches. We went into Georgetown first to Prangin Mall to see Patrick Ung (recommended on Trip Advisor) regarding our glasses. The traffic in Georgetown was amazing - so bad that we could not even cross the road from the car to the mall. Jamahl had to get out of the car and walk into the road and stop the traffic for us! We then had another drive through Georgetown, Chinatown and Little India etc. We started with St Georges Church, then went to a small Thai Buddhist temple that Jamahl recommended and ended with the Thai and Burmese temples opposite each other. Lots of photo opportunities! He then took us up a hill near Tanjung Bungah which ha... read more

Geo: 5.4712, 100.246We flew out on the 00:45am Malaysia Airlines flight from Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur, then Malaysia Airlines again to Penang, arriving about 9:00am. The flight was as comfortable as you could hope but I didn't think the service or food was as good as our flight on Thai Airlines who we flew with last year.We were collected at the airport up by a driver from the Bayview Beach Resort, and he took us on a quick driving tour around Georgetown along the way to Batu Ferringhi which was very interesting. We arrived at the Bayview Beach Resort at about 10.30am to find our interconnecting Family Side Seaview and Deluxe Side Seaview rooms reading and waiting. We were very happy with the standard of the rooms, particularly the size. They were huge and the king sized ... read more
