Geo: 13.7308, 100.521We left Phuket on the day of Songkran - the Thai water festival where it seems everyone squirts everyone else with water. I was half glad to be leaving it, but a little sad too.We arrived back in Bangkok just after lunch after a quick flight from Phuket. It was raining when we arrived, but as it was Songkran it really didn't matter! Our driver drove us along Khao San Road where large groups of young people with massive hoses squirted everything in site and then sprinkled it with flour. Looked like great fun from inside a car.We spent more time in MBK to finish our shopping then headed to Sirocco for predinner drinks. We had actually planned to go to Vertigo, but we inadvertently asked for directions to the Sky Bar rather than ... read more

Geo: 7.97501, 98.3515Sadly, today was our last day :(On Thursday we wandered down to have a look at the Kata Beach Resort and the Kata Palm Resort. We were already making plans to come back and trying to find somewhere to stay. While we throughly enjoyed Club Med, it is not really good value due to the incredibly cheap price of eating out in Phuket. We paid a premium price to stay at Club Med, which was obviously all inclusive. However, we figured out that we could stay in much, much better accommodation than Club Med offered and eat out and buy our own drinks for a lot less money. Both of these resorts were lovely, with Kata Beach the better due to its proximity to thebeach. If you were there in the off season though, Kata Palm ... read more

Geo: 7.97501, 98.3515Not too much to write today - we felt like a lazy day and that is exactly what we had.We caught a tuk tuk to Karon Beach to visit the Karon Beach Market - like everywhere in Phuket it was hot, hot, hot! but a good market all the same.We continued back into Patong to spend more time at the Otop Markets. We used this time to finish all our shopping for family back home. Back at Club Med we had dinner and enjoyed a Snake Show on stage. After this we caught a taxi back up to the Small Viewpoint Bar where we were yesterday, to enjoy drinks and see the view by night. ... read more

Geo: 7.97501, 98.3515On Tuesday we visited the Kok Chang Safari with a group of people who regularly post on Trip Advisor, Sunsets'r'Us, with Sunsets'r'Us (Lee and Trevor), Max'n'Max (Max and Maxine) and Anne, Dave and Matt. (I hope I got the names right). We had a terrific day, in my opinion the best we had in Phuket. The weather was great, the views spectacular and what a lovely cool breeze from the top! This was a not to be missed experience.Richard from Phuket Pro Dive picked us up in a mini bus. The others mentioned above were already in the bus as they had been picked up in Patong first. We headed out of Kata up the hill to a cafe called the Small Viewpoint. What at view! This timber cafe/bar clung to the side of the hill ... read more

Geo: 7.97501, 98.3515Today we had booked to do scuba diving with Megumi from Phuket Pro Dive and Sail.Megumi started by explaining the mechanics of scuba diving and how to breathe and so on. I have to say that she scared me witless with this and I wasn't really looking forward to the experience. The kids, however, very much were!We were taken to Kata Beach near the rocks at the end. I have to admit that I chickened out of this activity as simply putting on the wetsuits in the intense heat and humidity was a nightmare, and combined with my fears that something would go wrong, I decided to sit on the beach in the shade and watch. The kids had a ball, I must say. They behaved well and did everything that they were told ... read more

Geo: 7.97501, 98.3515Today, Sunday, was spent with John Grae Sea Canoe on Phang Nga Bay.What a spectacular way to spend a day. As previous reviews have said, the staff justgo out of their way to make it enjoyable. The day started with us being picked up at our resort in a minibus and taken on around a one hour drive to the Ao Po pier, where the tour leaves from.We were doing the Hongs by Starlight Tour which means we left later, around midday - yay, a lazy morning. We then transferred to the John Gray boat. The boat was quite similar to a ferry - there were around 30 of us and there was plenty of room. The first part of the journey was an explanation of our tour and safety information, together with a yummy light ... read more

Geo: 7.97501, 98.3515We decided to spend Saturday relaxing and sunbaking and using the time to explore the resort of Club Med.We then wandered into Kata Town to explore that area in the late afternoon and to drop off some laundry. There are many laundry establishments in the road opposite Club Med (I think it is called Ket Khuan Road). We paid 60 baht per kilo for washing, drying and pressing. Great service that I would love to have at home! There are also a couple of massage shops here as well as a great shop where we bought t-shirts, hats, boardies etc. There didn't appear to be any bartering, it was a fixed price shop, but I only paid 300 baht for D and G and Von Dutch tops, it was air conditioned and with a ... read more

Geo: 7.97501, 98.3515We arrived in Phuket Friday 6th April after two hectic days in Bangkok. It was a brief one hour flight from Bangkok airport to Phuket. Our resort, Club Med, sent a van to collect us from the airport and we drove for over an hour down Phuket island to Kata Beach. Phuket was a bit of an eye opener for us after the relative civilisation of Bangkok, but we loved it. We particularly loved the view of the Big Buddha, sitting on top of a hill overlooking the island. We spent the rest of the day looking around Club Med resort, which was huge, and enjoying the stunning Kata Beach. After dinner we walked along the beach to the Ska Bar and enjoyed reggae music and fire twirling.Club Med was fantastic, all the negative reports I ... read more

Geo: 13.7308, 100.521Our second day was spent shopping at MBK and looking at Siam Paragon and Siam Discovery shopping centres. At the kids insistence we tried KFC for a light lunch. Don't bother, the chicken burgers were even worse than here in Australia. It was the toughest, stringiest chicken we have ever eaten. After a refreshing swim, we were picked up for our evening dinner cruise on the Loy Nava. The sight of the palaces and buildings lit up along the river was beautiful. The Thai traditional menu was very enjoyable and the whole evening was extremely pleasant. After being dropped back at our hotel we decided to catch a taxi to Suan Lum night bazaar. The doorman arranged for a metered taxi, but as soon as we got in he turned off the meter! Again, following advice ... read more

Geo: 13.7308, 100.521We arrived at 6.00am after a very good flight with Thai Airways from Melbourne to Bangkok. Service was great and the food was as nice as you could expect for airline food.We were picked up at the airport by our hotel, the Pathumwan Princess and had a very quick trip to the city.See my hotel review here:http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/ShowUserReviews-g293916-d301334-r7579909-Pathumwan_Princess_Hotel-Bangko.html After checking in and freshening up we headed through MBK to the National Stadium skytrainstation. Thanks to all the advice from Tripadvisor and Asia Web we knew exactly where to go and how to buy tickets. It was so easy and quick. We caught the skytrain to Saphan Taksin (the end of the line) then hopped on the tourist boat at the pier. We stayed on the boat until Ta Chang pier where we got off for ... read more
