Oceania » Australia » Western Australia » Perth October 22nd 2005

I have now made it to Oz and after some heavy questionning at immigration was allowed into the country! My first stop has been Perth. So far I have found it to be a lovely city. Easy to get around especially with free buses and friendly people. Spent a day at Fremantle or "Freo" as the locals call it. A really nice, relaxed port where I enjoyed walking around the famous markets and eating fish and chips at Cicerello's on the harbour. The museum was also really interesting and I enjoyed learning all about the immigration policies and the 10 pound ticket to Australia. Spent the evening watching Pride and Prejudice at the cinema and today I have been to Kings Park and the Botanic Gardens. Lovely with breath taking views of the city. Great to ... read more

Asia » Singapore October 20th 2005

Well started the next leg of my journey and have just spent three nights in Singapore. Made it to the hostel o.k after taking the local bus where the bus driver was kind enough to remember not to tell me when to get off. Luckily I was just about awake and had been watching the street names so I only had to go on one extra stop. Hostel was above a bar in one of the new up and coming red light districts of Singapore. A street filled with bars and Hotel 81's which apparently are rented by the hour! Nevermind. The accommodation iteself was o.k. and i shared a room with 5 teachers from Thailand. Made friends with two girls from London - Jen and Priya who are on a trip around Asia and South ... read more

Arrived back in the UK on 2 October after an amazing 6 nights in New York with my friend Tracy. Managed to do all the main sights including Ellis Island, Staten Island ferry, Empire State, Central Park, Guggenheim, Macy's, Bloomingdales, Tiffany's and managed to see Rent the musical. Thanks to Cheryl and all my yurt buddies at summer camp for introducing me to the sound track. I loved it. Had a busy time back in the UK. Managed to sort out another visa for the US so am able to work at Sargent Center camp until June 2007. Visited a few friends, oh and managed to drive the mini cooper through a giant puddle, got stuck and now it needs a new engine! Aaaagh. Very expensive visit. Thanks to all those I managed to see or ... read more

Well, after 4 weeks of travelling across the United States and into Canada I have now made it back to New York. I had an amazing trip, met some fantastic people and had lots of laughs. The highlights of the trip for me were completing a 12 mile hike in Glacier National Park with breath taking views, enjoying a fish supper in Seattle, going to Alcatraz and spending a day at good old Disneyland! I now have 6 nights in NYC before I come home.... read more

North America » Canada » British Columbia » Vancouver September 14th 2005

Having an awesome time on my trip across America. The highlights so far have been hiking in Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks and in the snow capped Rocky mountains. It has been a lot of traveling on a cramped mini bus so it was great to get outdoors and do some really good hikes. Now in Vancouver and after lots of camping I am looking forward to a night in a hotel in Seattle tomorrow! I then head down to Yosemite National Park and San Francisco before finishing the trip in LA on 23 August.... read more

North America » United States » Illinois » Chicago August 30th 2005

Well had many adventures and stories since my last blog. Far too many to mention here! The highlights were attempting to get from China Town in downtown NYC to my hotel in uptown NYC with the aide of two Italians - an English teacher and her daughter! Finally made it then went out for a few beers with my room mate for the night and got chatted up by Kevin the stage hand in a real locals bar which we happened to come across. Made it out unscathed! Picked up my tour and so far have been to Niagra Falls walked across to Canada for a meal and a night at Hard Rock night club (nearly didn't get back into the US as the two Toms had forgotten their Ds2019's!) and am now in Chicago. Having ... read more

North America » United States » Massachusetts » Boston August 25th 2005

Having a great time here in Boston with my friend Kay who I met at camp. The weather has been glorious and so far we have been up the Prudential tower for some great views over the city, on a boat cruise, walked round Harvard and visited the museum of fine arts. For our last day we intend to walk the Freedom trail and hit the shops! Boston is a very easy city to get around, the people are friendly, it is very clean and there is even air conditioning on the subway! A bit different to London. Walked past Fenway Park on Tuesday night and managed to hear some of the Black Eyed Peas who were supporting the Rolling Stones concert. Sadly we were unable to get inside but I bet it was a great ... read more

Well, I have had a fab summer and have now been in the US for 10 weeks. I have finished working adventure camp and have just completed one week of family camp! This was much more relaxed and the international staff got a surprise pay cheque which was very welcome. It was a very strange week with only 6 families but I enjoyed it and we were finished by 9pm everyday. I thought that was it for work but I am now helping out with a ropes course tomorrow for cancer survivors. I couldn't say no. I have also decided to come back and work at Adventure Camp for the school program from January 2006! Very exciting. I don't really get paid but it will be a good opportunity and I can't wait to see New ... read more

Coming to the end of my two weeks with my second group of campers. Only one group left to go and then I have a week of family camp! Not exactly sure what that it is but sounds intriguing. Still having a fab time and loving being outdoors. Getting used to driving on the other side of the road and driving an automatic. Looking forward to having Saturday off. We are planning a big BBQ. Went and played mini golf or crazy golf as we call is last session break and also saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which I would recommend. Went on a mountain hike today. Beautiful scenery and a gorgeous day. We have had a few thunderstorms lately and had to evacuate from the yurts for a few hours the other night. A ... read more

North America » United States » Vermont July 3rd 2005

I have now completed my three weeks of staff training and am now a certified van driver! Since my last journal I have been climbing, mountain biking, country dancing, out for blueberry pancakes, shopping and spent my two days off in Vermont. It has been awesome! In Vermont I stayed in a house right by a lake and went swimming, kayaking and just chilled out. Just want I needed to recover from all my hard work! Now only a few hours left of freedom until the kids arrive. I have one group of 12 and am living with a group of 19. Oh forgot to say, yes I am still in the yurts! No nice cabin with electricity for me. Oh no! Will try and attach a photo next time and then you can all see ... read more
