From Qui Nhon I cycled through more hills to Hoi An where we spent a full day relaxing. Hoi An is a shopping heaven....pretty much every shop is a tailors where you can have absolutely anything you like tailor made to your measurements for pennies. Had to get something made so went to Yalys and had a skirt and top made. Definately the place to go if you are on a mad clothes shopping spree, you could actually go crazy....The town is small but filled with small cafes and restaurants making it perfect to chill out in before cycling again. From Hoi An it was a long cycle to Hue further north which included a 7 mile uphill ride through a mountain pass. I dont think i have been in so much pain or sworn ... read more

Sunday 26th March On Sunday Belinda, Tomoko and I tested out nearly every type of Japanese transport! We drove to Shizuoka station to catch the Shinkansen to Tokyo. From there we caught a local train, and then the monorail Haneda Airport. We flew to Okinawa Island (south of Japan - 2hrs 45 mins), got on a bus to pick up our cool Toyota rent-a-car! The hotel was beautiful and had lots of nice restaurants. The first night, we ate at a grill restaurant where you cook all your own meat. It was fantastic and delicious! The seafood salad, of course was all raw, so I just cooked it! Not the most sober we have ever been, we had a bit of trouble getting back to our room because we caught the elevator from a different wing. ... read more

Tokyo is incredible. We've been out drinking twice.. we stayed at an awesome hostel...but we have bad luck with good hostels.. they usualy only have room for one night! So we're staying elsewhere now at a more expensive place, but it is more comfortable. The first night in tokyo was awesome. We went to the hostels bar which was quite cheap. It was quite an international crowd in there and we met some good and bad people. There seemed to be a lot of wanker americans in there that would talk to you but not listen to what you actually had to say. We ended up getting pretty pissed and I met a complete wnaker of a frenchman. Now the french undeservedly get a hard time..but this guy was the reason they do. He was stereotypically ... read more

When we first reached Tokyo we didn't have anywhere to stay for one night, so we decided we would stay in a capsule hotel for one night before we moved to the hotel we'd already booked. We got lost looking for this capsule hotel, it didn't seem to be where it said it was on the map. We were slightly scared when this old guy with rotting teeth grabbed our arms and said, "hotel, hotel". We decided to follow this guy, for some unknown reason, but he showed us to the nicest hostel in Tokyo called "khaosan" and it was much cheaper than any capsule hotel at only 2500 yen a night. The common room was small, but cosy and it had free internet and a good choice of beer from the vending machine. They also ... read more

We're sitting here at the computer uploading a bunch of photos for you guys. We finally got some on a disc. We hope everyone likes them. It may be a bit before we can do it again considering the photo technology in Thailand and India. Fingers crossed that we can keep this up. So since shopping we checked out Victoria Harbour and went up to Victoria Peak on a little trolley thing. This was in our 1000 things to see before you die book so why not? It was pretty cool and we ended up hiking down a very steep hill to a little lake and yes, hiked it back up. 4.5 km later and our legs were burning. It was great to hike through all that beauty and we're getting in better shape. We also ... read more

We're leaving Koh Phangan today, having spent an incredible fortnight here... I swear I have more memories here than everywhere else combined so far and its all because of all the people we've met, its been crazy!!! Way too much to write now but I'll try to get the best bits.. First day we arrived, spoke to some English guys who were leaving about where to stay, and they basically recommended heading to Haad Rin beach (home of the in infamous full moon party) so we took a taxi for 100 baht each, and started searching for somewhere to stay...turned into an absolute mission! Everywhere we either thought was a hole, or it couldnt take 3 peiople in 1 room, or it was charging us way too much for what we were getting... Eventually an English ... read more

If I ever hear another American whose not working 12 hours a day complain about working long hours I'm going to strangle them until ... wait, I'm not a violent person, really! But seriously people here work freaking crazy hours. The L Salon boys work 9am-9pm and then have class at the Salon until around 11pm every night. The construction workers at the building in front of mine work from around 7am-10pm every night and then sleep in the building they're working in (like in little tents). Taxi drivers work all around the clock - they sleep in their taxis and if you wake them up it's their duty to take you. I told Cat the other day that I remember a long time ago here when the two of us went with Russell out to ... read more

The guys arrived... at about 12:30, we'd been waiting since about 10.00 sitting on the side of the koh san road with anticipation which disappeared pretty quickly as we waited. when they turned up i couldn't recognise them julians got a lovely beard on him by the way. turns out yannick told us the flight was a hour early but it doesn't matter as we're all have managed to get to bangkok so its ok. we spent 2 nights in bangkok 1st night showing the guys around, we sat on mats on the street drinking chang and catching up on each others news and stories. bed at about 7am before getting up at 1 to do a quick tour of bangkok because julains only here for 6 days. we booked tickets for a bus to ko ... read more
