The bus ride from Da Lat to Nha Trang was pleasant. It was 5 hours, there were 5 people on a relatively big bus, and the views were gorgeous. We would through mountains with waterfalls coming within inches of the road. I read my book (The Stand by Stephen King), listened to podcasts, and stared out the window. When we arrived in Nha Trang, it was nightfall, and I walked a few blocks to my hostel where I was enthusiastically greeted by the entire staff! Tintin is my favorite hostel staff member of all time. He spent the whole two days calling me "sista" and going out of his way to be helpful. I got settled into my four-bedroom door (under the bed lockers!!!) and hung out in the lobby for a bit. When Sylvan arrived ... read more

Saturday 21st November 2015 Literally a day of travel. A quick breakfast of pancakes (standard!), followed by a taxi ride to Da Nang station (about 45 mins away) to bored our 1pm train for the 9 hour journey to Nha Trang, arriving at 10pm. Given we'd be travelling all day, we opted for £18pp soft sleepers rather than seats giving us a bit more room to stretch our legs and the option to have a comfy(ish!) nap. Again, I napped for Britain spending most of our 9 hours in a quiet slumber aboard my top bunk waking up in time to see us approach Nha Trang by night. We arrived late and took a taxi straight to our Hotel, Duy Phuoc Hotel, which cost us £3.60 each per night. It was very modest, but was clean ... read more

Day 11 - Nha Trang Well.... It was an interesting overnight bus drive! It was late, but that was to be expected round here! The driver stopped after about 1 hours, which was a bit soon in a twelve hour journey. He was obviously hungry; I saw his full to the edges dinner table! But for us, it was too soon to want to use the loo. We just chilled off the bus for 30 mins. Then all back on, but with an extra hoard of Vietnamese people who all laid in the aisles. I think they got mates rates! They also brought with them the smell of cooking, which in a confined bus space was very sickly! On we went, it got to about 3am; an irate foreign lady stomped down the bus, walking over ... read more

After relaxing by the pool and beach for most of the morning in Quy Nhon, it was time to find our way to the train station. This would be the second leg of our one night stay over in Nah Trang. In true Macdowell form, I had us there 2 hours before check in. It gave us time to find lunch and train supplies. We booked a soft seat ticket this time as the trip to Nah Trang was suppose to be 6 hours. By this stage all of our transport times had blown out 1-2 hours. This trip was no exception. We arrived in Nah Trang just before midnight. Before we came to Nah Trang we were told by locals and travellers it wasn't their favourite place to stop and it full of Russians. Perhaps ... read more

Sarah: By the time we reached Nha Trang from Da Lat the heavy rain had stopped and despite it getting on for early evening it was still hot, hot, hot. We had been told our hostel was in walking distance from the bus and so got some walking directions and sweated our way through the streets. What should have been a five minute walk turned into ten after we missed the little alley that we were supposed to go down... Nevertheless, we made it to our hostel to be greeted by a gaggle of Vietnamese ladies who soon plied us with cold towels and water whilst introducing themselves and asking after us and our journey. We had picked this hostel after a couple of separate recommendations, both of them mentioning the loveliness of the ladies. They ... read more

Time to write the last blog of this little two weeks trip. Our next stop is in Saigon...kids will be for three days with their Mum....I'll be 36 hours in Saigon...little business...little shopping....and drinks with friends! And yes, it will be time to go home! Therefore, no blog about Saigon....sorry! So last entry of a trip I should never have done! Let say it was a pretty good one....if only for the amount of fresh spring roll I shared with Leslie. Sad to have to admit it...these two have seriously lost most of their Vietnamese skills. Don't ask me why, I never grasped much of this tough language....they say...if you don't practice, you lose it....sad to see how fast Tiffany has lost a language in which she was fully immersed for a good 9 years! After ... read more

Nha Thrang was in our eyes a very commercial Russian holiday destination. The huge resorts laying just in front of the beach made it more a European kind of destination, which gave us the impression to have left Vietnam. But we still enjoyed a lot chilling on the beautiful beach, eating at our local restaurant 'Veranda' and we made from this destination a relaxed two days stay.... read more
