Geo: 12.2453, 109.199DAY SEVEN (1/9/13) — Transfer to Nha Trang Patrick and I were both fans of the television show in the late 80s starring Dana Delaney called "China Beach"; it was set at an evacuation hospital near Danang during the Vietnam War and focused on non-war stories, including soldiers who headed to the Vietnam beaches along the South China Sea for R&R. I'm told the Vietnamese now refer to the body of water as the "East Sea". The Chinese called it the South Sea. And the Philippines call it the West Philippine Sea. I think it has an identity crisis. Nha Trang (pronounced Nya Trang – as in rang) is one such beach. It is near the naval base and airport that played a critical role in the war: Cam Ranh. But I am getting ... read more

Our next stop is Phuket, Thailand! And also this is where I made a slight booboo in our itinerary… I accidently forgot to book our hostel for the night we arrive! WHOOPS. We had to walk the streets of Patong Beach, Phuket with all of our shit through the throngs of party and beach goers, not to mention all the Thai people advertising ping pong shows. After we found a place to through our backpacks I headed straight for the beach even though it was already dark outside. What surprised me most about Patong is the fact that many parents find it acceptable to bring their kids out on Bangla road. That is THE main party street filled with half naked girls, ping pong shows and crowds of drunk people. The night life here puts Hanoi ... read more

After being ushered from possibly the worst overnight bus journey of our lives at 5am our first point of call was to find somewhere to stay, have a quick bite to eat and get a few hours shut-eye before getting up to explore Nha Trang. As a few of the other guys we have been travelling with had left Hoi An a few days before us, we had a good idea of the area we wanted to stay in and had soon secured a nice guesthouse with balcony for $9 a night. When we finally got up, we headed down to the beach for a while before walking around the area and checking out what there was to see and do. For as long as I can remember and after doing a few previous 'instructed fun ... read more

Saturday 24th November Arrived in Nha Trang at 7am. The booze cruise which John give us heads up on was booked for 8.30, didn't think we were going to make it because we left Ho Chi Minh so late. Got off the bus, had an ok sleep apart from the driver beeping the horn constantly and the rubble roads were so load to drive across. Jumped in a taxi even though it says its like 10 minutes walk, we didn't really have time to spare. Made sure it was on the meter, got quoted 100k. No chance, come to 35k on the meter. Checked in and at the hostel, staying at url=http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g293928-d1384324-Reviews-Son_and_Daughter_Guesthouse-Nha_Trang_Khanh_Hoa_Province.htmlSons and Daughters Guesthouse after some random guy in Sihanoukville recommended it. Ok well I had written a really long blog for today and just as I was about to press save the computer turned of!! So annoying! But basically to cut it short as I cant write it allll again, we got our second sleeper train last night which was an experience ... rather than having four people in a cabin with a nice soft matress and pillow, we had sĩ with a rock hard slab of wood :/ and as there was three people on top ò each other like triple bunk beds you had no room to even sit up so it was uncomfortable to say the least. Saw some amazing views in the morning though, like a tiny vietnamese lady riding on a humungous water buffalo! Got á cab from the station to a ... read more

Well I can safely say the past 4 days have been the most fun/crazy/memorable/tiring days of our trip yet! Can't keep track of time or days at all here and the computer has no date on it so its not much help, but I think it would have been Monday when we went to a place called Thap Ba Mud Baths. It was a really nice day out and we hadn't been out the night before so we were feeling fresh as daisys which was nice. When we got there we had to have a communal mineral shower which was more like a jet wash to make sure we were clean enough to get into the mud.... :S bit strange but we got in and had a quick clean. Sean was still suffering from his sun ... read more

Had such a crazy night last night!! I had got chatting to a guy in the morning who told me the best places to go for a good night out and so last night we went to a bar called oasis and were just sitting chatting when all of a sudden about 20 people were with us so we got loads of free shots with them and girls were getting free dacquiris all night long so I was just drinking those plus a few cheap buckets and we danced the night away with all of them until 3 or 4. Met loads of cool people and will hopefully bump into them again along our travels! Woke up thismorning feeling pretty disgusting but we had already arranged to go to Vin Pearl Island which is a waterpark/theme ... read more

Well today has been the first relaxing hot beach day so actually felt like I was on holiday today for the first time rather than in some strange other world! haha. Also there are a lot more tourists here as its a beach resort and the streets arent so wild or smelly which is nice. We got up early and got some breakfast at a local place round the corner and then headed out to find a cheap hostel to stay in for the rest of our time in Nha Trang. A man on a scooter stopped us on our hunt and told us about a tour he does with tourists up around the countryside and showed us a book of all of the people he has taken and the comments they have written. Nha Trang wasn't originally a city we planned to stop in on our trip through Vietnam. However, after loving the beaches we had seen so far, we decided to add it to our itinerary. We had taken another uncomfortable overnight bus from Hoi An which arrived at about 7:00am. Once again we were dropped off in the middle of the backpacker/hotel area. Adjusting to the bus pick up and drop off convenience in Vietnam has been really pleasant after China. Since it was so early, many hotels appeared closed and it took us a while to find a place to stay. When we had checked in to Mai Huy for a couple nights, we went to find some coffee. Right across the street from our hotel was a wonderful lady who served us large strong coffees ... read more

Hello again! So today was our first experience of the sleeper train! We woke up thismorning feeling a bit worse for wear (an extreme understatement). Last night we went to our local 30p a pint roadside bar where u sit on childrens plastic furniture with all the other backpackers and get as drunk as possible which was fun. Met some cool people and ended up playing drinking games with them untill stupid o clock. Niether of us remember going back to our hostle or anything much to be honest but we woke up at 8 to go and catch our train. Walked down to the agency where we got our ticket but turned out the 10am train was fully booked so we had a few hours to kill. They offered for us to go and sleep ... read more
