Nha Trang By the time we got off the sleeper bus in Nha Trang Jono was crook, we are not too sure what caused it as he was eating the same food as Cia and I except for one meal he ate when we stopped for a break on the sleeper bus trip! I found the sleeper bus sweet as, we had heard so many bad stories about them but apparentely we had a mint bus according to the others. We arrived at 6am and found accommodation up an alley across the road from the beach, Cia shared a room with us again (we shared in Hoi An as well). Nha Trang is well known for its beaches although I rekon there are better in NZ and Aus but for peeps who dont have that novelty ... read more

From Da Lat, we took a very scenic route to Nha Trang. Nha Trang is the destination for beach-goers in Vietnam so we looked forward to beach-bumming around for a few days. The first day was sweltering so we hit the beach and did nothing for hours but lie on our sun beds. The waves were really strong and Gabrielle got knocked down so many times. She lost a wooden bracelet as well as getting a face of sand. Unfortunately, the next day was raining (something we became very used to as we travelled up Vietnam). So, we continued our pampering mission by going to the mud-baths and get our skin silky smooth. We had a mud-bath together and felt like little piggies rolling in the mud. The mud was so thick that if you laid ... read more

At 10 am sharp, Eddie and brother were waiting with their bikes. It took about 10 minutes to get to the cable car and then we paid for the tickets to the cable car and amusement park (320,000 each) and took our 15-minute ride across the ocean. After storing our stuff in the lockers, we started to wander around. Turns out that the rides had schedules you had to look at to see when they were open. They would only be open for an hour and then would close for one or two hours. This was true for all the rides but one: the slide. That was always open. They had a lazy river that encircled all of the water attractions and a white sand beach next to it. We decided to go ahead and try ... read more

Today we had lunch at the Green Apple, a restaurant situated between the two buildings of Son & Daughter and owned by rival Backpackers House. They also have a bar, the Red Apple, and that gets pretty darn busy at night. We started walking to Ponagar, Buddhist temples in the city, when "Eddie Murphy" stopped by to say hello. He offered to take us somewhere on his bike (as is very common) and we ended up going with him for 50,000 for the two of us. I was on his brother's bike and Ronald went on the back of Eddie's. The guy actually sort of looked like Eddie Murphy...I wonder who sired him with that name. Anyways, we paid 15,000 to get in and Eddie & brother were going to wait for us and then take ... read more

Our overnight bus picked us up and we got two beds at the very back and put our bags behind us. The bus stopped a few times at gas stations, but I'm glad I wasn't hungry because the options were terrible! Pretty much the only thing offered were either snacks like cookies or a baguette with some sort of mystery meat. Ronald ate one and nothing happened, so they're safe, but gross...We didn't get out at any of the other stops and the ride was pretty uneventful except for the rash I got from the blanket. That will be the last time I wear something other than long pants on a bus in Asia. No more bare legs for me. We got in at 6 am about and walked to Backpackers House, but it was $7 ... read more

David here... We set off from Dalat and got on the local bus to Nha Trang with no problems at all. The bus journey was a typical one for Asia. The video screen was down and we had to put up with a DVD of a live Vietnamese show, which seemed a bit like our Royal Variety performance, with singing, comedy and novelty acts (no one needs to play the mouth organ with their nose while eating a banana). The road conditions at times were extremely bad, with the road disappearing completely and the coach having to slog through wet mud for a while. At one point we didn't think we were going to make it, but we should have more faith in the local Vietnamese bus service as we arrived in Nha Trang early in ... read more
