We came here after Ko Tao and managed to get ourselves some good accomodation and cheap so glad we got here early. However the whole week has been a blur, Andy got food poisoning the first night we arrived which was not very nice. But it only lasted a day or two and he felt beter in time to meet up with everyone that we met in vang vieng. Since then its all been a bit hazy as they are bad influences to say the least!! Alot of alcohol has been consumed and after our 3 week break (in an attempt to get healthy again!) Our bodies do not seem happy about it. Saturday was the full moon, it was crazy 20,000 people partying on a beach til sunset!!! Really is a recipe for disaster. It ... read more

22.08.05 Our time in Thailand is nearly over and we have made our way down to the island of Ko Samui to spend some time relaxing on the beach before venturing into Cambodia. Here is a quick update on what we've been up to... We really enjoyed our time in Chang Mai, we learnt how to cook authentic Thai food (you can check out the pictures to prove it on http://www.cookinthai.com/. Ours are at the end of the 13.08.05) We also had a traditional Thai massage (one word - ouch!) and went on a 3 day trek into the jungle where we stayed at hill-tribe village settlements and bamboo rafted down the river. After all that exertion we took the easy route, by plane, to the island of Koh Pha Ngan and very luckily managed to ... read more

Any excuse for a party. It's a fair accusation, and a full moon is a fairly lame excuse. It's just nature, it happens 13 times a year, and in most parts of the world, without lycanthropy, passes off without note. Not on Koh Pha Ngan, the next island on from Koh Samui, the scene of one of the largest beach parties in the world, every single month, the other locations for such revelry are Ios in Greece, and somewhere in Goa, India. I met people at this party that had been to all three - this is the original and biggest. The reputation of the full moon party is for excess, dancing and drugs. To be honest drugs would have been easy to get hold of, many of the cafés will “serve” special requests, but on ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Chumphon August 21st 2005

Well, I can hardly say it's the end of the road... I still have a good 20 hours of travel ahead of me. I'm stuck in Chumphon for another hour before jumping on the bus to Bangkok. I say stuck, because there is NOTHING to do in Chumphon (except eat- the night market is surprisingly good!) I even had to add it to the 'Places' list in Travelblog! Seems I'm the first who bothered reporting anything from here! :P Left Koh Tao today along with every last trace of tropical paradise I will be encountering for a while! From here it's non-stop to London, pretty much, with a few hours to wander around in a daze on Khao San Rd tomorrow morning. Maybe I'll go find a park to sleep in for a while. It's either ... read more

After landing in Bangkok and meeting up with Kym (YAY!) we headed down for a night on Ko Samui and then to Ko Pha Ngan for the purpose of this little island getaway.. Full Moon Party!.. After a night in a Ko Samui bungulow under the flightpath of all planes heading to the island (the palm trees by the pool shook as planes flew overhead about every hour - on the half and quarter hour if we were lucky!) we were ready for a big night out fuelling ourselves with homemade vanilla and redskin vodkas from the balcony of our tree house villa! Full moon party attracts about 15-20,000 people (largely the israeli, italian and french community!- and they all know how to party!) is set on Had Rin, a stretch of the southern coast and ... read more

Its no surprise to me that on my last day in Thailand after an epic final 3 weeks I'm hungover again and only now completing this bloggy. I therefore apologise in advance for any ravings and poor blogginess reporting as I am not together at all. Also note that theres no spell check on this P.C so you will see the extent of my literacy. It was never my intention to go out last night as this place (Koh San whatisname) sucks normally, but it was actually a really funny night. Drank with some random funny people from all corners of the globe. I should be harder on myself. I think its over 2 months since my last entry ... shame shame shame. It started with constant problems in getting pictures downloaded and as I know ... read more

Again I apologize for not being better about keeping people up to date on our travels. There has just been so much to do and see since we have gotten to Thailand. Mark and I got into Thailand on August 4 and went to Kho San Road which is the main tourist/backpacker area in Bangkok. People here are moving a million miles a minute nonstop. It was quite a culture shock for both of us. But we really enjoyed being there and seeing everything, but once we went outside of the tourist/backpacker area, we were shocked to see what Bangkok is really like. There is a lot of garbage on the street and the poverty very noticeable. But the people are incredibly nice and very hospitable. After about 4 days in Bangkok, we caught a cheap ... read more

So in the course of the 3 days I have done the following : Crashed a scooter BEFORE! renting it and moved from a nice jungle style hut to a beach front bungalow which cost me 4.50 bucks a night and got open water warm 72 degrees they say even at night.Ive kinda clicked up with my diving team and hang out at night and drink 3 brits and an ausie who are all cool.Tonight we're getting together with the instructors and have a few beers and watch the video the taped while us being underwater. Its cost like 30 bucks but I think its worth it considering the event.I asked the guy whats he cutting on and he said premier I told him about FCPvs Premo and seemed kinda impressed.Ill get the raw dv footage so ... read more

Year 2004, December the 26th - 7.30am - the sea drew back and away from the shore on the tropical island paradise of Phuket, bewildered tourists looked on at the phenomena little realising that deep in the Andaman sea an earthquake had dropped the sea floor. At speeds of 500 miles an hour a 40 foot wave headed out from the centre point. The effects were felt all around the Indian Ocean and caused total devastation in parts of Sri Lanka and Indonesia. In Thailand the most prosperous and touristic coast was hit. In all several thousand tourists lost their lives, and hundreds of thousands of people local to the regions lost theirs. Phuket was where the most tourists were affected or killed - one of the Bloggers - Anna was there One week on from ... read more

We've just had a great holiday from our holiday in Phuket, Thailand. We decided that we needed some sun and relaxation at the end of our travels, and Phuket certainly provided that. We stayed at Kata Beach, which is south of the notorious Patong Beach (the main tourist and party area) on Phuket, in a lovely hotel called the Peach Hill Hotel (incase you want to go!) which had 3 pools, two with swim-up bars, and a view of the sea - bliss! We had a couple of very lazy days to start with - swimming in the pool, lunching at the pool bar, reading our books by the pool... it was too hot and humid to do much else. Mark had also been travelling north to Phuket and decided to try out the hotel we ... read more
