hello! Here are our pics from sukhothai ........ We had an amazing time here, the guest house was gorgeous and only a short cycle along the river to the town. We spent many hours cycling around the town trying not to get run over by crazy thai drivers! The main attraction here was the old city which contains loads of temples similar to Ayuthaya but are meant to be more significant in thai history and are more aesthetically pleasing. The grounds of the old city were really beautiful and we hired bikes to explore every nook and cranny! It was so relaxing cycling around taking in the awesome surroundings. After walking through the town centre and across the bridge we hopped on a bus which took us 14kms away to the site of the Old City of Sukhothai. It's a Unesco listed World Heritage site which is the vast ruins of the original capital city of Thailand and an ancient Kingdom dating back to the 12th Century. The setting is huge, park-like, well maintained and best explored by bicycle. After choosing our rental bikes we set off into the beautiful park and spent the day riding down shaded paths and beside lakes and moats, and stopped to wander through the crumbling temples that we came across. Currently in Bangkok right now but spent a few days in Phitsanulok, mainly for a day trip to this great little place called Sukothai. Prepare yourself, there are ruins and Buddhas to come... shocker, I know... ;) Bit of background, this site was built and during the 13th century and was the main city for about 150 years. What is left from nearly 100 sites ranged from a few stones on the ground to some fairly spectacular sites. Much of what is visible and what are the premier sites have had some restoration but only to what it would have been at that time. Some of the sites are within what was the city wall, easily navigatable on foot, but there are roughly 70 sites outside the walls in a 5km radius, so I rented a ... read more

After a 6 and a quarter hour coach journey and 10 hours without food we arrived in Sukhothai and headed straight to the local 7-11 for supplies! The guesthouse is the best yet with our own bungalow and free bicycle. The toilet was broken however which wasn't great considering Elin's current condition so we decided to stay around the lobby and ate pad thai in the guesthouse restaurant. ... read more
