Well, it’s Monday, I’ve been teaching all day yet still something seems to be not quite right with that. Oh yes, it’s Boxing Day and I’ve been at work for the first time in my life! My Christmas started at school last Thursday afternoon, with what was supposed to be a Christmas concert but held no resemblance to the festive season at all. Plus, virtually all the music was Thai, which is not only impossible to understand but isn’t really very musical either! Our school band was quite impressive considering they are all teenagers but there were two supposedly well-known bands who came to ‘entertain’ us and I was certainly anything but entertained. Friday was better, all lessons were cancelled and we spent the first two hours having our Christmas show. The school priest came and ... read more

Found a nice local place to eat, nice and simple, only thing on the menu Korean BBQ ! Merry Christmas - bright sunny, hot and not a sign of tinsel or frost! Christmas morning spent by the sea. Lee and Rick caught several small fish - neither are quite sure what they caught but they had large teeth. Rick managed to catch many rocks again today! Dawn had a nature stroll with 2 local dogs (one with a broken leg in plaster and halo (see picture) and managed to flush out a few reptiles) later in the day we had a very close encounter with a very large green snake (too close for comfort - and not sure quite what it was) Sea beautiful, but very choppy bit worried about crossing over to mainland tomorrow if ... read more

Koh Chang is a small island on the way to the border of Cambodia. We felt like it was time for a change of pace, so we decided to head to this island to relax for a few days and soak up some sun. After braving rush hour in Bangkok, we got a bus to Trat and then a ferry over to the island. Once we arrived, we took a songthaew (a truck with two rows of seating in the back) to Lonely beach but found that it wasn't very lonely at all, being fairly jammed with backpackers and tourists. We stayed in a bungalow on the beach for a few days, just enjoying sunbathing, reading our books and swimming. One day, we hired out a Kayak to explore some of the nearby islands. Paddle power ... read more

Morning All, Well it is for me - it's 9am sunday morning here and it's unfortunately the last day of my (1 week) and Lucy's (2 week) holiday for Thai New Year, or Songkran to give it it's proper name. No doubt you've all seen the news about the Bangkok riots and violence last week and I'm pleased to say that we've only seen it from the perspective of BBC news the same as you have apart from yesterday when out of curiosity we went to have a wander through the protest. It was all very safe and very interesting - they were all in good spirits but that might change later in the week. There will be another flashpoint in the next couple of days when the army tries to move them again and obviously ... read more

Hi Folks, it's Lise here for a change! Tonight is our final night that we will sleep in a Thai bed. Tom is already sleeping and I'm very alive and kicking (it's midnight here now)! Today was a sucky day for me...migrain attack! Tom went walking trough Koh Sichang while I was sleeping and in the end we went to a very nice restaurant called "Pan's and David's". The food was alright but the when you come here you just have to taste the home made icecream! It was DELICIOUS! Last night we also made e new friend, GERRY the gecko! Actually I made a new friend, Tom was asleep and I was very awake. After 3 hours of sitting on the wall in front of me he went of with 2 gecko chicks. We miss ... read more

The power of wi-fi Hello folks! As we reported yesterday, we're on Ko Sichang (or Koh Sichang, or Koh Si Chang, or Ko Si Chang) now. We came from Ko Samet Ko Samet was really pretty. We stayed at the Ao Phai Huts. A good place to stay, not too expensive. But not all the bungalows are equally clean or well maintained. Our airco started having a life of it's own after a short while, switching on and off and beeping all the time. We actually had to cut the electricity to the machine because it just wouldn't stop. Luckily we also had a fan in our hut, otherwise we'd have to switch bungalows. We didn't pay for the airco by the way! The lady showed us our hut, noticed that there was a fan and ... read more

Hello all! We know it's been a while. But don't worry we're still alive! We just haven't had any chance to get on the net lately. Very short update : We just came from Ko Samet, which is above Ko Chang. After Cliff Cottage we stayet at the Chai Chet resort on Koh Chang, which was less nice, but softer beds. Then we moved on to Ko Samet where we stayed for 2 nights. And so now we're on Koh Sichang. We'll probably stay here for the time we have left, taking it easy. In Cliff Cottage we uploaded a numbre of videos that you can watch, but now we don't have the time to list the new ones here (there's a lot of them, during the day!) So just go to this site : http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=darkyt&search_type=&aq=f ... read more

On the night before we left to go to Ko Chang, we could hear a storm outside that was quite literally rocking our beach hut. This lasted all night, and we could still hear the wind and sea lashing against one another the following morning. This made me slightly uneasy about getting two boats! Once on the sea, it was really choppy, but we weren't shipwrecked and made it there, which was a relief! As soon as we arrived, (after getting on the back of a truck, then a boat, then a coach, then a ferry and then another truck) me and Robbie got a really good feeling about the place. It was really beautiful, with coconut trees and greenery all around in the hills, as well as beaches, it was like some sort of jungle ... read more

Hello Everyone Just thought I'd do you a last update before I leave Asia behind and head off to Australia! After my last blog I left Phnom Pehn and headed for a week of relaxation on the beaches in Sihnanoukville on the Southern tip of Cambodia. I was knackered after all that sight seeing. When I first got to Sihnanoukville I was still travelling alone and I found the first day quite tough as I got into a bit of a situation on the beach with some of the kids and a couple of women that work on there. As soon as I got on the beach they all surrounded me asking me to buy bracelets, massages, headbands and all sorts of other crap that I wasn't intrested in and before I knew it I was ... read more

I made it over to Ko Si Chang (a little island off of Sri Racha) all in one piece yesterday, though I had my doubts at first. The ferryboat seemed to be packed just about to capacity. I asked to sit on the deck with a ragtag group that looked like refugees, rather than in the available seats on the bottom level. You know how passenger ferryboats in developing countries are always sinking and all. I’m a pretty good swimmer, but I might not get a chance at it if I’m trapped below decks, so I wanted to give myself a fair shot. It’s the same reason I prefer an aisle seat when flying—at least if we go down I have less distance to cover to the emergency exit. Morbid or safety-conscious? . . . you ... read more
