Hello Everyone, After a long and smelly flight from Sydney (we sat next to the toilets where some poor guy was throwing up for 8 hours! )we arrived in Thailand to a warm and humid Bangkok. We took the first available local bus from the airport and got dropped off just outside our hostel, excellent service and much cheaper then a taxi. We stayed one night in Bangkok, at Lub'd, we spent the time sorting out Steve's visa for Vietnam. I was happy to find out that I don't need a visa for Vietnam, just one of those perks you get for being Swedish. We didn't want to hang around in Bangkok for too long so we decided to leave Steve's passport at the Vietnamese embassy and to pick it up again just before our flight ... read more

I had to go back to Phenm Penh for one more night before I was able to book a direct bus and ferry ticket to Koh Chang, which is a large island off the Cambodia/Thailand southern border. Somewhat undeveloped compared to its sister islands in furhter south Thailand, its quickly catching up. Luckily I got a heads up from a former traveling companion that Lonely Beach was a nicely isolated hiding spot from the more franctic and louder main beaches. It also proved to be very economic ... $9 for a fan bungalow with its own bathroom. Just a isolating fan, no AC, but when you're right off the beach I prefer to leave the windows open and make due with the sea breeze and the sounds of waves. The air cons in SE Asia really ... read more

Get ready for some video! Hi from us to all the people at home, and the ones following this blog. Unfortunately Lise has a migraine attack right now, so I took the opportunity to upload some videos. The wifi connection here is out, but that's ok since I have a wired connection and videos upload faster that way. And I'm sitting in the restaurant / lounge area, waiting for my chicken salad to arrive! I'll start off with a video from the past. The taxi ride from Poipet to Siem Reap. The video runs for about10 minutes, so not too long! Here you go : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Coi5EfdXhPc And now for some more current things, our arrival at the Cliff Cottage on Ko Chang. I've managed to upload all 3 videos I've made so far, all last night, ... read more

Leaving Battambang This time the alarm went off at 8:30, we had a good sleep. This might have been because the bed was a little softer than all the previous ones we slept in. Thai and Cambodian people seem to like really, really hard beds. We actually got down to the lobby to check out of the Royal Hotel at little after 10 am I think. I went to a store to get us some drinks, but they didn't have anything I liked (not even cold water) so I bought Lise a few cold drinks for the taxi ride. Just before we had asked for a taxi, and it would be there in 10 minutes. The taxidriver was very friendly, no scams this time, not one! So we hit the road from Battambang to Pailin and ... read more

Blog 13 - Koh Chang and the Elephants! After the craziness of Bangkok we only had a few days left on our Thai visa so decided to head to the island of Koh Chang before facing the land border crossing into Cambodia. After a 4 hour bus ride and a half hour ferry journey we arrived on the island of Koh Chang, there is so many different places to stay on this mountainous island and nearly all the beaches to stay have a wide selection of accommodation to chose from. We decided to stay on white sands beach as we were only going to be here for a couple of days. Both of us were quite taken back by how developed parts of Koh Chang were and how well integrated with rainforest jungle and hills the ... read more

After enjoying the good food of Phnom Penh and not doing a whole lot else for the best part of a week we managed to drag ourselves away heading for Thailand and the island of Ko Chang. After a relatively straightforward bus ride via Koh Kong where we changed buses to the border, crossing the border, getting a minibus then having to change again (why so many changes?!) we arrived in Trat where we'd planned to spend the night instead of getting to Ko Chang late in the day. While we were in Phnom Penh we'd taken advantage of the Thai 'special offer' for a free 60 day tourist visa. This saved us quite a bit of money as the visas were $35 each and we were both feeling quite pleased with ourselves. We had to ... read more

We spent a lovely few days lying by the pool and at the beach; on our first trip to white sand beach, when we were eating lunch, mum got bitten by a very hairy and mean looking spider, considering that’s how Peter Parker became Spiderman I think mum may now be SpiderNan!!!! As we hadn’t seen much of the island we booked ourselves onto an unknown Koh Chang day trip, it started off with a trip to a Mahout village and an hour on an elephant. Mum was quite hesitant to start with but took to it pretty quickly, I however was not so comfortable and was kind of glad when we got off! Tel and Peter both had a go at being mahouts and sitting on the elephants neck, peter looked very at home Mahout ... read more

Sa wat dii ka! (hello) from Thailand! We Hope all is well with everyone back home, its great to hear from you all (as you slowly, one by one creep out from the wood work! - you know who you are!) We couldn't be happier as we explore and relax in Thailand, so here goes with this edition of 'The Adventures of Ruth & Ami!' We arrived in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday 10th April 2009 fairly late at night, so didn't want to spend ages looking for a room, which meant settling for a rather dingy number!!!! moving on the following morning to a much better place, we settled in for the weekend intending to get our Vietnam visas sorted at the embassy on the Monday morning.....this is where our plan fell to pieces!!! So we ... read more
